Wine and Dine Half-Marathon

I was thinking of cabbing it to get the race packet on Friday when I get there.

I was leery about taking a cab to the race because of traffic.

I wonder how much a cab would be from PORS to and back from WWoS that Friday? Id pay to make it fast instead of wasting all that time changing buses.

Yep, Im excited that Saturday afternoon I can ride a direct shot to the WWoS. If race time is at 10, I wonder what time Disney will want us there... and what time I could actually be there. I would like to get there no earlier the 8. I wouldnt mind if I could get there around 8:30-9, but I know how they are about getting the racers inline.

I can't wait for this race, but I'm bummed about the "party". I told my wife and son that I'll have to meet them back at the hotel, I'm not paying for them to go to EPCOT with no attractions, that's just a waste.

I hope Disney learns from this, hopefully they are reading this forum.

You never know.....

Frank

Totally agree with you Frank.

Yep, my wife, daughter and mother will be waiting for my dad and I back at the resort, too. No way are they paying that price for...well...nothing.
Same here guys. It is a shame. Sam wanted to come and leave Isabeau back at the resort with my parents, but I think she would rather sleep than pay that for nothing.

EDIT: Post from other thread: How much fun would it be if all us wdwmagic runners that are participating in the W&D got tech shirts with the wdwmagic logo printed on the front. That way, we could identify each other and represent our favorite site.

I would be up for that!
With just a little research, I found that each tech shirt would end up being around $30.

If someone was in the business and could get the shirt and printing at cost to bring that down to $15 a piece, Id be game, but with all the money Im already spending, I can tell you that team Maxwell wont go for that financially.

My cousin is friends with a company that makes shirts, and we have gotten pretty good discounts on the custom shirts we made. They even made the running tech shirts my family(30 people) wore for the 2010 Marathon.

This is getting interesting.

Can you inquire about the lightest tech fabric they have and a 1 color imprint area would be roughly for an estimate of 25 shirts. I bet we could get about that many commitments from this site. Feel free to PM me too.

Put me down for one as well.

And to bring the topic around. My two best friends want to be at the finish to cheer and then go to the party. I am trying to tell them they will be disappointed and I really would understand if they are not there, but they still want to go.

I own a small shirt printing shop. I can make the same champion brand tech shirts that Disney gives out for the races. Price depends on quantity. If we only print ten, then I could do them for a bare minimum of about $20 per shirt. That's without shipping, so then you're talking about $25-ish total. The tech shirts are generally about $10 - $12 more expensive for printers to get than t-shirts.

If we have the commitment I'd be happy to make them.

I had completely forgotten about your operation. Eeek. Sorry about that. I would think that we would need to start a survey of how many runners we do have, and who would be willing to commit.

Zach, let me check with a resource I have to see if those shorts could be bought for any cheaper than $10-$12. The are a wholesaler and get that pricing. Even if it cut it down $2-$3 a piece, that would help. If we made a custom front (between you and I) and then the wdwmagic.com logo on the back, I wonder if Steve would pick up the $3-$4 a shirt to cover that advertising.

Lastly, if you were going to print them for everyone, I wouldnt want to place all the responsibility on you, BUT, it might be easier to handle the orders like you do your other Disney shirts. Ill check tomorrow on the price when things open back up.

Runners, please PM me if you are participating in this race and would like to participate in the tech shirt idea.

Only 87 days left! Getting excited, the days are going to fly by. I made our ressie for All Star Sports last week, the AP rates came out, saved a bunch.

When do you think Disney will release a pic of the medal? Soon I hope.

I want an official route map. I have read the description, but I like to study the exact course so mentally, I know what is coming up. Typically, this is for more terrain courses and not flat course in Florida. :D

What is the best way to get over the WWoS?

Any ideas

I am staying at AKL which is not a race participating resort.

Would talking a bus over to a participating resort be the best bet ?

Thanks

-dave

It's a toss up. You can take a bus over to a particpating resort via a park or DTD, and then the bus over to the start from there. Not a big problem, just will take a bit for the transfers. However, getting back could be tougher. Not knowing how long you will take to finish, there is a chance that you won't be able to get back the same way.
DHS is the last park open, and they are only open til 11 via EMH. Allowing for the 2 hours or so of buses after closing means the last bus would leave there at 1. In theory, if you finish in 2 hours, and then walk out the international gateway back to DHS (the way you just ran) you may be able to catch a bus back to your resort.
DTD may be open til midnight, so those buses would stop about 1 am would be my guess. To go that way you would need to hoof it to the nearest resort for a bus, or take one of the buses to a particpating resort, and then transfer from there to DTD, and then from there back to AKL. That may be a bit of stretch to make all those transfers in time.
Otherwise you may need to call a cab. From Epcot, or one of the host resorts. Or maybe luck out and find someone who has a car and is willing to drive you back to AKL.

If you are at PORQ, just walk to POFQ. It's not a bad walk. Catch the bus from there. No need to change buses all over the place.

If they are providing trans that Friday to get your race packet then yes, that would be the easiest route to take. I hope they do from POFQ

I would think that if they are having the after party there would be bussed from that. But maybe they may only be running to host resorts.

This is starting to become a pain in the rear. :)

On the coming from a non-host hotel front, We're staying at Shades of Green, but we always rent a car, so we'll leave the car at Epcot earlier in the day, walk down to Poly to get to the race start and then have the car when we finish so we don't have to worry about no busses.

On the shirt front - the group at runningoftheears.com we meet up with does shirts & we run with them, so I hope we can all get-a-long if I call out hey WDWMagic! when we come across each other during the race:wave:! We usually do some gatherings at the races as well...here's our gathering during Marathon Weekend 2010.

Setting up a an eBay item is a good way to do it, but we would need to wait until we get a decent commitment to do that. If we get ten or more, let me know and I can get the ball rolling.
