Wishes replacement

I used to love Wishes but I've seen it so many times now that it's really just something I watch because other people in my group want to see it. Plus I've seen Remember (and Magical) in person and it just wowed me. Once I saw that, Wishes kind of lost it's thunder.

Now Illuminations I think is fine except for that middle section. If they updated the tech, fountains and pacing in that portion of the show it would be aces.

But I've always wondered if they'll tone down the next fireworks show as there are now more crowds behind the castle due to NFL than there were previously. When it hit me, I was by the backside of the carousel and it was fairly empty.
That area is quite prone to fallout. And crowds, even before NFL. Not enough to change things. I've been hit in the hub in the past, and on Showcase prom from RoE. Its part of having fireworks and wind. What is causing concern is fallout on the nice and pretty landscaping of the NFL buildings.

You mean they don't what to do maintenance to keep the area nice and pretty? Why can't World fans run Phil Holmes out of town.

That always worries me. When there is a lot more to it than pyro, it gives a great reason to reduce the pyro, and then we end up with projections. They may be on water, castle walls, or who knows what, but they are still projections and don't have the impact of fireworks - at least for me.

Also, Projections limit the venues that can view the show. Wishes music is pumped into the rooms of all of the resorts with a view of the MK and throughout the entire park... so, unless you are front and center with the castle.... projections will be difficult to see elsewhere. Thus diminishing the grandeur of the evening show.

Will the hub construction this year also include upgrades/installations for the Wishes replacement? It would be the best time to do that if they are going to have areas closed off anyway.

I love wishes, but I have seen it a lot now and I don't even go that often, same with RoE think its time for at least an update or overhaul last time we went we skipped MK fireworks!

You heard right. It is a Steve Davison joint and will likely debut in late 2015 or early 2016 and be a whole lot more than just pyro.

That always worries me. When there is a lot more to it than pyro, it gives a great reason to reduce the pyro, and then we end up with projections. They may be on water, castle walls, or who knows what, but they are still projections and don't have the impact of fireworks - at least for me.

That, and given the increasingly huge crowds descending on the hub for the fireworks every night, I would think Disney would try to put in some effort to make the show less hub-centric. Shows with big, high-flying pyro can be viewed from more areas in the park, and MK cast can inform guests of alternate viewing areas as a means of trying to reduce hub congestion. Shows reliant on front-of-castle projections or with fountains in the moats will only encourage more people to insist on watching shows from the hub. Magic Kingdom can't handle the kind of strain Davison was able to put on Paradise Pier for World of Color; unlike DCA, the MK doesn't have a special fireworks viewing area that isn't also space for moving in and out of the park.

That said, a new show is more than welcome. Wishes is getting played out and IMO something with even more firepower is needed. It's interesting how in many of their fireworks shows, Disneyland is able to do more with fireworks and in longer shows despite all the Anaheim air restrictions, than Magic Kingdom is able to do with Wishes.

From what I know there's no reason to do this.

Hub hardware added for future shows has constantly been rejected.

I know I'll get flamed for this, but as far as I'm concerned, Reflections of Earth can stay at EPCOT until the world ends. All it needs is infrastructure, lighting, and other upgrades. Although I know eventually its coming, I lament the day that the beautiful score is played for the last time around World Showcase.

I feel the same way, soothes my soul and takes my breath away every time I witness it.

Just from a technical standpoint, there's no way that a fountain show like WOC could be done in World Showcase Lagoon. The entire lagoon would have to be drained in order to install the piping for the fountains as well as the water filtration system that keeps gunk and stuff from collecting on the fountains. Paradise Bay at DCA is a lot smaller than World Showcase Lagoon and is also a concrete lined man-made body of water, which allowed it to be easily drained.

Even if the lagoon could be drained, that would mean that walls would have to be put up all around the World Showcase, which would spoil the gorgeous views. It would also mean the end of the boats that crisscross the lagoon. I wouldn't mind some new show that utilizes elements from World of Color, I just don't think that a full-blown World of Color type show could be done at Epcot.

barge based pumps and fountains? re purpose the current system.

I'm sure whatever show repaces Wishes will have plenty of pyro and a similar mix of songs sung by the Disney Studio Choir. I doubt its biggest fans will lose much of what they love about it most when it goes.

Once Wishes is replaced, I think it would be cool if it took Fantasy in the Sky's place on New Year's Eve. They could add whatever upgrades the new show has to Wishes, like they did with Fantasy.
