Disneyland will be fine. I'm not worried.
Well, tell all the people calling me into meetings that there are no worries.

If something goes poorly, well, it isn't a pretty picture.

While things are going well now, and it seems China is trying to isolate itself to help slow down the spread, it is our duty to prepare for the worst.

And if public gathering places need to not operate to help prevent the spread, well, there is no other option.

That is why Shanghai and Hong Kong DL closed. And if the Coronavirus makes it to Orange County and starts to spread. Well, everyone will need to worry.

So keep the positive thoughts up, but understand the possibility of an epidemic is keeping a lot of folks busy currently. I am enjoying my break listening to a Public Hearing about Anaheim Hills in council chambers.

More news coming in tonight about travel restrictions and the Coronavirus. In no particular order;

  • Hong Kong has closed its border crossings with mainland China.
  • United Airlines has begun suspending flights between the USA and China.
  • The White House stated that it may consider instructing US airlines to stop all flights between China and the USA.
These things probably should have happened a few days ago, but better late than never. I just hope that all those American college kids who now apparently study over there get home quickly - the various colleges and the US State Department need to get those kids safely home pronto, if their parents aren't already demanding their schools do just that.

This type of thing will also impact Disneyland and SoCal tourism a bit as Chinese tour groups are a small but growing share of the business for Disneyland. But it sounds like Burbank is already aiming for cuts in labor and spending at the American parks even before the loss of tourism is felt, just to make up for the shut down of the Chinese parks revenue stream.

But a week ago I'd never heard of Wuhan. Had you??? A week ago could you point out Hebei province on a map, much less Wuhan? I certainly couldn't pick out Wuhan on a map, and I doubt most Americans could. I still can't, although I now know it's in the central interior area of China, southwest of Shanghai. Thus, I stand by my claim that Wuhan is an obscure place for me and most Americans.

Obscure. adjective
  1. not discovered or known about; uncertain.

But if you had a previous relationship and affinity for Wuhan and/or Hebei province prior to a week ago, then even you must admit that's a pretty rare thing for an American.

No offence... but the average American's understanding of any world politics, geography or history is quite possibly an obscenely low benchmark to determine normal. Often one mired in an inaccurate lens.

We actually had a satire program with a feature called talking to American's up here. Hilarious results.

I know for a fact American's would consider where I live "obscure". Despite the fact it hosted an Olympics.

PS: Alcohol based Hand Sanitizers do not increase antibiotic resistance (the overuse of antibiotics for viruses are the big culprit). Its use does not affect your 'immune system'. You are all exposed to hundreds of thousands of antigens in your everyday lives. Whether you sanitize or not.

Air Quality does not have an effect on the transmissibility of viruses. The dense population would be more at play. Morbidity and Mortality of course from viruses would be affected if there was significant chronic lung disease amongst said population from poor air quality.

Finally, you've probably all had a strain of Coronavirus in your lifetimes.
