working out for Disney

OK-

So I finally got a workout in. It is from a Beach Body set called "Turbo Fire." It was different. It was 30 minutes of kickboxing + 10 minutes of relaxing stretching. I might do another tomorrow, before I head out on the road. The instructor is extra, but I can handle her in small doses.

I'm so glad I decided to stay home this week. I can't imagine getting home on a buddy pass when people are trying to change their flight plans. I probably would have had to buy a crazy $500 ticket back home. I hope this hurricane does a last minute U-turn.

@HouCuseChickie do your parents have any plans to leave?

No, they're staying. I've been trying for years to get them to evacuate for storms, but they never do. One of my dad's degrees is in meteorology, so he'll sit there doing all of his own assessments of things...not that it ever prompts them to leave. They were in a level 1 mandatory evacuation zone when they were in St. Pete Beach and even then, they wouldn't go. In their current location, they justify it by explaining how far inland they are (which is only far in FL terms)...and then go on to say there's nowhere to go. I can agree with that statement. The entire peninsula is vulnerable and a strong storm will often defy everything in the prediction models. So, you might think you're safe to the north or on the west coast, only to find out that the storm didn't move as planned and you're now in more danger than you were at home. I've told them to come here, but it's a long drive and finding enough gas on the interstate to get out of the state ... especially with the slow moving traffic ...could add up to being stranded on the road. FL also won't do contraflow, so it makes evacuations a total disaster. We went through it when trying to evacuate for RIta, so I know they don't want to get stuck in a mess like that. So, just have to hope it goes north of them and that their hurricane shutters and roof hold for whatever they do get. Oh...and power...hoping they aren't without power for long. I think it was around 2 weeks with Irma and about 3.5 weeks with Wilma. I think he got a generator this time...so hopefully that'll help.

It sounds like your father knows what he is doing and makes educated plans from that. It looks like it's going to skim the coast (at this point), not that it makes this less serious, but better than taking a direct hit. I hope they won't need the generator this time.

My brother lives in Ft Myers. He bugs out to Chicago by car with his dog and important items/documents at the first sign of trouble and stays with our grandmother.

Your brother makes a prudent decision to not chance anything. (As for HouCuseChicki's dad, he may be a good meteorologist overall, but still, no one can control the twists and turns of Mother Nature -- I'd still be concerned.)

Hello-

I did 15 min. hiit workout+10 minutes of stretching. Before that, I did a 5 minute warm up on my rebounder.

I've been getting up at 4:30 to use my light box, hopefully this will preempt any seasonal blah as we lose sunlight.

My husband wants be on the road at 9 AM and I have last minute packing to do. I am looking forward to a sumptious Indian meal tonight and dinner at Jaleo tomorrow. I hereby decree that calories don't count on holiday weekends. -_-

I can kind of understand where her father is coming from, but I would definitely be concerned at the same time. When I was in HS, the town next to me got hit by an F-5 tornado, which was absolutely devastating. No warnings were issued until after it was on the ground for a few minutes. After that, our local NWS office activated our tornado sirens every time a thunderstorm rolled through. It got to the point where people just ignored them after a while. I know this is stupid, but if it's day time and I don't see a wall cloud with rotation in it, I won't go in the basement. If it's night time or I see a wall cloud that looks like it's about to drop a funnel, I am in the basement (which was like a holiday resort for spiders and thousand leggers), hunkered down with blankets and pillows over me. I don't miss that nonsense at all! LOL

Trust me...I wish they would get out, but I also get it. They've been in the "cone" so many times just to have it be nothing, plus they argue that it's not an evacuation zone and people come inland to shelter near them. Then they note that unlike here, homes there are built according to certain hurricane standards. We've had similar issues where we live. Ike, in 2008, was the only time we successfully evacuated...and even then...I don't think it was necessary. My parents wanted us to for Harvey, but you don't normally flee a rainmaker.

The coastal skimming still concerns me. They got hammered by Irma for several days because she slowed down and skimmed the keys. I think they had another storm sit off the coast like this back in the early 2000s. It wasn't as intense, but being stuck in your home for days with the hurricane shutters up isn't fun.

I wish they'd evacuate, but after decades of this, I've just had to try and trust their judgement. The after storm part can be just as concerning. After Irma, it took over a week of them living in a hot house without power before we convinced them to go stay with my brother...who had it restored after a couple of days. He gave us a scare last time too. The cell towers went down in his area and my parents' coverage was too spotty to do anything, so I got to work with AT&T to track them down to make sure they were safe. Of course, all of that was right after Harvey for us.

I got in my workout yesterday afternoon as planned. I also got in my run and workout (light biking, kettlebells, and abs) this morning. The run wound up being a little bit later than planned because this guy showed up at my front door...

His owners were able to track him down along with his 4 month old brother. Not sure how they got out, but no collar. Ugh.

After that, I got in a really good run. If I can run this way next weekend...I'll be in really good shape for things with my local race. My average pace was over a minute faster than what I'd been running, I beat my fastest mile...without even trying...by about 35 seconds, I felt like I could boost my run intervals even more, and there was plenty left in the tank at the end. I ran the same area as last Saturday, but didn't go as far because I'm a week out from a race. I took a couple of pics up on the bridge and have come to the realization that headbands are just not my thing.

Little bit of rest now and then I have to get the older one to softball, before driving to try and make it to the younger one's tournament. Busy busy!

Hello

We got down yesterday. Unfortunately, our room wasn’t ready and my husband won’t leave his laptop at reception. By the time it was ready, the museums were closed. We decided to have a glass of wine on the terrace in the hotel. It was really beautiful weather. Another group had the same idea, but they were winding down with a spliff lol.

We had a really delicious dinner last night and I was really pleased that my son went outside of his food comfort zone. But I think half of the bill was all of the appetizers and desserts he ordered from himself!

I did a Fall Ayurveda yoga practice today since it is September 1. I’m presently waiting on my husband to get out and about.

Today was a break day...for exercise. It was really tempting to try and get in my Tuesday run today since I had the day off, but everything says to stick to my normal schedule and do nothing new during a race week. So, I'm doing just that. It's probably for the best anyway since we were so exhausted from a long weekend of softball. The younger one played NINE games between Saturday and Sunday. I realize she's the one out there in full uniform running around, but the temps were in the upper 90s, so it was kind of miserable for all. We also had a kid break her thumb in one of the games, which put a dark cloud over the event. Not to mention it was against a team that we already had issue with the previous day because they were caught cheating, but the umpire chose not to enforce the rules. Their kids had the audacity to sit their laughing as our player screamed. Their coaches tried to say it was because they heard our coach tell a joke, but this occurred well before any of that happened, when it was only their girls on the field. Ugh...some people. Not that I condone any of these brawls you see on tv, but I can see how it happens.

I'm starting to get anxious for this weekend. I know it's normal, but it's not like I won't be able to run at Disney if I can't post a time inside of my goal. I just may have to be more mindful of my pace and not do much in the way of stopping for characters. I mean, my average pacing is still several minutes better than the Disney requirement, so I really shouldn't worry about being swept for general pacing abilities. Still, it would be really nice to do well and have some of that pressure gone so I can experience more of the fun.

Not very encouraging to read about the other team's coach, let alone the umpire not enforcing the rules. These are kids on these teams, and the people in charge should be role models.

As for your race this weekend, don't fret about it. You've been focused and training for quite some time now, and I think you'll do well. Just don't overthink it -- just do what you've been doing and you'll be fine!

Yeah, it's pretty disheartening when the people in charge don't want to enforce/uphold all of the rules.

That's what I keep telling myself. It's like a test where I've done all of my studying and homework...I just need to actually take the test.

Last night's run was not fun...but weekday maintenance runs usually aren't. Plus, they are usually after work, when it's a bit hotter than I'd like, so that doesn't help either. I played with intervals, did some speed work, and tested jogging with no intervals. My ankle is giving me some issues...that seem to be bike related...so I am going to have to wear my brace and ease up for a bit.

I did wind up in an area that I run often, but don't normally stop to take pictures...

Pretty, but don't let it fool you. It's a good 91 degrees in there (at 7pm), with a feels like temp well over 100 because of the humidity.

Going to try some light biking and calf/ankle stretches during lunch. My younger one is home sick, but she's just resting on the couch. It took until the 4th week of school for her to get hit with the back to school crud...so, I guess that's saying something. I think she was also pretty worn down from the weekend.

Well, I'm officially in rest and relaxation mode until my 10k tomorrow morning. While we're expecting triple digit highs (and we have a softball tournament for the younger one and practice for the older), the morning low is supposed to be around 72...which would be AWESOME! Even if it's 75 at race time, I'd still be pretty happy.

My morning workouts yesterday and today were a bit lighter. I still hit my minimums on the bike...but no pushing it on speed, no extra tension, and no extra time. I did some leg work yesterday, but it was all barre type stuff that will help keep my legs loose. Today was arms and core...but more basic core, because I don't need to be Baby Shark abs sore when I'm trying to PR. I also put in my last maintenance run last night. It was MISERABLY hot (97 degrees at 6pm - heat index well over 100). It wasn't my plan to run that early, but the younger one had softball practice starting at 6pm and the older one's practice started at 7:30 (had to be there 15 min early to set up), so I had to make it work. My pace wasn't pretty, but I wasn't supposed to be pushing myself and in that heat, it's surprising that I was as fast as I was. It's all conditioning and it makes me stronger in when given better run conditions.

It's not like I'm running a half or longer, but I need carbs today...and they can't be the fiber filled variety. So, I've got some rice noodles and arborio rice lined up for the day. I don't want a protein bomb in my stomach, but I'm probably going to toss in some bacon and eggs as well as some lean ground turkey. I know arborio still has fiber, but not like beans and quinoa. Oh...and they tell you to do nothing new on race weeks and stick with what's worked. Well, my last few long weekend runs have been awesome...and in both cases, I ate a ton of gluten free/dairy free cookie dough between Wednesday and Thursday of those weeks. So you know what I've been eating :D ;)

No
I meant to get up and go to the pool today. I sprained my left ankle, so pool is basically what I'm able to do for now.
Here's how that went down:
I packed and for everything ready the night before.
My alarm went off at 6:30.
I yelled at my alarm (because it's an Alexa) and then yelled some more because when I turn off an alarm, I have her programmed to turn on my lights and turn on some music.
Then I went back to sleep for another hour.
Well...I guess I'll try again tomorrow.

I feel like I've been MIA...no updates on here, no PTR, and no TR. Things have been busy and just keep getting more crazy. I had to go to the dr on Monday because they didn't like some of my test results from my annual back in June, so now I'm waiting for more info on that and trying not to freak out. I had to spend half of my morning today getting one of my tires checked out. I'm hoping to update the PTR with lots of run updates tomorrow (maybe even tonight...since I really don't feel like making lunches), but I also have to get the older one in to the dentist to have a stubborn baby tooth extracted...which means also getting to the orthodontist to have some wires snipped. And of course, school stuff and softball are always eating into time...not to mention work. My mom's bday is this week, so we have to do something for that...the kids are both doing sleepovers on Saturday...I have to start planning dessert stuff for a school function for next week...outfit coordination for a manners banquet...a car wash fundraiser...trying to figure out when I can get the older one into the dr for an annual and the pups into the vet for weigh in for meds. OY!!! Calgon??? Oh, and I also have the 10k in my town next weekend...the one where I'm hoping to meet my goals.

I'll try not to duplicate too much of what's going into the PTR, but the race on Saturday was pretty good...not as good as I wanted it to be, but better than I've ever been. It was far from ideal conditions, there was some stress in getting there, and a handful of other things that weren't going my way. I landed funny on my foot and had been having some pain, but I ran this morning before taking my car in, and both feet and ankles felt pretty good. I've been keeping up with gym workouts for cross-training too, but trying not to push too hard on the bike because I really need my Achilles to cooperate.

I did notice some nutrition things that I'll be doing differently...or more normally.... next week. They tell you to cut back on your fiber before a race. I'm sure I don't need to explain why. I have been focusing on complex carbs with lots of good fiber and protein, so this wasn't easy for me. Still, I like Arborio rice, potatoes and rice noodles, so I went for those. While I'm sure it helped me avoid potential catastrophic stomach issues ... the white carbs kind of weighed me down and didn't give me as much energy as my norm. They say nothing new during a race week and these weren't new...they just weren't mixed in like normal with my other more nutritious carbs. My food processor also died and I'm not sure when I'll have time to look into a new one, so no hummus for a while. I've been making bean salads instead...kidney beans, garbanzo beans, and white beans. Yay beans. LOL

I did know you did a PTR. I'll have to check it out.

You sound incredibly busy. I'm not trying to tell you what to do, but maybe try to find some time for a little breather for yourself-even if it's just sitting with a book and a cup of tea. I got stressed out just reading your first paragraph and you're running training for races, too. You don't want to run yourself down and get sick.
