Wild Tiki Room Rumor

I would hate to see the Tiki Room get even more destroyed by adding Stitch, I am not a fan of the movie and still hold a grudge from his overtaking Alien Encounter.

And didn't Space Mountain just get a face lift less than 2 or 3 years ago? Why another?

I second your grudge for Alien Encounter...still burns me that they took it out!

Space Mountian in Disneyland got the huge overhaul for the 50th, but WDW's hasn't seen much love in the past few years. It's very much in need of some TLC!

The Tiki Room at TDL has a Stitch over-lay. I don't see why it can't be implemented at MK.

JII can go down for refurb as early as October 1, 2008.

Jungle Cruise should get its refurb by 2011.

RoE should be out by 2011.

And Wishes will be out by then as well replaced with an 'E-Ticket in the sky" show.

1) Please tell me you're just speculating about Stitch. Please...
2) I'll miss Reflections of Earth, but as long as it's there in 2010 and I can get a really good video of it, I'll get over it.
3) So we'll be getting our own "Remember...Dreams Come True" show then. Basically, we're getting the DL 50th celebration in Orlando, but 10 years too early. I hope they come up with something absolutely huge for WDW's 50th if they're just copying off of the success of DL's 50th for 2011.

Oh well, I'll miss Wishes. I'll be glad for the updates to everything else, though. And I hope IllumiNations isn't replaced by a "Let's celebrate the 40th birthday of a different park!!" show. That'd be disappointing.

I was in Disneyland a few weeks ago and went to the Tiki Room. It was late in the day, and the place was packed. From the pre-show to the classic score, it was wonderful to see the old place running full steam to a full house of multiple generations. Teens to Grandpas were clapping and singing along. And to think that I remember the show being run down and people escaping half way through. It shows that if you REBUILD IT that people will come. I hope it comes back in its full glory.

A side note. One of the original proposals for the Tiki Room refurb at Disneyland was a show with a Lilo and Stitch overlay. It was designed by Steve Davison, who has done so much great work in recent years for Disney. Having his name attached leads me to believe that it would work, and would be a new classic. If it was done with somebody else then I would live in terror at the idea.

That's what I saw last year as well. It was always more crowded than the MK show and seemed to be more well liked. It was great to catch that show a few times and I can't wait to see it again.

Contrary to what you might read by some folks around here, newer isn't always better. I don't think that Under New Management is a bad show at all, but it does not compare to what came before it.

Oh no! I didn't know Disney World's Space Mountain did not get the makeover as well. Wow, I haven't been to WDW since '05 and I was just at Disneyland yesterday, the "new" Space Mountain is one of the best rides I have ever ridden. Will be going back to WDW in Sept. it will be interesting to ride the "old" SM again.

And to the guy who was at Disneyland a few weeks ago and said the Tiki Room was packed. I live in CA and go to DLR a lot...Tiki Room is most of the time absolutely dead, in fact yesterday it looked more like a place people went to to take a nap. I was the only one singing along, it was quite sad.

All of those refurbs would be awesome. As Long as Stitch is not included in any of them.

Bring Back Alien Encounter!

If everything goes according to plan, Space Mountain will be closed for the refurbishment in September. It's supposed to go down in January for anywhere from 12-18 months.

I'd love the chance to see the classics!
And I never thought I'd find something about disney I didn't like but Stitch is it.
I blame him for the bad behavior of children today! (hehe jk...he could do with a bit of manners though)

I am all for everything on that list...except Stitch. I actually like the blue guy, but one attraction in enough. The only way I would be ok with Stitch going into the Tiki Room would be if Disney had an AE rebirth (which I don't see happening).

I think she meant *this* September for her visit, not next September... So SM will still be open.

As I am a BIG, really BIG fan of the original Tiki-Room and hate the new management with every fabric of my existence (actually I have sadistic fantasies about the future fate of Iago:fork:) I hope at least the rumors about the Tiki-Room coming back (whats there at the moment IS no Tiki-Room) are true. And the JC begs for a major refurbishment. I would appreciate it to become more serious in its tone as I am growing tired of the corny jokes of the increasingly aggressive sounding skippers. Make it a real adventure with more dangers and thrills.

While I'm not a big fan of Under New Management...and luckily get to visit the "real" tiki birds in Anaheim...if you sit by the exit, and listen to the final Yago spiel...it's pretty funny!

this sounds too good to be true.

and ya know, when it sounds too good to be true...

it usually is.

my guess? it is partly right.

i think they will do a "showcase the classics" type thing. but, i dont think it will be as big.

i think it will be one ride for each park. Space Mountain for Magic Kingdom. Star Tours for Disney's Hollywood Studios. Journey into Imagination for EPCOT. and a night nighttime experience for Disney's Animal Kingdom (or some other D-Ticket)

but, I REALLY DO WISH THIS IS REAL because all of those things need some serious updates.

Perhaps they should make the Tiki-Room a little more thrilling by updating not only the AAs but also the SFX-thunderstorm. Make it a full-scale storm. Imagine: You enter the Tiki-Room with sunshine outside the "windows". Later wind sets in, it gets darker, the wind soughs stronger, lightning and thunder, pouring rain and "inside" the Tiki-hut its even more comfy. And at the end the sunlight returns.
And the should improve the pre-show.

After seeing the original in Disneyland, I want the original back at MK. The new one doesn't hold a candle to the old.

But where's Martin/Lee? Can any of our inside knowledge experts elaborate on this?

I think we all know Imagination is getting a refurb. It's been STRONGLY hinted/rumored for what, a year now? Same for Star Tours and Space Mountain. I just think those are a given. And it is interesting that the Country Bears are getting a minor refurb. I do hope they refurb Jungle Cruise more though than the little refurb it just had. And I think all of us can agree the Great Movie Ride is due for a refurb.

Obviously, take this with a grain of salt. But, you know, it would be strange to add Stitch to the Tiki Room when they already have a Stitch attraction in Tomorrowland...so bringing back Tropical Serenade does make some sense...or would they add Stitch anyway since he's a popular character now?...then what would that spell for SGE?...or will Disney even bother putting any money into the Tiki Room?

Will our heroes Jose, Michael, Pierre, and Fritz give Zazu and Iago the boot? Or will Stitch throw out the terrible toony twosome and make his own show? What will happen to that most polarizing of attractions, Stitch's Great Escape?
I doubt that they would do another Stitch attraction. The character Stitch is popular but no one seems overly enthusiastic about his attraction in Tomorrowland. I personnally prefered Alien Encounter much more.

I saw the original Tiki Room show in Disneyland this past February and didn't really have a preference for it over the WDW version. Both seemed pretty cool to me. I'd be happy with either one.

This is bitter sweet for me. I went to WDW when I was 9 and fell in love with the original Tiki Room and went racing straight to it when I went again when I was 14 and I was gutted about what they had done to it! So going back to the original will be fab! I even have the original song on my ipod!!! Adding Stitch would be a disaster! I mean, what would they do? Make him eat one of the birds?!?!

But to lose Wishes?!?!? I love Wishes!!! I have the music on CD and it's one of my fave CDs to listen to and it's just so Disney for me! but then, I haven't ever really seen any other firework show at MK except Wishes and the fireworks at the PPP.

But to lose Wishes....
