I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority here, but, here goes.
The visuals, combined with the music that was used, was definitely impressive. If you base HEA solely on that, it's definitely a win.
Having said that-did this show immediately give me that emotional connection that I had with Wishes? Nope. Now, having seen it just once, and not in person, I can't pass full judgement on that aspect until about 9:30 pm on October 30 of this year :) TBH, I don't think HEA will ever measure up to Wishes in that way for me, as the first time I saw Wishes was the night I first went to WDW with my DD, and that is a memory that will always be attached to it. Overall, this may be a "wait and see" for me.

One thing I had a chuckle while rewatching.. During the pan and scan of the entire Hub of MK there was only one person wearing a Made with Magic/Glow with the show pair of ears..Wondering if they did sync to the show or drop this idea entirely?

I saw a video with a Made with Magic ears and it did sync with the show. It nicely went dark for significant periods and then flared on with the correct colors to match the castle and fireworks.

I thought the show was great. Can't wait to see it in person. Unfortunately this looks so amazing the "special" party fireworks for MNSSHP and MVMCP are going to look quaint by comparison even with the perimeters.

Indeed. I considered the party night fireworks to be better than Wishes. I'm helping a family with their plans and they have just four nights and I was debating with myself whether to tell them to give up a regular MK night for the Halloween party (cost is a bit of an issue for them). But now I can tell them to skip the party with a clear conscience.

I encourage that those who feel this show does not give them the emotional connection they had with Wishes to try and remember that you probably didn't have that connection with Wishes on your first watching either. For most people that connection developed over time as you grew up with it and saw the show regularly, became comfortable and familiar with it and/or something special happened to you connected with it. Whether it was a marriage proposal, or first time seeing it with your kids, etc.. Those moments are part of what made Wishes so special for so many.

Having seen it in person last night, I encourage you to keep those memories of Wishes close, but do not let them prevent you from welcoming this show into your heart. Don't compare it to Wishes because it's a complete different style of show developed in a different era. Look at this show for what it is and how well it executes on it's intended purpose and I believe you will really come to love it even more. I believe as people get comfortable with the full experience (video does not do it justice) and the scale of the show with the amazing array of characters that appear there is something there for absolutely everyone.

Also, I am really, really, really glad they did the hub expansion a few years ago because this show really needs to be seen from the hub or MSUSA to be totally experienced.

Sorry if I missed this upthread somewhere, but does anyone have a read on how this looks from outside the park (i.e., Cali Grill deck, Poly beach)? My big concern is that even with a marked increase in pyro volume, missing out on the castle projection show significantly limits the impact of the experience, which wasn't a concern when viewing Wishes from afar.

Just watched it. Incredible. Love that Hunchback gets a whole scene. Biggest, worrisome omition? All golden era films and songs. Nothing from Snow White, Pinocchio, dumbo, Bambi, Alice... very odd. I think the show should have ended with when you wish upon a star because really, what more do you want from Disney than to hear that song in a grand way. Thematically doesn't fit I suppose, but man, nothing from the old movies was represented that I saw.

While not all in music, some of the 'classic' characters I saw include Snow White, Dopey, Cinderella, Pinocchio, Baloo, Peter Pan. I'm sure there were more but I've only seen the show once so far.

Previously, when you saw Wishes from outside the park, you saw fireworks and in a few select places, hear the music.

Now, when you see HEA from outside the park, you see fireworks and in a few select places, hear the music.

So... nothing's changed except that HEA has more fireworks and is longer.

As an aside: It would be great if Disney had a low power radio station that broadcast the music in sync with the fireworks. It would not only be a boon for those seeing the FW from far off, but would be a big help for the hearing impaired... and for anyone who wants to drown out other noises, like the big bangs or guests whooping it up... or loudly Skyping on speaker phone showing their loved ones back home the FW.

Golden age is featured in the other projection show, Once Upon a Time. Even at 19 minutes, HEA couldn't cover the entire Disney IP spectrum.

Are they going to make holiday versions of Happily Ever After?

If they are, then not for this year. It would take months of work and we would have heard about it.

But I would imagine they should be thinking about adding projections to the party-night FWs. Previously, they were on par or better than Wishes. But HEA jumped way ahead of them. If Disney wants to justify the upcharge, then they should be looking to upgrade the party-night FWs!

In this video:
Alice is on the new turret during Go The Distance. The more I watch this, the more I love it! I think either MK kept the Castle Dream Lights Strobes on or got new ones on the castle and the new turrets!

Wonderful show. I makes me wonder if Disneyland CA will consider modifying its castle - ala Hong Kong - to allow for a new canvas for projection mapping shows such as Happily Ever After. Or would modifying the DL castle be off-limits due to it being Walt's original?
In my, perhaps wrong, opinion..: I tend to think that Walt, inventor of the multi-plane camera, would love projection shows.

But given the smaller "canvas" it may not be practical to have a projection show. I wonder if They could also project onto Matterhorn?

Considering Wishes' finale was a grand version of that song, using it in Happily Ever After would be boring and predictable. Glad they tossed it to the side.
Yeah I think I agree with ya. I still think some of the OLD Disney could have been represented in the music. It's my only gripe. The show is fantastic and it did use renaissance era songs wonderfully.

The best thing is it doesn't have to replace your memories or feelings toward Wishes, now you can create new memories with this show :)
