The problem is, you can't just produce an unlimited amount of something like this.I think the concept and novelty of a shoulder-puppet is fun. I love seeing the baby dragons at Ren Faires and I think they are super marketable. The problem is that Disney has been underestimating how popular things are getting. First merchandise from a brand new expansion? It was going to sell out and they should have known better. Plus, as added before, scalpers. They go in and grab as many as the can and mark them up online.
I'm not really an Avatar fan (it's the same story as Fern Gully, Dances With Wolves and Pocahontas) BUT I do think that Disney was the right company to give us a visual aesthetic that matches a completely CG environment. We just need to get marketing and product development on the same page. They underestimated the appeal of cute-but-silly should companions.
Disney knew exactly what there were doing regarding the small inventory of banshees.
That sounds like a place I never want to visit. Hopefully they don't get the idea for an entire land-sized litter box, despite how much the Na'vi look like cats. What's next, the Ewok Dung Forest in Animal Kingdom?Well they do have that Na'vi poop desert...

When you haven't really opened anything else of value in a dozen or more years, of course people will flock to it in droves. Remember poop candy? Disney was even able to find a way to sell fake poo, and lots of people lined up to eat it.
That's how low the bar has been set.
The poop candies were a good idea, too many people are uptight. Please don't them give any ideas for "banshee poop candy" and the like in the store.

Disney is most likely contracting a company to produce these things. That factory has to set up to to run a unique item and they can only run that item for so long until they have to switch to something else as Disney is not their only customer.
Even if Disney owned the factory they are still limited by time, raw materials, labor, shipping constraints, etc.
If you could just make an many as of something as you want, there would never be a shortage of iPhones, Nintendo Systems, Tickle me Elmos, or anything else insanely popular.
You also don't want to overshoot your market. Making a million of something does you no good if you only sell 500k. Periodic shortages will keep the popularity high.
"Avatar merch will never sell" they said...*evil smirks*
I love seeing my new favorite land do well.
There is no ceremony, or they didnt do one with us. They just showed us how to use the hand control and sent us off to pay the adoption fee.Just an update on my quest to get an Ikran. I lost the other auction, but that's OK. I managed to get one for 60, including his shipping though Basically the same as if you had paid his adoption fee on Pandora in the first place. His body is blue with purple stripes all over him.
Does anyone know if I bring him into the rookery they will let me go through his adoption ceremony and bonding process (it's really, really important to me, I don't consider him to be real until I get to do that) even though I got him elsewhere?

What happened to the oath? I thought there was an oath that you took, then they showed you how to use his controls? Did they only do that for the previews?
The ceremony is off and on. I didn't get it but while I was in line others got it.There is no ceremony, or they didnt do one with us. They just showed us how to use the hand control and sent us off to pay the adoption fee.
I'm not sure it even works for Nintendo. They're losing goodwill fast. That only works if they will be back in stock in a few days. If it takes months...then they are losing money with no benefit. The whole Nintendo theory actually works against most companies, not for them.
