Why the hate???

I think many of the people who critize my trips to Disney over the years, went once and will never spend that kind of money again but hide it by picking on fans instead.

I had one guy I worked with that I respected his reasoning. He was in his late twenties, never wanted kids and didn't like the MK because of the hordes of children, he liked Epcot well enough, OK with DHS and wanted to put a bullet threw his head at AK. But the reason why I respected his view, it was 100% free. His GF won the 5 night trip, had the highest level Dining Plan plus a ton of Disney Dollars and stayed at the Beach Club. She was a top sales person for Sysco and they brought down their best sales reps and their families as a bonus. He had gone on these type of reward trips before and always had a wonderful time elsewhere. Disney, just not for him. We always went for 2 week trips at least annually. He'd bang his head on his desk when he heard we were heading down again. :p

Not surprising since he didn't like kids. But hey, he's entitled to his opinion.

I fail to see how @Nemo14 said could be construed as disrespectful. He stated he found threads like this quite bothersome... Wasnt like he was personally insulting you. And then he gave his opinion in a respectful manner. I share his opinion. Does that somehow make me disrespectful? Now the guy who said you need professional help... Yes he went too far. But Nemo wasnt.

Nemo is a woman;)

Exactly.

I don't have a problem if you don't like it (though I always tell people they'd like it better had they done with me;)). What I have a problem with is when they choose to pick on me simply because I enjoy it. My friend went to a One Direction concert recently. I hate One Direction. But I still was glad she had fun and I asked about it, even though I'm sick of them. I'm not going to pick on her (except for a little gentle teasing, this I have no issue with). Another example: my awesome aunt does not like Disney. But before I went to Disneyland, she gave me a Disney card and money to spend. Why? Because she knew I'd enjoy it. Although I don't understand personally why you wouldn't love Disney, I don't care as long as you don't rain on my parade.

Thank you (and am I the only one who thought that post#6 there was a bit rude?)

And for the record, I'm a "she", but I appreciate the kind words.

Seriously ?? Can we have a bit of respect ?? I have never seen such rudeness in this board as I've seen lately.. Not just with my thread, but others as well..So what if someone asked the same question last week!! Or posted the same thing the other day! Go with it people, really, cant we all just (and yes I know its so old school ) but can"t we all just get along???How hard is it to be kind to one another?? My god!

Chill out homes. It's called banter.

You are being a bit silly though. I'm not bothered whether it's the same question as last week, it's more that you're getting irate that someone else thinks Disney is boring.

Ok so let me first say I know Disney is not for everyone and not everyone is going to enjoy it or feel the need to go more than once in their lifetime...I get that, with saying that, I was on another Social media site, and seen someone say that they were going to Orlando today, a friend of theirs commented "oh Disney"....The other person replied with "oh god no, we hate it there and find it boring"!!! I then right there almost died!!! I guess the look on my face was enough for my hubby to say " are you ok"? Now I know like I said Disney isnt for everyone, But I truly got insulted, like it was a family member they were talking about!! LOl , pitiful arent I?? I then commented to this person " wow I cant imagine my girls hating to go there or find it boring , and we go twice a yr "!.. This person then replied with " well we took my son when he was 5 , he doesnt watch tv or movies so he didnt know any characters and found it very boring and so did i"... I was speechless and didnt want to say what I really wanted to, like where did you stay , when did you go, and did you just do one park?? Because this person is one of those people who calls the Magic Kingdom ,Disney world (yes that is one of my pet peeves)...So I simply just responded with an "ok gotcha"! I mean really I still am still flustered, lol!! I had to share because I know my fellow obsessed disney finatics would get me, or at least some of you...Now I dont expect everyone who has gone or not gone to love Disney, god knows I have my chops busted enough at work with my clients about it(although many of them just know and they get a kick out of it and usually ask when the next disney trip is) Whew I feel so much better!! Thanks for letting me vent!! And As a side note, really ,even if you never watched tv , everyone knows who Mickey Mouse is!!!! Like I said mentally I know I should not be insulted , emotionally I'm like  !!

Right there with ya...
Especially when people look at me funny for telling them im going back to the world!!! I hate that...

I went to Vegas last year and found it quite boring
I believe it... I haven't been to Vegas since it was the OLD Vegas (70s). I wasn't impressed then - and honestly, I doubt I'd be impressed now. It's huge, it's gaudy, it's over the top - and I don't gamble. It's probably one of those things you should see at least once, I guess, and I'd like to. But not a high priority by any stretch.

I don't understand why people care if others like things they like. My wife hates Disney, she has been a few times with the family but now just has me take the kids when we go. I don't try to change her mind, their is no point. Maybe you are subconsciously trying to justify the fact that you like something that was made for kids, if that is the case why care what others think?

Frankly I wish more people hated it because then when I went the crowds would be smaller.

You know when 74 says there is a mental psychosis in the Disney online fan community? Well, not to be rude or anything but, someone getting insulted when another person says they find WDW boring, acting as if a family member was insulted, does kind of border on exactly what 74 preaches....
I have to agree with this. I also think that's what the poster meant when he/she suggested the OP seek out professional help. While it may have sounded harsh, I don't think it was meant as an attack, but rather a "for your own good" type of remark. To be that insulted as the OP was because someone did not enjoy a product (which the OP had no part in actually creating or owning), is a sign of some sort of problem. I'm not meaning this as an attack either.
Now, had the OP been attacked/questioned as to why he/she enjoys Disney...then that would certainly warrant a reaction like what was described. Nobody likes to be judged or ridiculed for something that interests them. But in that same respect, nobody should be judged for NOT liking something either.

To be a fan of something so severely that it warrants feelings of hurt when others do not appreciate it the way you do IS a form of deficiency. There is no (healthy) reason for any of us to be so obsessive of our likes that we blindly become aggressors of others for their dislikes. Especially when it comes to something you had absolutely no part in designing or creating. We're just patrons of the product, and let's enjoy being such without giving a hang what others say or think

Unfortunately I've gotten that reaction before. A lot actually. In fact, I got it all the time in 4th grade. It was borderline bullying because I like Disney so much. One guy in particular used to make fun of me for it all the way until 7th grade. What I really don't understand was that these same boys were the ones who were obsessed with superheroes and wore clothes with Spiderman and whatnot on them all the time, but somehow I was weird because I liked Disney. And at that time, the bullying system wasn't as good as it is now. Now, fortunately, Baltimore County Schools has their staff required to take a bullying training course and they can lose their job if they see bullying and fail to report it (my mother is a substitute teacher and had to take this) but it wasn't in place until I was in high school and no longer bullied. So can I be a bit defensive of Disney? Well, yeah. I think some of us who have been ridiculed get a little more upset than normal. But as long as no one inhibits my enjoyment of it or tells me I'm weird for it.

One could also say Disney is huge, gaudy, and over the top. ;)

Update - But I love it anyway!

Key word in this statement: KIDS.... yes, kids are cruel, mean, and down right hurtful... Yes, they tease, especially boys teasing girls at a young age... 4th grade, you were a kid, and as a kid, the reaction to being teased about something you like would be hurt feelings... And I'd accept a kid being hurt over being teased about Disney... notice I said A KID... not an adult...

However, the OP was not teased about Disney.. She said she took offense to hearing someone finding Disney boring... Said she was as offended as if a family member was made fun of... That is a psychosis which may require professional help.. No RATIONAL adult should ever have any kinds of hurt feelings over someone saying WDW is boring... And in reality, no rational adult should ever get hurt feelings over being teased about liking Disney... An adult should have more maturity to understand people have different tastes and feelings about EVERYTHING and just move on.... No crying...

Defensive, sure. But upset that someone else doesn't like it? That's ridiculous.

Dark Lord of the Tater Tots, your post made me think of my friend... he is a die hard Yankee fan... I can never have any intelligent conversations about baseball or the Yankees with him... NONE... he is irrational to the point he needs to either step back from baseball for a while or needs professional help... Every draft is the Yankees best... Every off season signing or trade they do (or don't do) is always the best move of any team in the off season... He can never find it in himself to ever give credit to other teams (such as Baltimore, Tampa Bay and never to the Red Sox or Mets).... When I mention how I respect the moves of other teams, and how great those moves are, and how awesome they are building their teams and will present a challenge to the Yankees, I am met with a NO WAY.. NEVER... Kind of sounds like a Disney fan never giving Universal credit huh? LOL...
