My apologies to AllEars.Net .... very similar names.

It was MagicalEars.net i meant.... and that Bill guy i meant to rip on.

I tried magicalears.net, nothing. magicalears.com, success...

And actually, by looking at his site, it seems that Magical Ears has been giving credit when they use photos. I don't know if they're asking for permission, but I do see credit being given...

I know Bill through AIM chats that we've had here... and from that he seems nicer than he's made out to be on these forums. If you have a problem with him, you should probably E-mail or IM him personally. That's what I'd do.

Anyway, who actually HAS new Wishes photos? LOL

Pics

First of all, i think this is a good important topic, but it should have it's own thread. Are the other web sites getting money for other people pictures? If they aren't then i could care less if a web site is using my pics. I would feel kinda special. If they are getting money for the pics then they should stop, but if not, be nice and share your stuff.
P.S. Any word on a website that has has pictures of the newly decorated castle during Wishes, on this site on on a different one?

I haven't had trouble with photo theft of my Disney pics yet, but my SeaWorld photos have been stolen up the wazoo over the years. I haven't seen the photo theft complaint crop up nearly as much in Disney circles, but in the captive killer whale fandom, it's a huuuge issue. :( I'm a kind of ask-and-ye-shall-receive person when it comes to photos (unless I know the person asking and they're a jerk) but if people use my pics without permission I get a little ed off...

Someone (not sure if it was Bill or not) posted pictures taken by our members and posted on this site without permission just the other week. He was called on it by the photographer. I emailed him and received a reply.

Nah, Bill's not making money on it. I just talked to him about it... seems the ADs are done by his web host... Bill doesn't get anything. Just his webhosting company. Bill also remarked that he apologizes for the incident, and that it wasn't entirely his fault, as someone submitted most of the photos to him and said he was free to use them.

He also said to tell you that if you find your photo on there and you didn't approve of it, to e-mail him with the link to the photo and he'll add credit or remove the photo at your option.

So I don't think it's nearly as bad as PhotoDave is suggesting... though what do I know?

I believe he has only started doing that....a few weeks back I found my photos in an update at his site without any credit given to me (speck76 also had this problem).

Well i take my friends' work being ripped off almost as seriously as my own work being ripped off. I wasnt amused then and im not amused now.

Long story short, Im not posting my photos because of that sort of behavior.

I'm surprised this bothers so many people.

I understand people taking your work and not giving you credit sucks if they pass it off as their own, but when I post something I expect it to be shared.

Besides, Disney is the one who's copyright is being violated. You can't just take a bunch of pictures at WDW and publish them in a book - you don't "own" them in that sense. As the makers of every WDW guide-book besides Birnbaum.

I want to share my WDW pics - I assumed most people did. Not for "credit" but because you are sharing the magic. If some website sticks up your pictures and says "we did this", that's wrong - but the nature of the internet is that once a picture is posted anywhere it really becomes fair game.

I guess I understand some people's reluctance in posting their pics, but on the other hand you aren't going to make any money off of them any way (as you can't sell your pictures as they are of copyrighted structures), I'd simply take it as a compliment that someone thought your photo was good enough to share.

Guess we all see things differently.

Yeah, many people don't realize that just like an NFL game. Since you pay to get into the parks and pictures or video you take cannot be published without Disney's consent.

Right, I understand that. But I think it angers me more because if they're not giving credit, or at the very least mentioning that they got the pics somewhere else, they are kind of passing the photos off as their own. It just seems like common courtesy to give photo credit.

I can understand what, you know that its going to happen anyways. Its like a 1 in 5 change that someone will take your pic and pass it as there or just not give credit. This place gets thousands of hits a day, its going to happen.

Now hotlinking is a problem, and really is uncalled for.

Personally I would not mind if my stuff shows up all over the net.

I understand people being annoyed if site owners steal photos to use on their own sites in order to make their site more popular.
How strict do we have to be with posted photos? I like to save photos to use either in a folder on my PC or use as desktop wallpapers. Is this a problem and seen as stealing photos? If people really are that concerned, then I think we are in the sad situation where the only way to protect your work is to keep it completely private for your own use. I wouldn't want to see it come to this.

Like I said... you want 100% protection, don't post it. You want 80% protection, watermark it. Otherwise get used to people using your photos.

Hey there Dave, Thanks for the effort of trying to put them up so they cant be copied. I appreciate the time and effort you put into your work and to have someone just take it without asking is just wrong!!! Belle

I'm sorry you feel this way PhotoDave, but I understand it as a photographer myself. All I can say it is a sad day knowing I won't get to see anymore awesome photos taken by you! :(

Once again, a small amount of people must ruin the fun in everything.
