working out for Disney

The loaner was a Jetta, so I called her Judy (Judy Jetta-son). I tend to give my vehicles long names, sort of like a show dog, but derive a nickname from that long name. The Atlas is nicknamed Helga-Brigitta, or just Helga for short. Her long name is in German and includes a little profanity, so I won't write it out. It's funny though because it questions her background. VW is obviously a German automaker, but she was made in Tennessee. So, her full name questions if she can even speak her native language. I haven't decided if it's funnier to say the full German name in a German accent or in a southern drawl. 🤣

We've been really happy with the ortho and the treats were the icing on the cake. As a kid, these are the things she'll remember, but as the parent, I'm going to remember all of the little things they did on their off days or skeleton crew days to keep her comfortable. I also LOVE the other flavors of Tootsie Rolls! I have a friend who shuns them and makes a big deal out of them being "unnatural." 😂 I like to eat a vanilla and orange at the same time so I get a Tootsie Roll creamsicle.
I never even knew there were different flavors of tootsie rolls! I've only ever seen the chocolate ones, and I love those, but my kids don't like them.

Good afternoon :)

Today is a break day. On Friday, I only had time for a mini workout because it was my early day for work and we had softball that night. So, I got in about 15 min on the climber, 10 min on the bike, and the last 5 min was a combo of the squat machine and light arms. Yesterday, I put in a walk/run before softball and before it went from swampy and muggy to crazy hot. I got in about 4.25 miles and it looked like one big fairy world out there.

My allergies went nuts last night and I slept in today from my meds. On one hand, I hated losing half the day in bed, but on the other...it was nice to get all that sleep with all of the stress of late. Hopefully work and other stress sources don't get me down too much so I can focus on getting ready to road trip.

Good morning ☀

Today was day 16 of my 30 Barre program. It was core (my least favorite). I was fine with it until we got to the floor work. I really hate ab floor work, but it was over somewhat quickly. I don't mind planks, I just dislike all sorts of crunches.

I hurt my neck/shoulder on Monday. The left side of my neck hurts and the pain radiates underneath of my left shoulder blade. The last few nights of attempting to sleep were awful, every time I moved, the pain would wake me up. I still take walks, but I have to go a little slower, the impact hurts my neck/shoulder. This is something I have dealt with since I was a child, so I think it's just some some sort of instability I was born with.

I think we're going to have to cancel our Hilton Head Island trip, since SC is one of the states we're supposed to self-quarantine from for 2 weeks. I was reading reviews at TripAdvisor and the consensus is the hotel is not really enforcing the CDC guidelines. Apparently, they are not policing how many people they are letting into the pools and the chairs are not distanced. They are not enforcing masks indoors. This is a Westin, not a Motel 6. I don't think it's too much to set up chairs to allow for social distancing and ask people to mask up. This was our third attempt at an adults only trip, so I am thinking we might have to put it off until this junk is gone.

My husband is off tomorrow. We're trying to figure out what to do to get out of the house. :)

My wife went on a brief girls trip getaway to HHI a couple of weeks ago. She said very little social distancing and mask wearing was going on and she did not feel particularly comfortable. They stayed at a place a couple of blocks from the Westin. In the attached photo you can see the Westin to the far left and the crowd in front on the beach. Check out all the social distancing and many, many masks being worn in this pic. :( You can see from where they were, the crowd was thinner, but got heavier the closer to the Westin you got. She said they only wandered down that way during early morning or late evening strolls when it was less crowded.
We have cancelled a couple of trips this spring, and have a trip coming up in August to Sanibel Island, but with the increase in reported cases in Florida, and considering their brilliant leadership down there, we are not sure if we are going to keep that trip. Will probably decide last minute.

I am thinking this is not going to happen for us. We had a cruise set for September, but we canceled. Then we booked a room at Baker's Cay in Key Largo, we canceled because we weren't sure about the self quarantine situation. So we thought we would drive to HHI with a stop over in Richmond. Maybe we need to look at NC, I don't think we'd have to self-quarantine on either side of the trip. Or maybe we should give up! LOL

You may need to double check if NC is on the 14 day list for when you come back. Does your dh's job have any restrictions as to travel?

I have stuck to my workouts all week, but today was the only day I made time for the climber. I have noticed it makes a difference, but between some life stresses, I decided I needed a little extra sleep. Not sure that was the right choice, but I still biked at least 15.5 miles every day and got in arms and planking. I took today off from work to get ready for our trip, so I guess that freedom helped fuel my workout. I biked 17.5 miles in the same amount of time, threw in some extra arm work and stretching, and put in nearly 15 min on the climber.

Work stress was part of the week, but it's really back to school stress weighing on my mind. My younger one had her in person band audition yesterday, which went well and felt pretty comfortable even though I stressed the night before. Still every district around here is handling things so differently and we have one of the earliest start dates, meaning earlier hard decision dates. I'll spare you the nuts and bolts, but I had to put my preliminary choices in back in June and my mind is all over the place. The district normally waits to see what Houston is doing, but they came out a day before and said they are still planning on sticking with their June plans. July 27th is the next day we should hear something and should be when we can change our June selections if we've had a change of heart. Who knows...during this time, they might even flip their approach to mirror Houston's.

We are still planning on traveling...although two people in our house discussed canceling...not because of Covid, but for softball. Going away means missing a tournament. I guess at least you know the kid loves it, when she's willing to forfeit a vacation to play ball. Still, we're going...we need a break. I know what we're comfortable with may be out of the comfort zone for others, and I know there are some people who probably wouldn't even consider the bulk of the precautions we're looking to take and feel we're overreacting. I've seen varying Covid related reviews on our hotels... most positive and several irrelevant to our plans. Ex. one spoke about how only a handful of the resort restaurants are open, but we were planning on picnics, outside dining, etc. So, it's not a major impact to our plans. Unlike past trips, I will also be skipping the hotel gyms and relying on hiking for my fitness. Hopefully the time away will help me clear my mind and give me some perspective on things.

We're not planning on going anywhere. I'd love a break, but there's nowhere to go. Borders are open, but it sounds like cases are rising again, and I don't want to take any big risks. I'd really love to go to Southern Germany/Austria, but I just don't know if it's safe, so then I'd rather wait until we're sure it's safe. Back in June, there was a news story about a vaccine possibly being ready by October or November, but we haven't heard anything since then, so I don't know what's going on with it. If that happens, we'll be able to go for the May vacation maybe. But until there's something more concrete, I think we'll probably just stay put. I've noticed here that the majority of people are ignoring guidelines for distancing, etc. I have to be extra careful because no one else is paying attention, and I really hate it when I'm distancing from the person in front of me, but someone comes up and stands less than a foot behind me. I don't want to have to worry about that on vacation. I want to be able to relax, and I know I won't if people are being idiots.

I read that and I think she stayed at a Disney resort. It looked like they were following protocols for masks and social distancing. I don't belong to DVC, though. I know I could rent points, but everything is so fluid right now, I don't want to lose money if we can't travel.

I'd love a break, too, but it is hard to go anywhere right now where I would need to quarantine for two weeks upon arrival and/or quarantine for two weeks upon return. Our cases have been low in NJ and the gov of FL says people from here need to self quarantine for two weeks when we arrive. OK, makes total sense. 🥴

It is on the list, unfortunately. My husband's job right now can be done from anywhere. He was supposed to be traveling, but the banks he was supposed to visit have all of their HQ employees working from home, so they've been making it work remotely.

We're still trying to find out my son's housing arrangements. Long before this was an issue, we requested a private room for him. He is on the spectrum and he keeps odd hours. It's ironic, because I wanted him to live on campus and he wanted to drive in. Now, I am not so confident about him living on campus. Does anyone really think 18 year olds are going to socially distance? Honestly?

I hope you guys have a fun and safe trip. Like I said in an earlier post, I'd love to get out, but anywhere we'd like to go requires a 2 week self quarantine when we return. I believe the list contains 22 states now! LOL I can't imagine not leaving the house for two weeks. I'd miss my walks.

Good morning ☀

Today was day 17 of my 30 barre program. I like that these workouts don't waste any time. I feel like I get a lot of bang for my buck with these. I love yoga, but when I do 30 minutes, it feels like we only get to the flow of the practice for 10 minutes. The first 10 are warming up and the final 10 are cooling down and shavasana.

I have no idea what we're doing today. I think we're going for a walk shortly, but after that, who knows? It's not like there's a buffet of choices right now! :p

Happy Friday! 🎉

We were. We were at the Disney resort, though, which is on a different part of the island, and of course, Disney imposed all kinds of restrictions on their property. While we were on the beach, we were never uncomfortable. We stayed on our spot, people stayed in theirs. No, people weren't wearing masks (including me) but you can see from that beach that it's huge. The people grouped together were in the same groups. The only thing we weren't comfortable with was eating in restaurants; we got take out.

I'm not sure when they visited as well, but the Town of Hilton Head now has a mask requirement for indoor commerical establishments that was implemented right before fourth of July weekend that includes a $5,000 fine and 30 days in jail.

This was where I was fourth of July weekend.

My wife was there the week before July 4 and on a different part of HHI than where the Disney resort is, but she said she was most uncomfortable at the grocery store and at some of the outlet shops where people were paying no attention to any kind of mask wearing or social distancing, especially at the grocery store she went to. They were in a condo and bought groceries to prepare in the room for most of the trip, though they did get takeout from a couple of places while there.

Wow, whole different crowd dynamic there than down near the Westin. Was Disney operating the shuttle over to the beach?

Yeah, that would have been where we were most uncomfortable. I went into the General Store in Palmetto Dunes right before heading over to the beach to grab some drinks...no social distancing whatsoever. I got what I needed and left, and I didn't leave Disney property for the most part. My mom was fine at Kroger. We didn't shop or anything; we were there purely for outdoor activities. We brought my laptop with the HDMI cord and board games for if it rained (it never did).

They were, and there was one day that the parking lot was full. I don't think the resort was completely full, and the condos next door and the nearby Marriot were definitely not at capacity. But yeah, there was nobody near us on the beach, and most people at the Disney resort seemed to have the social distancing mentality because Disney had signage everywhere (I have a thread posted about it in the DVC section).

They need to take lessons from Disney. I have an entire thread posted about it already, but masks were required everywhere except on the pool deck and when eating, and they were enforcing distancing.

We just went to Hersheypark in PA and they were definitely enforcing there as well.

Is Virginia on the list? Their beaches are pretty nice.

I can't even imagine my wife going on a girls trip and them not doing at least some shopping. She likes both sets of the Tanger Outlets and I did get a nice surprise shirt from the Tommy Bahama outlet! And she came home with another Kate Spade handbag, because apparently bags are like shoes, you can't have too many I suppose. :)
