No offence... but the average American's understanding of any world politics, geography or history is quite possibly an obscenely low benchmark to determine normal. Often one mired in an inaccurate lens.

We actually had a satire program with a feature called talking to American's up here. Hilarious results.

I know for a fact American's would consider where I live "obscure". Despite the fact it hosted an Olympics.

Well, yes, you're probably right. But since this is an American website with a forum primarily made up of Americans, it's inevitable we use Americans as a benchmark. I fully confess I still can't point to Wuhan on a map, other than central China. :D

Are you in BC, where the Vancouver Olympics were? I used to ski Whistler a lot in my younger days, and some family emigrated here from Penticton about 100 years ago, with a few distant relatives still there. Lovely place BC!

And this news just flashed across from the BBC website literally two minutes ago...

British Airways has now suspended all flights to and from China, effective immediately. Wednesday's flights to and from Heathrow are cancelled. I would suspect we'll get some sort of statement or decision on US airlines from our own State Department by end of business on Wednesday. I'll say it again, I hope they can get all those American college kids out of there ASAP!

Interesting stats from the Budget meeting I am at now. Anaheim's average hotel occupancy is 82% and has been there for years. The nationwide average is in the mid 60's, and anything over 80% is amazing.

The average daily rate is at $194 a night, a number that keeps going up.

Neither of these surprise me in the least.

This website's administrator would disagree:

That’s such a standard “leak” from corporate though, isn’t it?

They know disneylanders will be clamoring for more new stuff (no need to worry about Florida...they Never insist on anything and are in the psychedelic haze/bliss of new moderate DVCs and boutique sequel trilogy hotels 🤔)...

And 2020 is a “bridge year” in many ways as they try to push wdw next year and have a bad movie slate...
I was discussing the Paris acquisition as causing cuts to US parks. Try to follow along.
But they would make cuts when they want regardless...at some point euro is just gonna have to default on that debt somehow. They will never make the cash to cover it with the stigma of the place. Europeans aren’t known for “forgetting”...I expect a regional skirmish/conflict over the 30 years war to flair up any day now ⚔️

How does one default on debt owed to oneself?

Calgary. Had to explain to someone on a lift yesterday that Alberta and Ontario were not the same thing, nor remotely geographically close.

BC is great though too!

PS this is actually a British website!

Look, I know what's going on, I know Shanghai Disneyland and Hong Kong Disneyland is closed, and my thoughts and prayers go to the people of Asia, but I don't want to worry about our Disneyland. I just don't want to overly obsessed like I always did. Again, my big condolences go to the people of Asia. I hope this horrible virus is resolved.

Euro was heavy into creditors...Disney “assumed the debt”...but did they make a multiple billion dollar payment to cover everyone?

If they did...good for them...and now I know why that dopey dinner at wilderness lodge costs so much 😉
Pretty much.
“According to Formula Money, recent account filings have shown that Disneyland Paris has returned to a profit last year. With a boost in attendance and guest spending, revenue increased almost 13% to a record £1.5bn ($2bn).

This is a significant turn for Disneyland Paris, as they historically have had a difficult time turning a profit since the opening in 1992. The turn in the tide began in 2012 when Disney provided £1.1bn ($1.46bn) to repay loan debts and would go on to take complete ownership five years later in a £1.80/share offer ($2.38/share).”

That’s good info...but it doesn’t specifically address if ALL the debt was paid.

It may have been...I don’t know?

The reality of the modern day WDC is that the only park that will not be affected by lower profits, cost overruns, sudden closures of other parks, etc. is Tokyo, because Tokyo is run by OLC, and the WDC has no ownership stake in the resort.

All other parks will take a hit.

Ah! When were the Calgary Olympics again? 1988? 1992? I forget. I have always wanted to go to the Calgary Stampede! I've been to the Ellensburg Rodeo a few times, which is the Washington state version of the Stampede, but obviously not on such a grand scale as Calgary.

And I had no idea this website was based in Great Britain! They sure hide it well, what with all us Americans crawling all over it. I just assumed it was based out of Orlando.

I'm going to try to spell things the British way from now on here, like World of Colour. 🧐

Back OT, interesting article in the Journal today about the complete crash of Chinese tourism abroad.
