working out for Disney

That sounds fantastic, but I don't know if we have stevia here...if we do, I don't know where to get it or what it's called. (they change the names of everything over here...took me FOREVER to find baking soda...now I've been told it's prescription only at the pharmacy, but I can still get it at the toko....Chinese supermarket) Do you know if honey would work as a sweetener?
I think that would make it too sweet at least it would be for me. Sometimes I put in a small piece of frozen banana for sweetness

It seems logical. For me, the long term 100 lb goal is more...I can't think of the word. My little goals are more abstract. I know that I need to lose around that much to be healthy, but I don't really weigh myself because the number discourages me. So I think in terms of what I want from being healthier, if that makes sense. Like...I want to be able to go to Disney without worrying about not being allowed on certain rides because a safety bar won't close. I want to be able to fly on a plane without worrying that I'll need a seatbelt extender. I want to be able to go to a regular clothing store and see something cute and find my size, not dream about someday maybe being able to wear something like that. I want to be able to wear boots!! And I want certain feminine areas to decrease in size so I can shop in a regular lingerie store for supportive garments. (sorry...don't know how to put that in a way that's not crude or TMI)
You can do it just do one step at a time. Set an easy goal something like I'm going to move 5 out of the next 7 days and eat healthy for a week. No white flour, no white sugar no fatty cuts of meat and up the veggies. Every time I met a goal I bought myself a little present. Something little a tube of lipstick or such. It's not going to be easy in the beginning but to some extent it will get easier. You might want to get yourself a small pair of hand weights as muscle burns more calories than fat.

How is the PiYo? That's one I'm thinking of springing for. Is it worth it and how many workouts does it include? THNX

It's OK. It's hard to find previews online, because Beach Body keeps such a tight lid on their content. I bought this as a presale, and the promo video for it and the actual set are two different things. If practice yoga regularly and you can do sun salutations and chatturangas without issue, I would say give it a miss. I think this is for people who are unfamiliar with yoga and Pilates, JMO

There is one disc I like called "Buns" that's kind of fun. It uses gliders, but I feel like there is so much similarity from DVD to DVD.

I paid $100 for the base package and the strength add on, but the base package is $60. The base package has 8 work out and the strength add on is two.

I know in the past years, Beach Body has had a Black Friday sale, so if you can hold tight, you might be able to get it on sale. :)

Let me know if you are thinking of buying, because the person I use will not bug you to buy Shakeology or to join any "challenges." This person sells fitness DVDs, but is also a Beach Body coach. You buy from her, your order shows up, no additional sales drama. Win/win.

I want to work out, but I saw some one going selling door-to-door earlier and the room I work out in (with the DVD player)f aces the street. I don't want this person to see me in the window and ring my door bell. I like my yoga uninterrupted.

It's funny how they always think the "No solicitations, please." sign is not applicable to them. :p
Good luck!

One of my friends does zero carbs (I couldn't do it!) and one of the things she makes that is really great is meatza pizza. She slices a chicken breast into 3 slices and bakes them to use as crust. Then she blends tomatoes, parmesan cheese (I think), bacon and herbs to make sauce and then she piles on things like pepperoni, cheese, peppers, etc....basically anything that doesn't have carbs. She said she allows herself as much fat as she wants, just no carbs and she's lost over 100 lbs, so apparently what she's doing works for her.

Sorry, I am catching up on replies now...
It's crazy, but it seems counterintuitive. Back in July, I worked with a personal trainer and she told me to increase my fat and protein intake and just get carbs from fruit at breakfast and the veggies after that. I lost 6 lbs. that month. I ate only three times a day and wasn't hungry between meals. Unfortunately, we moved from London to the US after that and we a lot of take away while our stuff was shipped over. It's kind of hard to get back in that groove, so for now I am eating brown rice, instead of the enriched white, avoiding the refined stuff, etc...

It doesn't help that I am an avid baker and I always get the itch this time of year to bake. I am always baking bread and who can resist freshly baked bread with butter on it? :hungry::inlove:

Good evening all.

Still keeping up with my walking. Yesterday, I did about 1 1/2 miles in 30 minutes. Pretty proud of myself for that as our street has a lot of hills, so it was intense and brisk. Today I walked around campus. That was a 50 inute brisk walk, though I could not tell you the mileage. Campus is not flat, the walk included hills, stairs, and walking through a field at one point. Tomorrow I think I'll take the day off and just maybe do some stretching. I'm pretty sore.

As well as losing some weight, I kind of want to bulk down. I'm naturally muscular, but I would prefer to be leaner. So any suggestions on that would help. I cut the majority of the red meat from my diet a while ago and most of my protein is now chicken. I eat a lot of chicken. I'll have a beef hot dog or burger on the weekends some, and occasionally a little bit of steak or beef if that is what my mom makes, but for a while, I was eating steak several times a week (well-trimmed steak, but still steak) but now I eat a lot of chicken. If I put it in a salad, the salad will hold me for a meal. I've gotten leaner since laying off the beef. My family is big on steak and beef, and now that I cut it from my diet mostly, it's usually not appealing. Other suggestions (non dietary, more exercise-based) would be appreciated.

For those who don't know, I am pretty injured si I have to be careful for now. I tore a ligament in my thumb over the summer and had surgery to correct it three weeks ago, so no weight training or anything where I could fall and injured the hand or anything where my weight is on the hand. And last month, I was rear-ended and injured my back and ended up with whiplash, so now I am in physical therapy. So I need stuff that is easy on the back and neck as well.

See why I'm basically walking for now?

Yes, it's basically a pedometer, but it also counts floors you've climbed as well.

They have a few different models depending upon what you want in a pedometer.

My doctor has one. He recommended it to me. He needs to lose a lot of weight, way more than I need to, so he's sympathetic to my plight. I might think about it if I get some cash from my car accident settlement.

I feel your pain, the only reason I can resist bread and real butter is because it makes me sick. Between the gluten and lactose let's just say it's not a pretty picture. Freshly baking bread sure does smell good and I'm going to be baking some pumpernickel this weekend. Nothing like wearing a face mask and wearing gloves to feed my dh. He's going to owe me big time. (I'm trying to talk him into upgrading our tickets to APs and doing going to Disney when we are going to be in the area without the boys):D

That sounds like a wonderful walk. I'd stick with what you're doing for now as walking is the safest thing for you to do for a while. When you get cleared by your doc and only after you've been cleared you might want to look into doing yoga. BUT ONLY AFTER BEING CLEARED BY YOUR DOC!!!!!!!!!! Do I make myself clear young lady. (in my best mom voice) Get well soon xoxo

Good morning for me it's going to be LS's 5 advanced miles as I need something quick as I have lots to do today. I'm going to a farm market to stock up on veggies. We've had our first freeze so it looks like I'm going to be going to both the Friday and Saturday ones until they close for the year right before Thanksgiving. Remember to fuel your body, hydrate and move it.

Walking is what I do, along with bike riding. I live near a state park that has some good walking trails, and I find that more to my liking than just walking the neighborhood, which gets boring. Once you become a regular walker, it gets easier and the soreness will go away. Just muscle through it but don't ignore pain that could be a sign of something worse. And you control your level of exertion on the walks. Take it easy and slow if you need to, but do walk. Baby steps lead to bigger steps!

Cutting back on carbs makes a huge difference for me. Your mileage may vary. I can eat eggs and cheese and bacon and things like that and loose weight. If I slip up, which I often do, and add in pancakes, waffles, biscuits, whatever the weight loss stops. I don't really understand the science, but being type2 diabetic, I have to watch the carbs anyway, but from personal experience, breads, pasta, potatoes, most any kind of refined carbs are problems for me.
