Good morning everyone. I'm up earlier than usual. I'm changing my eating habits, and having more energy. @figmentfan423, what are two of your favorite vegetarian cookbooks? How can I convince hubby to join me on better eating?
My 2 favorites are Eat to Live cookbook and the China Study cookbook. The End of Dieting has some very good recipes as well. I do the cooking so my dh doesn't have much choice LOL. Explain to him you'd like to have him around for a long healthy time.

@betty rose check out your local library for cookbook and healthy eating books. everybody has different tastes and I don't want to see you spend too much money on a book you may only use a few times.

Thanks @figmentfan423. I told him this morning he was going to have to change his eating habits, too. He told me, he figured that was coming. I was thinking that maybe, I'll do one "healthy", meatless meal a day. Mostly the sautéed veggies, I've been having. Is that how you started. It seems a little intimidating , as to where to get started.

I'm pretty good at looking at recipes, and figuring what it will taste like. Thanks for caring so much. You are so sweet!xoxo
Thank you xoxo I went almost cold turkey giving up meat. Dairy and eggs were easier because they give me tummy trouble. Same with red meat. The price of organic meat and learning how we raise most meat in this country also helped me give it up. I read Joel Fuhrman's books and they made the most sense to me. I dropped lots of weight without really trying, and I felt better and had more energy. I don't eat white sugar and very little adult beverages at home. A glass of local wine here or there. Good luck and do what works for you.

Thanks for the words of wisdom. I can't have dairy, and don't like red meat. It's the white bread, pasta, rice. and sugary desserts that are my downfall. Do you eat any chocolate? I have an addiction to it, and I know it has a lot of sugar.

An afternoon margarita, is the next thing to tackle on my list of bad habits.

That initial time frame when you go from aching to having more energy and starting to feel better, and also noticing clothes are starting to feel a bit looser, for me, was a motivating time. It felt good and I wanted it to feel even better. Keep it up, it does get even better.
One thing we do so we both eat better is to plan and prepare meals together. Can't always do that because of differing time schedules, but when we do we make it more than just a meal, but an activity we do together. It is fun, except for the cleanup, because I make a huge mess, both in the kitchen and on the deck where I grill a lot.

I don't eat a lot of food from flour, brown rice and no white sugar. And what would life be without chocolate, I try and find very dark, no dairy and not made with white sugar at the health food store. I am addicted to chocolate berry shakes. Mixed berries, cocoa powder, spinach or kale, coconut or almond milk and a splash of whatever natural sweetener is around:hungry:

Great ideas, hubby isn't into cooking, but he does like to chop and dice, I think he did that for his Mom . That's a great way to start. Thank you so much, I love that everyone is so helpful on this sight!

Does the flavor of the kale, come through?

Roasted veggies, either on the grill or in the oven, have become a staple for us. Local farmer's markets make it easier, but the fresh, local grown stuff is now over for this year. Winter is on the way and exercising and eating better becomes a bigger challenge.
I hate the cold. So I have a stash of exercise DVDs and have found some really good workouts on youtube. I also try and stand for 10 minutes out of every hour.
