Wookies, & Rebels, & Droids... OH WHY?! The Anti-SWL in Disneyland Thread

So not sure what will bring you peace until we see them on the schedule :)

The day I see an official article from DPB, and the day I people getting into the Canoes with their oars will bring me peace.

The Rocket Rods and the Guardians examples didn't come in the form of articles (at least I don't think so for RR). I remember there being signs for RR and a mere comment came from of the the Disney bloggers regarding Guardians. DPB articles are more trustful.

You don't have to just trust Disney on this one. The community and insiders also say they are coming back.

Besides canoes made the Shanghai menu, I wouldn't be that worried if they were good enough for Bob's new park.

Autotopia on the other hand, its days are numbered.

I haven't changed my mind one bit. I don't like this being in Disneyland. In fact, I don't like anything Disney has done with Star Wars aside from getting John Williams to score some of their films. And I thought Carrie Fisher's performance in The Force Awakens was a complete and total disaster.

That said, I'm not happy she died or anything, but it certainly hasn't changed my mind about things.

Carrie Fisher's passing is very sad, but has nothing to do with opinions on Star Wars Land. If you're against it, you're still going to be against it.

Though to get back on topic I do wonder, for the people who are stringently against it -- can you see any positives about SWL at all? Or is it all terrible?

Autotopia will never close. It's a true Disneyland classic since the opening of the park.

I respect insiders, but things can change, and they have changed. Disney getting rid of he Canoes isn't far-fetched, so until I see people rowing on the RoA, I'll keep my hopes low.

Regarding Autopia, people have been saying they're on he chopping block for years. Doubt that's happening anytime soon, given the fact the recent work the attractions has gotten.

...can you see any positives about SWL at all? Or is it all terrible?

Besides it being yet another single IP-based land, SWL in general doesn't completely bother me. The fact that it is being placed in Disneyland is the thing that greatly bothers me.

Do I find anything positive about SWL in Disneyland? Nope. I loathe the idea, and I said earlier in this thread, I will not step foot in it on my own. If I'm asked to take my nephews to the park and they want to see it, I won't deny them the opportunity, but other than that, I'll be absent from it.

We all know this is bogus and not for certain.

That seems a bit extreme.

But nevertheless my thoughts on it are...it could probably be placed in a better location. In fact the Avatar discussion showed me that is a much better placement than SWL. With that said though, I can't view 2 E-tickets as a complete negative. Nor an immersive land. I just can't. Gotta count my blessings there.

Also I feel like nostalgia plays a part in perception. Mickey's Toontown Fair is essentially an entire land based on a collection of cartoon IPs. However I don't complain about Toontown being an IP land because I grew up with it. SWL is a collection of Star Wars characters and as a bonus is an original setting that's unique from the films. If I can accept Toontown, I should be able to accept SWL. Again, I'd prefer it in a movie park or an adventure style park, but it does look very cool and I'm excited to see it.

Toontown is not like SWL. Not to me at least.

I don't see how it's extreme. When one is not interested in something, they don't partake in it, no? I will be doing the same thing. These two E-tickets the land will acquire mean nothing to me, as I feel they shouldn't be there. I'm not the type of fan that will get excited over any E-ticket, no matter where it goes and what it's themed to.

I have a friend who's a mega Walt Disney and Disneyland fan. He'd rather see Disneyland shut down as a theme park and re-open as a museum than see it continue to go down the road it's going. I'm not extreme.

I'm glad you're looking forward to it. If you're truly interested, you should give it a shot. If anything, people should be happy, I will be one less person crowding up the area.

As you said before the concept of Star Wars Land doesn't completely bother you. It's the location of it you don't agree with. So to not even give it a chance to me does seem a bit extreme. You can agree to disagree, but giving an example of someone who is even more extreme doesn't negate my opinion on it being a bit extreme to not even give it a chance.

It's hard to discuss when when people aren't even willing to see the other side.

I don't want to see an entire land dedicated to Star Wars in Disneyland, therefore I'm not going to visit it. It's not extreme to me, but you're free to think whatever of me.

I see the other side and it's not hard to see why people are for this idea. Not hard at all, I don't need an explanation. It's obvious.

Maybe look at it this way; why would Disney NOT bring them back? The river is being re-done, TSI will re-open, the Mark Twain and Columbia will be sailing, the train will be going by, and the canoe dock is still there. Why not bring the canoes out of storage and let the guest paddle as before? It isn't like Disney has build something new and it's one more thing to absorb crowds when it gets even more crowded when SWL opens.

I can think of a few reasons, but I'm trying to be positive.

Would it be such a shock of Disney were to retire the Canoes? I don't think so.

I'm looking forward to seeing them on the water again.

Exactly. Things can always change, but the fact that they are going out of their way to preserve the dock and posted on the resort's website that the Canoes will reopen next year proves that Disney intends to bring them back.
