I remember the living seas was never really my favorite place to go in epcot, I always thought when I was younger, I can go to an "aquarium" back home in boston, why should I go to one in florida. But it has been a while since Ive been in there and it would feel good to go back to the seas on my next trip!

oh what a waste of time that attration was. I wanted a refund for the time I wasted by going through it. :brick:
I love Poseidon's Fury, what a great walk through attraction. The tunnel is the best. But that's just my opinion.

I do some work at aquariums. I know the aquarium in Osaka, Japan has an exhibit tank that has two whale sharks in it. Here's the link, with a pic on the site..
http://www.tourism.city.osaka.jp/en/enjoy_osaka/attractions/water/attraction/kaiyukan/

I remember hearing that this was actually the largest single aquarium tank in the world, but I haven't substantiated that. The main tank (they have 15 tanks) holds 5,400 tons of water. Wikipedia says it's the largest, but I really don't know.

Maybe someone can find confirmation of this.

Anyway, thanks for the news on TLS!

Someone help me out ...

The Living Seas pavillion isnt nearly as big as the Land, or Horizons for that matter once you subtract the tank itself. Is there enough room in the Living Seas to put an omnimover that lasts more than 30 seconds? I just dont understand where they are going to fit a decent omnimover ride in a pavillion dominated by large tanks and existing walkways/exhibits.

For what it's worth -- Atlanta's whale sharks are named Ralph and Norton (a la Honeymooners). Even if the tank is bigger, it won't be nearly as magical. :king:

It just moves VERY VERY slowly.

The original seacab ride was very short but much of the "ride" portion was through the tank itself. You got off the hydrolator and boarded the seacab shuttle. The Hydrolator took guests down 40 fathoms to SeaBase Alpha's level, then the seacab took guests through a connecting tube in the open ocean to the entry area of SeaBase Alpha, complete with windows out into the ocean envrionment.

If you've been to the current SeaBase Alpha, the round observation room in the center of the main tank is actually the second story of where the seacab dropped you off.

The prevailing guess is that the extra track being added in the old preshow theater area would provide the illusion that you are going into the sea, the way the hydrolators and seacabs used too. The Seacabs were never the big attaction at the Living Seas, it was just part of the themeing to "transport" you to the underwater environment.

Someone check my math.
5400 tons is 10,800,000 lbs of water
Since "A pint's a pound the world around" that's 10,800,000 pints of water
8 pints to a gallon...
Their main tank is only 1.35 million gallons?

Thanks for the great news!!

I am so excited. At first, I found out that The Living Seas was being closed for renovation until November. And then I found out that I will be at WDW while The Living Seas opens back up. And now, it's pretty much confirmed that the Seacabs will be back! I haven't been on the seacabs since I was a little baby, and this news is amazing to me. This will make my next trip so much better.

Please don't take this as confirmation of any kind. The information was posted by an unknown poster, and therefore an unreliable source. Treat it as rumor only, that way you won't be disappointed.

A quick overview of the LS's space... from space!

seasspace.jpg

Now, we all know the entrance is the curvey-swoosh thing and the exit is the tree path (or atleast i hope you remembered that)

The big circle is the main tank it is entirety.

The "L" shaped area on the main tank on the monorail side of the buidling is the coral reef restaurant.

The black spot on the roof on the left side marks the rough area of the Diver Lock-out chamber.

The raised roof area just past the entrance, sorta resembles a W, is home to Pre-show, Theater 1 (The Seas film), and the queue.

The monorail/right side line of the raised roof section if continued into the main tank, then turned 90 degrees to face directly toward the lockout chamber (just draw and intersect the two lines), is the path of the ride through the tank. It then went behind the giftshop along the side wall of the tank and back to the load area.

The observation deck is also where those two points meet - not in the middle of the tank, but rather offset slightly. The walkway on the second floor to the observation deck is directly inline with the lockout chamber.

Pre-show theater 2 is actually right next to the exit. It's behind the wall that had the big plexi-glass "Thank You For Visitting" with waves sign.

So, if you can map it out in your head, they've got tons of space to work with.

I just want them to use the circular (actually very oval!) pre-show screen for something other than a boring countdown clock.

If it can't rain anymore - we'd better get a ride ;)

That is a nifty little gadget. Kind of like a quasi-CircleVision 360 theater.

I would love it if the SeaCabs came back. I have an EXTREMELY faint memory of them, in which I am riding on it and I see a sea turtle in the tank.

But that's it.
