working out for Disney

I wound up working out yesterday after work. I did 30 min of kettlebells with the step bench and twist plate. I was absolutely drenched! I followed up with 30 minutes on the bike. Who knows what I'm going to do today. Not sure what I'm going to do today, but it'll be something.

I've been in an ice cream place of late. I've been getting the light lactose free stuff, but trying to jazz it up. Pomegranate and Chinese Five Spice have been really good so far. I was skeptical about the spice, but we were watching Kids' Baking Championship last night and it was the featured dessert ingredient. Duff mentioned it being delicious in ice cream and I have a jar on hand, so I tried it. This may wind up being like when I went through my cardamom phase!

We're also hoping the half bath can get finished this week. Contractor can't make it today, so we're now a little bit behind, but it's ready for tile. Paint went in yesterday and the light fixture went back up (reusing what was already in there...I kind of like it). I initially wanted that dark gray wall to have wallpaper, but we decided to go with a patterned tile, so painted accent seemed like the better plan.

I have that same light fixture in my bathroom.

I got in some exercise yesterday, but it wasn't quite what I'd plan since I was in a bit of a time crunch. Part was because I finally sat down and booked lodging for summer travel. I initially was planning to book some of it while on the go, but as I started seeing limited availability in smaller towns and cities and started thinking about all of the dead zones with no cell service we'd be driving through, I pushed through and booked everything! After that, I biked for 30 minutes...got in 10+ miles and did light arms with the set of 5lb weights...bicep curls, chest press, and tricep press. I didn't have enough time to do the leg workout I wanted and it's too strenuous to do later, so I grabbed the set of 8lb weights, and did three sets of tricep press, shoulder press, and standing row. Splashed on some perfume, threw on a nice top and some boots with my black workout pants and headed up to the school for the older one's recital. When we got back home, I threw some chicken in to cook and then did some lighter biking for 15 minutes. I was hoping to hit 15 miles total, but I was just not in the mood after coming down from the earlier workout. So, almost 14 miles.

On an encouraging note, my younger one's coach and team appear to be coming together on masking in the dugout. The girls all wanted to know why she wasn't there on Sunday and the coach asked what he could do to make her comfortable to play. These kids have a really tight bond and they know they're better with her than without, so it sounds like everyone is going to mask up in the dugout.

Oh that's great that they are so close that they are willing to do what they need to do to have her be part of the team. That's so nice!

Yeah, the Netherlands started in the 2nd week of January with vaccination and they are still on healthcare workers or residents of care homes. We aren't eligible until at least April, probably later than that. Possibly not until September.

They did really well handling the first wave here. It didn't get bad at all. Then as soon as they lifted the restrictions, cases increased and then they didn't do anything in response for several months, so now we're in lockdown and have a curfew. What's ridiculous is that with the curfew, I'm allowed to work, but my husband isn't allowed to pick me up from work because that's after the curfew. They said people will have to take public transportation. 2 huge problems with that: number one, it's counter productive. The point is to reduce the number of people who have contact with each other because it's the evening hours that people go to a friend's house etc. So if my husband picks me up, I have no contact with people outside my work or household. If I have to take public transportation, there are all the people in the bus or train...yes, we're masked and distanced, but it's more people than I would come in contact with if my husband picked me up. Number 2, there is no public transportation that late. I get off work at 11pm, sometimes 11:15 or 11:30 if it's busy. The only bus stop is about a kilometer walking from my work, and the last bus leaves that stop at something like 10:45....before I get off work. And even if I got out of work early to catch that bus, it goes to the central station in my town and there is no bus from the station to my house anymore. The last bus that goes anywhere near my house goes by there at 10:50, also before I get off work. So I'd have to walk about an hour from the station to my house at midnight. Or I could ride my bike, but same thing....I'd still have to ride my bike home at midnight. Or, well probably more like 11:30 pm, but still. So I CAN'T take public transportation, but my husband isn't allowed to pick me up. So I can't work in the evening. My husband is working from home and said he could take me during the day. So I worked it out with my employer that I work the 1-5 shift instead of the 7-11 shift. And now my husband says "Oh....I have meetings. I can pick you up, but I won't be able to take you there." There is no bus at all from my house normally. But if I ride my bike to the station to catch the bus, my bike is there and not at home and I have no way to get there the next day unless my husband picks me up and drops me off at the station and then I ride my bike. Last time I left my bike parked at the station I came back to flat tires, so I don't want to leave my bike there. So now I had to reserve a spot on a taxi bus to the station for the days that I'm working. I have to leave my house at 10:45 to get there on time to start work at 1pm! And all because the government couldn't be bothered to do anything until cases were way out of hand already. Had they acted sooner, we wouldn't need the stupid curfew and we'd probably have been out of lockdown by now. They totally botched it.

There's also a huge thing with the government right now because it was found that the Dutch version of the IRS was discriminating against foreigners and defrauded them out of millions of Euros and now they have to pay all of them back, plus coming up with money to keep the economy going with all the restaurants and bars, museums, movie theaters, concert venues, stores, and everything else in lockdown where businesses can't make money. Everything is shut down, so businesses are going under and need financial support, but the government has to pay 30,000 euros to each of the families they defrauded. It's a mess.

That's absolutely ridiculous that your husband can't even pick you up from work late. I would feel very uncomfortable taking mass transit right now. At least if you are in an airplane, there is someone making sure you're mask compliant. But a bus or a train--you're on your own. I definitely would not be comfortable riding a bike alone at midnight. And leaving your house at 10:45 AM to start work is nuts.

When will your curfew/lockdown end?

I heard from a few who use NJT that they have been enforcing masks on public transportation. That being said public transportation is a pass for me as well for now

That sounds like a really good combo. I bet it would taste good on chocolate ice cream, too--kind of a riff on Mexican chocolate. I have heard lao gan ma/ chile crisp is good on vanilla ice cream, too. I keep meaning to try it, but I try not to keep ice cream around the house.

I like that grey accent wall. :)

That's good that mask wearing is being enforced. I think we're one of the states that's pretty reasonable and sane about masking up.

Although, I follow the NJ Department of Health on FB and under one of the posts about vaccines, someone said the vaccines were dangerous because they had mRNA and AI in them. Artificial intelligence! In the vaccines! Where is this malarkey coming from? I asked him what was so dangerous about mRNA. I got no response, which tells me he was just parroting what he had heard without questioning or understanding it.

JM (unsolicited)O, but I think you minimize just how much you work out. What you've typed is actually a decent workout for anybody, really. Maybe it wasn't quite what you had planned, but that is not a workout to sneeze at.

Hello-

I did a full body workout this AM. I used my kettlebells, my gliding discs, my resistant loop and my pull up tower. It was a challenge. 😅

I've started doing 10-15 minutes of yoga in the afternoons, instead of making a cup of coffee. I feel energized when I am done. I'm still not ready to go back to yoga for my main form of exercise, maybe in the Spring. I really burned myself out on it.

I'm getting ready to start a loaf of sourdough here. My son asked for some more. I told him as long as he can wait until Friday AM. :hilarious:

I have the answer to the malarkey! Hubs is watching PBS News Hour and they were just interviewing a science/doctor person (I'm not watching, just overhearing) and she said that there are nanoproteins in the vaccine and that some people, on hearing that, confuse it with nanotechnology and believe that the government will track them if they get the vaccine

I think her point was that being too technical was not necessarily a good thing. 😊

How the heck does one confuse nanoproteins and nanotechnology? You missed the tracking thing. It's Bill Gates who is putting microchips in the vaccine so he can track us:rolleyes: Q said it so it must be true:cautious:

Well, for now, Feb 9th is when the lockdown ends and the curfew is supposed to be in effect until the lockdown ends. But, first, the lockdown was supposed to end January 19th or something like that....they extended it because cases weren't decreasing fast enough. But that was before the UK variant got here, which spreads faster. I don't see cases decreasing much...when they finally decided to do a lockdown, cases were around 10,000 per day I think? That was back in December. More than a month later, we're down to about 6,000 per day. So not a huge improvement and they want to get it down to where each case only infects less than one other person. But they were saying for that to happen, we have to get down to only a couple hundred cases per day or something? I doubt we'll be there on Feb. 9th. We're behind on the vaccine schedule. Astra Zeneca can't deliver the promised vaccine that the Netherlands ordered. So we can't vaccinate on a large scale like they thought we could. Without being able to vaccinate, the only way to keep numbers down is to stay in lockdown with a curfew for a longer period of time.

But yeah, the public transportation thing is counter-productive. If your aim is for people to reduce the number of people with whom they have contact, then you WANT them to be picked up from work by someone in their household rather than to take public transportation where they will come into contact with more people. How can they miss that logic??

It might. I'm the weirdo who doesn't like chocolate ice cream 🤣, but I could see the flavors going nicely. I hadn't been keeping it around, but I'm trying to find some balance with my sweet cravings. Our local market stocks a lactose free and sugar free vanilla, so I feel less guilty with it and don't experience the stomach issues I sometimes do with the regular stuff.

Thanks! I have more pics to share today.

It's astonishing how people so willingly latch on to bad information and then try and spread it like wildfire. I'm sure it's from many of the same sources that are helping spread various conspiracy theories...which should tell any rational person just how inaccurate their info really is.

I really hope they all follow through this weekend. These girls are close + my younger one really is an asset to the team, so from both a friendship standpoint and a wanting to have a good player out there standpoint...it would be nice for everyone to mask up.

I think some is that I just wanted to start this new year doing a variety of workouts and I'm not varying it up the way I'd hoped. At the end of the day, I'm trying to remind myself that getting in whatever works for the day is still significantly better than doing nothing.

Good morning! Wednesday is typically one of our super crazy days, so I'm just pushing myself to get in what I can on that day. Both kids usually have batting with their batting coach on Wednesdays and then team practices after that. Batting is about 20-30 min from the house in one direction and depending on the kid...team practice is 10-20 minutes from the house in the other direction. The older one's team practice is now later due to league usage of the field, so that gives me a little bit of time. I biked for 45 minutes (around 15.25 miles) and I did a small kettlebell workout. I was doing swings, deadlifts, and squat rows with the 10 lb bell with some adductor/abductor stretching in between. Five swings into set three and my body just said no. So, I switched it out for the 5lb bell and did several sets of overhead twists and wood choppers. I had several rounds of ball pickup with the older one at batting, so I'm wondering if that wore me out for part of my workout. The ball pickup involves a lot of bending, squatting, and lugging around a big bucket of balls...so maybe. Today is a free day, so I'm thinking I may walk after logging off work and doing school pickups. We'll see. Today is also a late arrival day for the kids...so no dropping my kid off in the dark today. Of course, my body still woke up at 5:20 and again at 6:15.

Tile floor was put in place in the half bath yesterday. Grouting should happen today. Now that I can see it, I'm kind of happy we went for accent paint over wallpaper...because I'm really loving the floor.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised when I think of it. There were some people who thought covid was spread because of the proliferation of 5G, so I could kind of (sort of) see how one would hear 'nano' and think nanobots or whatever.
