Winter Deals.

Anyone know when Disney starts offering their winter specials? Not just the holiday getaway, but the reduced hotel rates etc. like they do for the fall.
All the specials they're running now, like great room rates at the AK lodge seem to expire in September or October.

Yep, that's it I believe. They don't release the info until they are ready to give those types of discounts based upon what the market is doing.

And I've seen different discounts for different resorts in the past too. So if AKL is heavily booked already, they may not be so inclined to give a big discount on that resort, but we may see a large one on other resorts that have not been getting many pre-booking for that season.

For instance (this is copied for MouseSavers.com) this is what is currently out for AP discounts:

Annual Passholder rates are available for 4/21/02-9/30/02. The discount is 30% off regular rack rates at all Disney resorts (subject to availability). Value Season kicks in on 8/25/02 (7/4/02 for certain Deluxe resorts), so rack rates drop quite a bit -- and the 30% discount still applies. Approximate reported rates (rounded upward to the nearest dollar):

All Stars - $70 standard / $76 preferred ($54 standard 8/25/02-9/30/02)
Caribbean Beach, Coronado Springs or Port Orleans) - $108 standard ($93 standard 8/25/02-9/30/02)
Wilderness Lodge - $161 standard / $171 woods view / $196 courtyard view / $291 1 bdrm villa ($136 standard/$150 woods view / $172 courtyard view 8/25/02-9/30/02)
Animal Kingdom Lodge - $168 standard / $214 savannah view / $329 concierge ($143 standard / $189 savannah view 8/25/02-9/30/02)
Contemporary - $200 garden view / $252 tower / $298 tower club ($186 garden view 7/4/02-9/30/02)
Polynesian - $234 garden view / $294 lagoon view ($210 garden view / $263 lagoon view 7/4/02-9/30/02)
Beach Club/Yacht Club - $224 standard / $329 concierge ($202 standard 7/4/02-9/30/02)
Boardwalk - $224 standard ($202 standard 7/4/02-9/30/02)
Grand Floridian - $259 garden view ($231 garden view 7/4/02-9/30/02)

Notice that they do give them, but certain resorts dates change.

They also limit the amount of rooms that these discounts are available on. Lets say AKL has 58 Deluxe rooms. And the AP discount is 30% . They may only let 20 rooms go for this discount. So if your not one of those 20 people, they may not be able to offer you the rate.

I belive it's a similar system to what the airlines do. I'm using my US Air miles to fly free, and they only have like 10 seats on a plane available to these types of tickets. We could get on the plane and find out there are still 100 open, unsold seats, but only a maximum of 10 seats could have been for frequent flyer miles travellers.

I actually ran into this problem, in that the only open flight back was a 7AM flight, I usally like to fly home late on the last day to enjoy the parks a bit more, but I just couldn't get any seats on any other flights that day using my miles. Kinda sucks.

PS - I have not heard back from my TA yet .. but all my fellow "Disney Addicts" agree that codes usually specify "For check ins through .. such and such." So, as long as you check in before the code ends, you will get the rate your entire stay.

Yep, that's exacly what I've heard, read, seen, and used in the past.

Excellent information. Thank you both. So then the next step would be to find out the AP rates as soon as they are released. Without stealing anyone's secret sources, where's a good place to do that (other than calling reservations every day)? I noticed one site mentioned, mousesavers.com. To they post the info right away?

Thanks again!!!:)

Yes, Mousesavers should have them fairly quickly. I'm sure as other people know, info like that will be posted hear, and on other WDW sites as well.

The official places to get the info are the reservation phone numbers, and they are published in the Mickey Monitor, a quarterly publication for AP holders. But since I haven't actually bought my AP yet...I'm just going to keep calling and keep an eye out on MouseSavers.com. :)

Everyone should know the info within 24 hours of Disney releasing it, but I'll post them here if noone else hasn't when they are published.

Of course I'll be on the phone to Disney first before I post them...the better half would kill me if I couldn't get that discount. :hammer:

OK, new codes are out at MouseSavers.com. These are not the AP discounts, but are better! :)

I just called and got 40% off the concierge rooms at AKL for Oct. Now MouseSavers said for I shouldn't have got that for the regular season, only value, but they gave it to me anyways. So call in and ask for them, cos' they are giving them out!

Unless the AP come out with better than 40% discounts, which I doubt they will be higher than 30%, this seems like a great way to save cash.

I just saved $1484 on the rack rate for our stay by using this code, and $390 over the assumed AP rates. You can get the Ultimate Hoppers using a different code and the cost was just $12 more than two APs. If you go to Pleasure Island once on your trip, it pays for itself (unless you visit WDW more than once a year of course).

You can add Discovery Magic package too. :)

Have fun!

I've talked to a few Disney reps, and they all said that there should be AP discounts, and most were surprised they haven't released the numbers yet.

I just keep checking in once a week. I'll start getting nerviuos if I don't see any by September 1st.

You can always book the room now to make sure that they have a room available at the discount rate and then when the new code comes out call back with the new code and change. I learned that from Disney Club reservations last year.

We booked our rooms at the W Lodge last night!!
Horray!
Although I have to say I'm a bit nervous. We've only stayed at C Beach, Dixie, or the All-star, so this will be a bit of a change for us.
Thanks for all the help along the way!!

Yep, I've rebooked this trip three times now, each time with a better price. What's one more time. :)
