Good morning, good not great it's going to rain on and off today so I may have to walk alone between the rain bands:( day 8 of 30 days of yoga. I really like this, it's a nice balance of faster and slower practices. If nothing else I'm getting nice and open. Open isn't exactly the right word but it fits:confused: Then onto 5 fat burning miles (LS). In the low carb spirit for lunch I'm doing a raw lo mein with kelp noodles. In other words I'm going to shred or spiralize a bunch of veggies and top with a dressing made with ginger, vinegar, aminos and a pinch of stevia. I have some left over chili for dinner

@epcotisbest , really enjoyed all your pictures yesterday. Believe it or not, I've never actually seen orange azaleas before--only pink and purple, which are pretty, of course. But, the orange stood out in their brilliance. And do you name all your plants? How did "Melvin" come to be? ;)

As for the gorgeous tree, I was impressed to read that you and your wife have been taking care of that for quite a few years and watched it grow. I imagine it must take some skill to grow those.

Hope you get in a nice walk today. That's my main source of exercise--I have a trek to and from public transportation each work day, so I have no choice anyway--I sort of win the exercise struggle by default! :p I also work in a very large, multi-building complex, so goodness knows how many steps I walk each day, just in the course of my job.

Thanks for the kind comments.
"Melvin" is a flame azalea. Flame azaleas are native to the Appalachia mountains region and can be found from Georgia to Southern NY. The most common color is orange, but can be found in other colors as well. Ours came from a cutting off a plant in the yard of a friend. We rooted it, then planted the clipping once it had sprouted some nice roots. It grew nicely over the years, but did not bloom at all for the first few years, but has been blooming nicely for many years now.
Melvin was the pastor who married us some 33 years ago. He and his wife had the most beautiful flower gardens. They gave us the clipping, so only fitting it is named Melvin. Just a few other plants at our house have names, but they all get in on the conversation. Yes, we talk to the plants, especially the house plants and container plants on the porch. Melvin and Mary are both gone now and we miss them. Took them to Florida with us one time and they loved Epcot and SeaWorld. They went with us to Williamsburg one year as well.
Good memories.
No special skills in growing the Japanese Maple. Just blessed with good soil I suppose.
Keep up the walking. It makes a big difference. For us, yard work, walking, bicycle riding and hiking are our main sources of exercise. We also have an elliptical machine and total gym. My wife uses the elliptical very often, especially in the winter. I occasionally dust the total gym, but that does not burn many calories.

Yes, I've heard that people talk to plants. Should I talk to my plastic plants? o_O I don't have any real ones (they always die . . . :cautious: ) so I have a few small plastic ones. They look kinda real. :p

Well, I do use it to sometimes hang a shirt from, or even as a doorstop. Sometimes stack boxes on it too!

I like practical people. Those are intelligent uses for the total gym. Good for you--multipurposing items in the home. :D

Sure, go ahead and talk to plastic plants. The only thing is, they will just ignore everything you say!

Good morning Wednesday weights and day 9 of 30 days of yoga so lots of twisting and knees to chest:hilarious: It's nippy so I have to really bundle up to go walking and one chicken already chickened out. I already made broccoli omletes for the boys. I'm going with dandelion tea now and a berry, spinach smoothie for breakfast when I get back from my first walk. If nothing else all the twisting killed my appetite LOL

Sounds good...I understand that you can't really taste the spinach, right? A friend of mine did a juice cleanse and she hated all the ones with red beets ( can't blame her...beets taste like sour dirt to me) but any of them with apple or carrot she said were great. And the spinach wasn't bad at all because it was masked by other flavors.

I don't even taste the spinach or kale in smoothies. Even the ones with just tomato, celery and cucumber for flavor.:)

To get a driver's license in Atlanta, you have to answer the following question as truthfully as possible.

Are you a rude, obnoxious, careless, clueless driver with no consideration for your safety or the safety others.
___Yes
___No
If you answer yes, they pin a medal on you and turn you loose on the street.
