So I decided to go meatless for dinner the other night and it turned out really good. I made cabbage sauteed in olive oil and sprinkled with garlic powder, paprika, onion powder and black pepper and also tossed in some crushed red pepper flakes for a little extra kick. To accompany the big pot of cabbage, I made great northern beans and added a pat of butter to give it a bit more creaminess. The beans went surprisingly well with the cabbage. Also made carrots simmered in butter with a little bit of cinnamon and sugar tossed in, but not much sugar. To go with all this veggie goodness, a broccoli salad with red onions and yellow raisins, but I think I put too much mayo in it.
A little cooler here than it has been but still unusually warm for December and they are saying we are going to break high temp records next week, so no excuse for not walking. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
You're going to out healthy us all at this rate! Keep it up xoxo

Good morning today is total zen. Not a workout but an attitude. I started my day by doing a Psyche Truth stretch video. Now it's time for some ginger green tea and my daily shot of spices. I'm staying in today to bake my cookies, I'll do some yoga later and take a nice long soak in warm water with epsom salts, baking soda and lavender oil. Everybody needs to find a way to get some down time during this crazy time of year!!!!!!!!! Please try and find some you time. xoxo

I like your zen attitude, and I think I'll borrow some for the work week ahead. There have been a number of holiday parties at work the past week, and there were all kinds of sweet treats (my favorites are the decorated Christmas cookies, and Christmas cakes). :hungry: I suspect there will be lots more goodies every day this week as well, so maybe if I can work on my zen attitude toward moderation in the partaking of delicious treats, I might be able to hold off gaining yet another pound this holiday season?! :p

Yeah, we have had several holiday gatherings to attend as well and the temptation table is hard to pass by. What I have been doing is instead of just avoiding it, I have a small sample of things that look especially good. A bite of a pie, or sample of cake is better than having a whole slice and much better than deprivation by having none.
I find having small samples helps battle temptation of having way too much. And the small sample also helps with the difficulty of not having any at all.

That soak sounds nice. My wife and her best friend are out Christmas shopping again so I have way too much down time today. I really don't get the whole lets go out in the crowds and hustle and bustle mentality, but if it is something they enjoy then I am happy for them.

That's the spirit! You can do it.

I'm going to head out and do a bit of shopping to day, for food. But seeing I'll be going past a mall I may pop in and stretch my legs and do a few laps. I did LS's walk to the hits party mix but I'm sure I'll need a bit of strolling and people watching later. For those attending holiday functions you may want to have a low calorie snack before the event to keep hunger and overeating away. May the force be with you over the next 2 weeks.

Hello-

Checking in with my workouts. Yesterday was a hiit cardio, followed by a leg workout and today I have an upper body strength training on tap. My husband and son are going to see SW today, so I will likely work out while they're doing that. I have been doing a lot of food shopping, too. My mom is doing Christmas Eve, which is just a bunch nibbles. But I'll be baking and doing prep for Christmas Day, which I am hosting. I have my work outs scheduled in such a way that my stretching day is Christmas Eve and my rest day is Christmas.

Sending prayers and pixie dust for his interview. At least the weather will be good out here on the coast until late afternoon. Have you considered where you'd live if he gets it?

We have no idea. The recruiter told him a day and half before the interview that they wanted to see him, so we haven't gotten that far. My husband thinks the role might be a little too junior for where he is in his career, although he said it looked like a fun place to work. My dream is for him to get another job in London and moving back. LOL

Cooked a meatloaf on the grill today to make up for the meatless meal the other day. Turned out very good. Nice smoke ring, but maybe a bit too much tomato sauce on the top.

Wow, that looks delicious. I made a meatloaf yesterday, too. It was "Thai-inspired." I used jasmine rice, scallions ginger, garlic, soy sauce and fish sauce with ground turkey. I used sriracha, sriracha ketchup, brown sugar, and rice wine vinegar for the glaze. But I've never had grilled/smoked meatloaf. I'll have to try that when warmer weather returns.

Just checking in with ripped in 30 Jillian Michaels. I popped stretch into yoga in the dvd player to remind me to slow down and do it later instead of watching a movie I've seen 30 times. I'm also heading out and doing a bit of walking later. Have a great day and be strong.

It was very good. I cook a lot on the grill and like trying new things. With the grill I have, it is easy to hold a steady temperature and grilling indirect with the drip pan under the meatloaf, it turns out really moist and tasty. Yours sounds quite tasty too, a bit unusual and exotic, whereas my meatloaf is just southern country comfort food. Boring but good I would describe mine. Do try grilled. It is kinda like with hamburgers, they always taste better, at least to me, when grilled. The smokey, grilled flavor of the meatloaf just bumps it up a notch or two in the flavor department.
Think I might try your recipe next time though I have never tried ground turkey.

I guess we're on meatloaf run here! LOL I'm trying an Italian meatloaf tonight with eggplant and white beans
That sounds really good. I have a mixture of pinto and white beans soaking right now and plan to cook them later with some ham seasoning. I am adding more beans to the meals I prepare for the fiber. Beans are one of the high fiber foods I have been trying to eat more of while eating less breads and refined carbs.

If anyone is wondering, one of my brothers has the same kind and brand of kamado grill and we often take photos of our cooks and email the photos and recipes back and forth to each other. That is why I have pictures of the food and I then sometimes share the photos here as well.
I share the photos with my brother and he sends me pictures of stuff he has grilled too. Even better is when we share the actual food we have cooked. That is much better than sharing photos!

Just a word of caution. ground turkey comes with different fat contents. Some are very lean and some have lots of fat just like ground beef. Try it you might like it!!!!!!!!!!!! My dh likes bison which is lower in fat than beef. That can get a little dry if over cooked.

All I ever use for meatloaf is bison. Been using that for about 6 years now--it's great for meatloaf. If it dries out a bit, it just means that a person cooked it a bit too long--because bison is leaner than regular ground beef, it tends to cook a little quicker. My recipe isn't fancy--just some Worstershire Sauce, tomato ketchup, one egg, and 1/2 packet of Lipton onion soup mix.
