Wishes replacement

Thanks, Martin.

Wishes is beautiful. A friend just told me, "I could totally see a mom, sick of Disney, sick of her kids, hating all of it, ready to pack up and go home...then seeing that and saying, 'Okay, this is worth it. It's all wonderful,' and be ready for more. That's hands down the best fireworks show I ever saw."

She is NOT a Disney fan. Well, she wasn't. Wishes has her re-thinking all that. She's already told her husband he has to come and see it. She'll go home and tell her friends and co-workers.

That is what I'm always talking about with Disney. They need that - people going home and gushing. That's what makes others really want to come.

If they dumb down Wishes and make it a CTM with some fireworks, it won't have the same effect. They really don't get the whole thing with people going to experience what their friends, co-workers, other moms at the PTA fundraiser tell them. It's so important.

When people hear, "I can't even tell you how...amazing it is. You really have to see it, but..." and then go on gushing and trying to explain, that's a huge vacation ad. They say you can't buy that kind of advertising, but you can. You buy it every day when you pay the bills for singers, dancers, fireworks, etc.

All Disney wants these days is to see how much they can cheapen the experience, it seems. People don't gush over cheap. Others don't feel like they have GOT to see and do the cheapened experience.

They should keep Wishes.

But Dreams is 10x that of Wishes IMHO...:cautious:...

I would love to see a fireworks show that celebrates WDW's E-Tickets similar to DL's Remember...Dreams Come True. Hell, if they REALLY wanted to be cheap they could probably just import 'Remember' to Florida and only have to make a few changes, since Magic Kingdom shares many of the same attractions featured in the show. Just switch out the Indiana Jones segment for another E-ticket (say, Horizons?), change the Julie Andrews narration, keep the hub perimeter pyro for the Haunted Mansion and Star Tours segments, and there you go. A whole 'new' fireworks show for the Magic Kingdom!

However, I'd prefer for them to come up with an entirely new show...

Dreams is a fantastic multimedia show. Wishes is a great fireworks show. I'd hate the MK to loose more pyro at the expense of other tech. Give RoE and Fant the upgrades they so desperately need.

Dreams has pyro though Martin - but the reason I personally prefer Dreams is that feels like a Spectacular - Wishes just feels flat.

Oh indeed it does. And its very nice. Who else blows up their castle every night?

But "only" the inpark launched and quiet variety. Not the huge shells used at the MK. The MK needs to have the quintessential 'Disney' fireworks show in the sky above the castle.

I don't disagree there needs to be fireworks in the MK, I just disagree on the implementation to make a MK Spectacular needs to be 100% firework only display.

Oh it would be nice. Some of the proposals sounded awesome. But I'd hate to see them implemented at the expense of high level pyro or reduction of rooftop pyro, which is what some higher up at TDO were pushing for.

Dreams is a mixture of the story, technique and technology of all the American parks night shows all in one park. WDW has the luxury of being able to offer a unique show in three of its parks. It doesn't need to cram everything into one show. Nor does it need to steal some of the "surprises" from other parks into the MK.

But I'm not adverse to a little plussing.

Well said!

DLP's Dreams is awesome. But WDW can really make its size count here, and have a different show in every park. The quintessential fireworks over the castle in the MK, the fireworks + theatrics of F!, and Illuminations.

These shows do not need replacements, but plussing and tech upgrades.

The problem I have with Wishes is it an audio clip show and a bad one at that. Maybe just maybe they should invest in some "new" surprises ;) - whilst they are on could the please kill Fantasmic at DHS and make a "new" night time spectacular for that park... Illuminations that just needs plussing for me.

Dreams is the reason we will not be watching Wishes later on in the year. It's just Meh compared to Paris. My 7 year old refused to go to the local firework display on Bonfire night as "it's not Disney". After seeing Dreams a good few times she now doesn't want to see just fireworks as "it's not Paris" lol. I get what she is saying. We won't watch Illuminations either after watching it in 2012. What happened to all the countries lighting up, building to a fantastic fast-paced display. RoE just never got off the starting line for me.
Just my 2 pennies :)

Wishes is still a great show, and after ten years of watching it, I'm still not bored of it. Most people in their lives usually understand that when there is something good, you DON'T change it. Sure, I'm up for a variety, like for example they had multiple different shows that play throughout different times of the year, I would be okay with that. I really wish they could have done that with Spectro. Run Spectro six months and MSEP the next six months. But I guess unlike their advertising, not ALL wishes can come true.
