Hello-
I am in with Body Combat 58. Nice and sweaty, just how I like it. :)
It was in the upper 70s today, so I made this recipe for pork satay with Thai spices and peanut sauce from the NYT. I can post it, if anyone wants it. It was delicious.

@epcotisbest It's good to see you and your photos again. That truck you sold is so cute. Good for you in getting more than you expected!

Oh wow....we haven't even broken 65 yet this year, and that only 1 time. But then, the Netherlands never does get the summers that we used to get in the US. Here, if it reaches the low 90s that's a lot, and usually we get about 3 weeks worth of nice days, generally interspersed throughout June, July, and August and usually not more than about 2 or 3 days in a row. I miss SUMMER. But, since we'll be in the US for 5 weeks this summer, we'll actually have a real summer, so I'm looking forward to it!!

When I was living in London last summer, it got up to 94F one day. So many schools let out early for the day and I remember the asphalt on the street getting soft. It was a big news event. London is really muggy, too. But it is just not equipped to handle high temps, since it's such an infrequent event. We lived in a garden flat, so being close to the ground helped keep us cool, but I can't imagine what it was like on the upper floors. They don't have a/c or screens like we do here.

We are fortunate to have a property that has lots of spring blooms. There are some more coming in right now that I'll of course take some more photos of.
Part of my problem is I just eat too much. So, I have to cut back. Calories are still calories, low carb or not, and I am just consuming too many calories and not burning enough calories.
I will mention a small victory over temptation this evening. My wife is out of town on a business trip. Took her to the airport this morning. I hate driving in Atlanta and the airport is just a pain to get in and out of. And traffic was light being it was Sunday morning. Gotta pick her up and head back through that awful traffic during rush hour traffic later this week. Dreading that.
Anyway, the small victory. I thought very hard about getting pizza this evening. I could pig out and no one would know. Well, I would know, so instead, I had a piece of leftover chicken and some oven-roasted veggies and drizzled it all with hot sauce. Very tasty and filling. Not as tasty and filling as pizza, but if I had pizza I would not be feeling very good about it.

I would rather have this than pizza!! Those veggies look delicious, and I LOVE grilled chicken!!! I think you made the right choice. Go you!!

Nope, we don't have a/c or screens either...like the UK, it's not seen as necessary because we so rarely get the high temps and when we do, they seldom last very long. We had the same heat wave last year. It got up to 43C in my DD's classroom and almost all the schools in the Netherlands either canceled school or modified their hours, starting earlier and doing a continuous roster (no going home for lunch) even if they don't already have a continuous roster every day, so they could send the kids home before the hottest part of the day. Our school is one of the few that did NOTHING to combat the heat. One of the fathers with a kid in my daughter's class brought in popsicles for the class, and the teacher brought in watermelon for the water content, but they didn't let the kids out early, they didn't shift the starting time...nada. And my daughter's class was the only one who got the popsicles because a father wanted to make sure his kid didn't get overheated and dehydrated. The rest of the kids got nothing. It was horrid. All the kids came out sweaty and just not looking like they felt very good. But it was something like...5 days in a row above 100F.

Thank you for the encouragement. I am liking veggies more and more. And I grill several times per week trying different things. And we tend to try different things with leftovers too. Breakfast was a leftover meatloaf omlette with pepper jack cheese and hot sauce. Very tasty, but as you can see, probably a bigger portion size than I need. Gotta cut back on serving size.

View attachment 139542 Good morning!!! Hope you all had a nice weekend!!
It was very nice and sunny so we did some outdoor work. The flowers are gorgeous this year.
@epcotisbest your azaleas are very pretty!
Here are some of my outdoor plants. View attachment 139542

So with my wife outta town, I was just hanging out yesterday evening, bored as all get out and decided once the sun started going down and the lighting got more favorable, I would take a few more flower photos. Hope these don't bore anyone too much.
The orange azalea has started opening. I like the ones just opening up before they turn a darker orange. I also like the contrast between the just opened blooms and the ones yet to open. Also, this is one of the few plants here with a first name...this is "Melvin."

So there are worse things I could be doing on a lonely Sunday evening than taking flower photos. Hope I did not bore you too much with my quiet (except for the crazy barking dogs) activity. Here is my favorite photo of the evening. Not because of the color, or composition or anything, but for what it is.
This is the big ole Mountain Laurel shrub growing beside one corner of our house and it has just started to begin to bloom. Looks like it is going to be very full this year. What makes this photo interesting to me is I happened to stumble across the very first and only bloom to open up so far. A single bloom that decided someone had to go first. It is an early riser, kinda like me.
So, while a kinda boring photo, I think it is cool seeing the very first of what looks to be a whole lotta blooms to come.

*knock on wood* So far, though I do feel it after I've been quite active. DD and I walked quite a bit yesterday and I could feel a sort of catch by the end of it, but it didn't really hurt, per se. It's getting better with time. How about yours? Was it just the one day that it bothered you or are you still having troubles?
Thank you for remembering. I think I just slept funny that night because the yoga I did the next morning opened them right up. As for the weather anything below 50 and I'm cold very cold LOL. It's about 70 now and I'm almost happy in shorts and a tank:joyfull: I'm going strolling in a bit to keep breaking in my flip flops

@epcotisbest you and your wonderful pictures were very much missed while you were away! Congrats on your A1C going down. Don't worry about the weight as much as your other numbers and waist size. Those are a much better indicator of health. I'm also glad you got more than expected for your very pretty truck.

Thank you. Yes, the numbers going down after a steep increase at January's doctor's visit was encouraging. All the numbers are looking good except for weight. She pointed out the weight is probably a shift from fat to muscle and muscle weighs more, but we both agreed with the lower A1C and sugar numbers that there is often a weight decrease that accompanies better eating and increased activity. Oh well, guess you can leave it to me to be different.
As always, thanks for the kind words and encouragement.

Good morning Monday morning weights and day 7 of 30 days of yoga followed by 6 miles of walking. Lots of broccoli this week because it was on sale LOL I'm heading off to make a nice big lunch with water sauteed peppers and onions also on sale and tonight's dinner a big pot of veggie chili. Today and tomorrow are going to be nice and warm so I'm going to get a lot of walking done:joyfull:
