working out for Disney

Mom update first...this morning, she was moved out of ICU to a regular room. My dad is hoping she'll be discharged tomorrow, but we'll have to wait and see. They started allowing liquid food last night and she's moved up to things like yogurt, cream of wheat, noodle soup, etc. It's sounding like they should still be able to visit us next month, but I've decided to bail on my plans to go to Louisiana this coming week and fly to FL instead.

Speaking of watches, I'm learning my new GPS smart watch. It's not a nice looking as the ones above (which are making me think about getting my batteries replaced in my good watches), but I picked a digital face that makes a hidden Mickey :D

I've downloaded a number of cool faces...from college ones to animated ones with classic 80s video games. LOL Once I figure out this auto pause stuff, I think I'm going to really love this thing. It can also hold up to 500 songs, but I'm in no hurry to load those since I don't plan on running without my phone any time soon.

I got in a good run this morning. I messed up my auto pause during my run, so my recorded pace was slower than my actual pace, but even my messed up recorded pace was around a minute and a half faster than my last 4 mile run from a month ago. I guess this is why some people run with two watches. I thought about wearing my old one, but I gave it to my older daughter because she wants to start doing some runs with me. I probably got in about a half a mile walking to and from the trail routes. It was this pic that I stopped to take ... that isn't even that good ... that messed up my auto pause.

This is one of my favorite areas to run. You come out of the forest to this area along the lake and one of the golf courses. The only downside is that this is a really low area. What goes down must go up. if they want to get home :hilarious: Running up steep hills isn't fun, but it's good training.

After my run, I biked about 6.25 mi indoors to loosen up my legs, did a whole lot of leg stretching, and then worked on abs for about 15 min.

Hope you're feeling better! Just the thought of leg day is making my hamstrings hurt! 🤣 Still, it's so good for you too!
Much better! Now my husband has a cold, Ohio weather has been so up and down lately which I think is messing with us.

Glad to hear she is getting better may get discharged soon! 🙂

I'm not a runner, but just curious -- wouldn't just the running, itself, loosen up your legs enough? ( I do understand the post-running, cooldown process of stretching though.)

You tend to stiffen up after a run if you don't keep moving for a while, which leads to extra aches for me, so I give my legs another form of movement for a while to help reduce this. Stretching helps some, but it's part of why they tell you to not stop and keep walking after you've run a distance. I've also suffered from runner's knee in the past, and I've found alternative movements are helping keep that away (fingers crossed!).

Now that is a cool watch. So it is a digital display and you can download different watch faces to the display and change them at will, or depending on your mood?
If that is the case, I will just have to keep repeating, "I don't need another watch, I don't need another watch."

O.k. That makes perfect sense, particularly walking after the run. I think that's also to help your heart slow down to regular resting rate.

Thanks! Yes, it's a digital display and they've got several thousand displays you can download. They range from technical displays that focus more on all of the running stats to more classic looking watch faces and fun options. Jury is still out for me on this one. I had a screen glitch this morning. It fixed itself with a reboot, but I'm hoping it doesn't need to be replaced.

So, my older one wanted to start running with me. This sounds awful, but I know how she is and I didn't have high expectations for this. So I told her we could try and run on a day when I'm not doing training work. I'll spare you a ton of the frustrating details and just say it didn't go well. We got in a little over a mile of running and about two walking...with a lot of whining and stopping. I told her that she can ride her bike with me if she wants to come again in the near future and that until then she needs to hit the treadmill to work on her stamina, not fight me when I tell her to hydrate, not fight me when I tell her to pace herself, and to make better clothing and footwear choices (especially when we've talked about this stuff and she's already had painful issues). After that, I went up to the gym and biked about 9.35 mi on higher tension while also working my arms with the 5lb dumbbells. After that, I did a bunch of squats, did deadlifts and swings with kettlebells, and worked on my abs.

My mom is still in the hospital. Her levels still weren't where they needed them to be, so they gave her more blood today. My dad is really hoping she's released tomorrow. She sounds really ready to be out of the hospital. I can't blame her. At least she's now in a private room and can rest more. She wasn't able to sleep much when she was in the ICU.

Woke up at 2:47 a.m. and tossed and turned until about 3:30 and quietly got on up. I hate sleepless nights because they always lead to sluggish days. Over did it with some yard work and more pressure washing Saturday and am paying for it today.
Got plans for a meatloaf on the grill this evening, so that should be fun.
Although, it does occur to me that it is a bit pathetic when your coming day's happiness revolves around meatloaf. I gotta get better, more meaningful hobbies.

What's wrong with a meatloaf hobby? Sounds both delicious and inspiring to me!!! :joyfull:
