Wine and Dine Half-Marathon

Don't know if it is this way for every race, but at the 2009 WDW marathon and Disneyland half races they made a BIG deal about printing your waiver before hand and bringing it with you. I wouldn't count on them having waivers available. I'm sure they have a system for "just in case," but with those lines I sure wouldn't want to have to use it!

I've taken part in four Disney races in the last year and they had waivers available at all of them. They were at the package pick-up.

Yeah, same for me. Absolutely no way Disney would rely on the runners to bring them along. Talk about a nightmare.
I guess Ill try and get over to DWWoS during nap time on that Friday. Luckily, my father is renting a car since they are heading down a day earlier. It would take way too long to rely on WDW bus transit to get me from PORS to there and back.

Im getting excited already. I have been training without my ipod lately to see if there is a huge difference. I also want to see know what it is like to not have my music playing and motivating me in the event that something happens and you dont have it one day. I already keep a log of all my runs (time, distance, route) and recently I added w/wo ipod.

Me = Dork. :D

At the Marathon Weekend in January, they didn't have blank forms, but rather had stations where you could print out your forms. Prior event they did have blank forms, but its much faster if you bring it with you.

Printing it would be ok, but not having a backup and relying on people to be responsible would be a ridiculous mess. I haven't been to a marathon weekend yet, and I know the Disney races I've been to have a LOT less people, so the process is different, no doubt.

Hey jmaxwell007 and blueliner! I live in Birmingham also and am thinking of signing up for the wine and dine 1/2 marathon.

Does anyone know the actual dollar amounts for the discounts on room and tickets with race registration? I would like to see if it is significant.

Hey Matt,
I dont know the $$$ amount since I had already booked for PORS.

PM when you can. Im curious what part of the Ham you live in and what routes you like to run in the city (depending on location obviously).

Interesting. I just ran into this: Headphones are discouraged due to audio messages that are placed throughout the course to ensure your safety.

Has anyone been told to take them off or remove them during a race?

Every race, you can find something in writing saying headphones are not allowed. What you found is better than usual because the headphones are merely discouraged. I have yet to see anyone try to enforce that rule anywhere, certainly not at any Disney races! :D

Thanks Doug. I am training w and w/o them right now. I dont want to rely on them for motivation etc in the event that they weren't there one day.

I will say that I am finding it hard to want to use them due to all the streetmosphere that I think will be on the course. I guess in downtime (IE: the Osceola Parkway ) I can play things, but in the parks, I might turn things off.

Also, Im wondering how long till the official course map will be posted. I read the description, but I like to see the actual course on a map. :D

I always pull the earbuds when I run through the parks or when going past a band or the praise choir. . . but the rest of the time, the songs are pretty motivational! :D

It was a USATF rule for a bit that they were not allowed, but now it's up to the race directors...however stay aware, running a 1/2 last fall with limited traffic control, this guy running a few feet to my left had them so loud he couldn't hear a car behind him who kept tooting for him to move over as he drove around us, until I got his attention.:hammer:

Most of those here already have a training plan. But, a friend found this and sent it to me a couple weeks ago. It's a plan for the 2009 Disney Half

Week 3 starts Monday :)

What is the best way to get over the WWoS?

Any ideas

I am staying at AKL which is not a race participating resort.

Would talking a bus over to a participating resort be the best bet ?

Thanks

Probably so... Ill be at the PORS staying and POFQ is one as you probably know. I might see you there.

I wish the resort you are staying at would be able to get your registration and race pack for you. I really really dont want to take time out of my vacation to have to go across property on 3 different buses just to get it, and then return the same way. That will take 2 hours!

I was thinking of cabbing it to get the race packet on Friday when I get there.

I was leery about taking a cab to the race because of traffic.
