I've been to a few cons. Never seen Avatar cosplay. There are people that are fans of and cosplay just about anything.
Obviously the movie has people that like it. But its definitely not something on a large scale or overly popular.
So I guess no major entertainment company that runs the most popular theme park business in history would ever consider making an entire emersive experience themed after it unless they were just crazy stupid. I see where you are coming from.

Did I say anything of the sort? Did I say it was a bad idea? Did I say they shouldn't have built it? No.

All I said was that the popularity is both due to Avatar and demand for something new at WDW, and probably more of the latter.

Are you trying to somehow say that Avatar is on the level of SW, ST, Potter, Marvel, DC? Or even on the level of Blizzard games?
Whats more popular, Walking Dead or Avatar?

The only reason why people are interested is because its a land at disney world. It is like when a celebrity there music or movies become best sellers. Unfortunately, at disney world people will be sucker punched and buy anything. $40 on that crap lol. I am straight.

Its not the only reason, but its definitely part of it. If the land had opened without being tied to an IP but featured the same theming and attractions, how much different would the reception be? And there wouldn't have been 7 years of people saying it was a bad tie-in.

They're based on shoulder dragon things that have been popular at Renaissance Festivals for years.
My daughter has one of those from Midsummer Knight's Dream.

The one from Midsummer Knight's Dream is considerably better quality than the Banshees, but they also start at about 50% more so they better be.

The word "unyor" in Na'vi means a sweet smell, or can refer to a type of spice the Na'vi use. It isn't the word for Florida.

You're right. It's an etymology thing. What would be a good word for "floral" or "blossoms"? I figure you seem to know a little about Na'vi language, so what I'm trying to go for is the original Spanish translation of Florida, something like "blossoming land?" We can use "kifkey" (world), so (flowery/blossoming) world?

When you haven't really opened anything else of value in a dozen or more years, of course people will flock to it in droves. Remember poop candy? Disney was even able to find a way to sell fake poo, and lots of people lined up to eat it.

That's how low the bar has been set. :joyfull:

By all means my friend use whatever you'd like, I'm not trying to say you can't choose to use that for Florida. I just thought someone had told you that's the literal word for Florida. Syulang is the word for flower, tì'ong means blooming.

What color ikran are you hoping to get at Windtraders? One of my friends is going this week, she's really upset to hear they don't have any right now.

Normally, proper place names are not translated into a new language, otherwise, we'd be calling 'Florida' 'Flowerland.'

Oh, regarding the Na'vi, I didn't think to look up the word for flower by itself :) So, you can say something like <Syulangti'ong>, not bad!

It's no different than asking someone to spell "Tchoupitoulas" who isn't familiar with New Orleans :)

So, there's my answer, thanks :) Anyway, I don't care about his colour or his design, I just hope he's there, period. (My favourite would have to be the blue ones though) He can be bright pink, sparkly and have rainbows on him (I know there aren't any of that description, but just saying :) If that's the only one left, I would still get him :).

As for a Na'vi translation of the Disney World address

It's for those who don't want to say "Disney" or "Florida" on their voyages to Pandora.
I this is good enough to get by:

Pandora - The World of Avatar
Kelutral Mo'ara (Hometree of Mo'ara, can refer to the Tree of Life at Animal Kingdom)
'Ora Nìltsanrer (Grandview Lake/Lake Buena Vista)
Syulangti'ong (Blooming Flower/Florida)

Sorry for getting off-topic :) Oh, and I'm a RIDICULOUSLY big Avatar fan! :) For me, Avatar is like Star Wars. There might not be a lot of fans, but we're getting there! I don't have the funds or the people to make me look like a decent Na'vi, but that's OK.

I absolutely CAN NOT WAIT to finally go to Pandora for real :)

A pic I grabbed of the rookery tonight. Looks like Disney is aleady trying to trick people into buying fake Banshee. :cautious:

These are cheep cloth versions. Nit the nice rubber and plastic ones.

I'm not a merch guy, so, to me, the banshees seem a bit superfluous. They're not animatronic or interactive like a Furby. You have to manually puppeteer them. They have a limited range of motions. They look like cheap plastic. For all that, they're expensive. And on top of that, people were waiting an hour on line to buy them!
Sounds like something that would be a guaranteed hit with "merch fans"

In the pics I thought they kind of looked dragon-like. I can see the allure of walking around with a tiny dragon on your shoulder. I've seen people with tiny Yoda or tiny Chewbacca on their back, albeit they are backpacks and also functional. People like tiny things, tiny things are cute. So, tiny dragon =cute. On your shoulder? Adorable! I myself have a tiny Groot in my kitchen, because his tiny smile is pure joy. I need to see these things in person.
