Winter Deals.

Anyone know when Disney starts offering their winter specials? Not just the holiday getaway, but the reduced hotel rates etc. like they do for the fall.
All the specials they're running now, like great room rates at the AK lodge seem to expire in September or October.

At least some Disney Club rooms are still available. We just booked POFQ for Thanksgiving. It worked out to $106/night + tax. This isn't the best rate I've ever seen but it's a whole lot better than rack rate. If something better comes up, we'll swithch, but at least we have a room booked.

Meega, nala kwishta!
Just called Disney again today about AP discounts. They told me that the should be published before the end of July, Aug 1st at the latest.

Hope she was correct... :(

I think I'll take the "book it and change it later" approach. Does anyone know what happens with your deposit if you do that? Do they just transfer it to the new room?

That's what Disney did with me last December. I assume that this is the standard policy since Disney lets you cancel up until (I think) 30 days before arrival without penalty. It amounts to a cancel followed by a new reservation.

Now that I think about it, my last trip didn't exactly work this way. Everything worked the way I said for one of my ressies, but for the other one (called in at a different time) they took another deposit and refunded my original deposit.

It seems to depend upon the talents of the phone-based CM.

I was told I could cancel up to 5 days before my arrival time with no charge.

When the AP discounts come out, I was told just to call in, tell them that I wanted the AP rate, and they will cancel the reservation, and then re-book it again under the new rate.

Getting the room early was to make sure that I got the room for that time period (their are like only 58 rooms available or something like that).

I wouldn't wait around once the discount rates are announced either. I've read at several sites that there are only a limited amount of rooms that they will allow to book at the AP rates for a given time period. That would be bad if I missed out cos' I waited to call. :zipit:

Waiting to give Disney all my cash....

Where did you find out about AKL Oct special rates? WE are not AP pass holders but do have AAA . WE are planning to go in Oct or Nov whichever offered better rates - have been checking mousesvers but may have missed something. At this point we were thinking 5 nights as ASM and 2-3 at AKL depending on prices.

Does anyone think joining DC could help - I thought it looked as though AAA had similar deals????

Wow .... I wanted to give you some hope here.

Last year there were pretty darn good rates out up until right before Christmas. In fact, there have been codes for almost 2 years straight, with only a few breaks, discounts vary of course.

I remember last holiday seasons discounts well because we were very tempted to go.

Also, keep in mind if you have a code that ends on say 12/20 and you check in 12/20 ... you should get that rate your ENTIRE stay!
My TA told me this and she specializes in Disney Vacations. (This is when we were contemplating going over the holidays.)

Now, maybe there were such good rates due to 9/11 last year. And, don't think you will see the low, low rates they have for September out .. but I bet they will have some type of code.

Here is to hoping.

You wont get the discount the entire stay. You will only get the first night at the discounted rate. I wish it was the other way around.

I will have to talk to my TA about that. Maybe I misunderstood her. But I remember asking her "If I check in before 0/0/00 does that mean I get that rate the entire stay" and she said "Yes".

Maybe she misunderstood my question.

I will ask her again as if she confirms it .. I know it to be true.

I have no doubt of that .... but I also know that sometimes CRO has thier head in a hole. (I could spew off examples, but that would bore you.)

Your statement could be right.... I'm going to check with my TA.

I'll let you know.

I was told by a CRO cast member that the rate for my entire stay was based on my date of check in. So if you check in during a discount period, but stay into the regular or peak season, you would still get the entire stay at the discounted rate.

From what I've heard, I belive that is true. If you start at one season rate or discount rate, you get that rate for the entire stay.

That can work against you too. If the rate drops durning your stay, they don't just give you the discounted rate either. To get that, you actually have to split your stay and check out and check back in under the new lower discount.

I've read this is very common though and Disney will try to even accomidate the guest by trying to keep the same room, but sometime you'll have to move to a new room. :)

Funny that there's two different opinions on this. I remember from my first trip that I got two different answers to a similar question. It must depend on who you get at reservations. I assume once you get down to actually entering dates in the computer, the system would do the correct thing, but just to ask a CM, they may or may not have the correct answer off the top of their heads. I'm curious to see how this plays out though.

I want to make sure I understand the AP thing. They offer discounted rates, but they only post so many at a time? I guess I'm not sure why we would have to wait. I'm familiar with the limited number of rooms (that kind of stinks, but I can understand why they do it). But I guess I don't get the timing and the pricing thing. If you have a minute, would you mind explaining? Thanks!!

You didn't ask me this question, but I think I can help if you don't mind :-)

If I understand what you are asking ...

AP rates are only released for a few months at a time. They do not release them for the entire year all at once. Normally AP rates come out before any codes open to the general public for the same time period.

I think that Disney does not realease AP rates for the entire year because how good of a rate they offer may have much to do with how thier bookings look for that time period. If it's looking good.... the discounts may not be a steep, if the hotels are empty ... they will roll out the discounts.

I hope this helps.

Good luck

PS - I have not heard back from my TA yet .. but all my fellow "Disney Addicts" agree that codes usually specify "For check ins through .. such and such." So, as long as you check in before the code ends, you will get the rate your entire stay.
