I use both Macs and PCs and wish I could have the Mac OS (it's beautiful) with the PC's flexibility.

You can. http://www.efi-x.com

I built myself basically a machine better than a MacPro from the supported hardware for the device for about $800 and I'm running OS X on it. Love it. I'm installing a 2nd drive with Vista soon to dual boot it as well for gaming.

I also use both Macs and PCs and was an Apple specialist repair technician as well for 4 years in New Orleans. I've always used both systems though. They each do different things better than the other and I probably couldn't get along without having both machines in my house.

I even just bought an HP tablet to replace my Eee PC to use as my laptop and to maybe replace my 1st gen MacBook Pro.

Pretty good applications but last I checked Disney still gives free maps to everybody entering the park, you would be sure the Disney maps would be up to date for that day, the Disney maps are free, and you will not look like a dork playing with your iPhone in the theme parks.

I just don't like paying a $1000+ more for a machine (that is slower than my pc) just because "It looks soooo prettty." You can keep your pretty box. I'll spend that $1000+ at Disney instead.

Thats so green isnt it, paper ;)

Thats your option. To me its just some person looking at their phone. Could be a doctor replying to a emergency or someone posting to THIS forum. Is your statement is based in hate or jealousy? I cant think of any reason to judge someone as a dork for their gaget choice, unless your in high school where that kinda thing matters.

Steve Jobs is on the board.

Apple is an innovative/leading company.

What gives?

Because they prefer to have broken PCs...

All four Potato Heads were crashed in one way or another that day. CMs either could not or would not reboot them:

Naw, just can't stand smug fanboys.

Agreed (and I'm an apple user). Apple (and their fanboys) have gotten a wee bit of big head the past few years and it's begun to give me a bad taste in my mouth.

All this "we're superior to MS" nonsense and their godly outrageous prices is why I went the hackintosh route with my latest computer build. I like Apple's OS and their apps, but their hardware is getting ridiculously overpriced with their 'Apple Tax'.

Especially considering that Mac's are increasingly using the same hardware being put into Windows PC's and laptops. If they were still using their own propitiatory, supposedly bullet proof hardware I could see the cost being justified, but off the shelf parts and a fancy skin does not justify a price premium in my book.

But you know what they say..."Once you go Mac...you never go back"

:slurp:

Just a personal story. I used to be an avid PC lover. Used to build them from scratch with the awesome neon lights and liquid cooling (like truly awesome gaming systems), but I always had a mac on the side for graphic/web design. This year I totally banished my PC for a Mac Pro and never looked back. I totally converted my Mom and Sister but buying them Mac Mini's and it's insane how much they love them now.

Well I started brainwashing my mom by getting her an iPhone first, then her PC died so she wanted a Mac.

I truly recommend people try it out first before they bash it...

but, to each their own...

I actualy have gone back and forth and back and forth.

Mac's are more stable and better designed than most out of the box Windows machines. However, I like to tinker, I like to customize and at times mac's are too restrictive to me.

Going back to someones car analogy. A mac is like a top of the line E type Jaguar, it runs great, looks great, performs great, but I am not going to be taking it apart and putting in a cold air intake, chipping the engine computer, and modding the exhaust. All that car is going to do, is do what it was designed to do, and do it well (and come at quite a cost)

The Windows machine is more like a Subaru WRX. It runs good out of the box, it looks decent, and is reliable. (despite all the horror stories, I never have a problem with XP pro - yes I don't use Vista) However there are mods galore for that WRX. There are people that mod them themselves, and there are also shops that will do it for you. You can drop the suspension, tighten it up, put on low profile tires and make it a street machine. Or you can loosen it up a bit, and make a heck of a rally car out of it. It WILL run great and do what YOU want it to do, not what some designer decided it will do. However you have some work to do to get it to that point.

Mac's and PC's are just two different things. Whatever one anybody wants to send to me for free, I'll take :)

Okay, I'm not a fanboy, but have you ever used one of the Intel-based Macs running on Leopard? Despite the apparently lower tech specs, they're MUCH faster than Vista machines because the OS isn't a resource hog.

(p.s. I also own a PC with Vista and I actually like it, but I had to do a lot of customization)

Maybe this thread should be moved?

At least a PC says what's wrong; if that were a Mac, the screen would be dark with a power symbol logo, and you'd have no warning.

Several things...

1) My family use both macs and pcs and the choice is down to individual preference. All the macs have "lower specs" than the pcs (which btw are running XP in its various forms) and yet the macs (running both Tiger and Leopard) perform faster.

2) There are occasionally things that you can't do on a mac. I'm talking really specific things but these are becoming rarer and rarer. That's why I personally have to boot up XP occasionally but it is a really, really irritating piece of OS to deal with.

3) I personally believe that the Mac OS is more user friendly. Case in point is my mum who is not particularly IT literate, uses both XP and OSX and finds the latter much easier to work her way around.

4) Someone (sorry that I can't remember who) was criticising the geniuses at the Apple Stores. I obviously don't know about other peoples experiences but from my own I've really come to appreciate the service. All my friends that use Windows machines have to send their hardware away to the manufacturer in order to get it fixed. Apple gives you that option and also the option to take it into your local store (which I appreciate is not necessarily local for everyone) and assess the problem and get it fixed in house - no matter where you are in the world or what country your computer originated from. Now, if you ask me that's not half bad.

5) Someone made a comment about the lack of blu-ray on Apple machines. Call me crazy but for the average user who has a 15"-19" screen what is the point of watching HD material on it. Yeah, you notice the difference when it's a much larger screen but to most people using a small screen the difference is negligible. Also, the people I know that use iPhones to watch movies are doing so why traveling rather than in their homes and that makes carrying round a 50" plasma slightly awkward. In fact a lot of them have plasma tvs at home.

I am unashamedly an Apple lover but this is down to my own personal experience of using the machines. I bought my first mac for video editing nearly 4 years ago as a secondary machine to my HP laptop and now the only windows computers I use are at work.

The fact is that Apple machines have been voted in the top 5 for performance by consumers recently. They're not in the top 5 in terms of actual sales but then that doesn't really surprise me. For the many Apple bashers out there I hope none of you own iPods.

This is a two sides of a coin thing. People either love or hate Windows or Mac. I use both and even hacked Mac OS into a Dell Mini 9.

But each machine can do something better that the others.

The Apple Tax is sometimes looked and not acknowledge in a way that The mac comes with some apps out of the box that you may have to pay premium on a PC.

Now after a Drift on the thread and back to the issue

Have you seen Bolt, the Agent Uses an iPhone and the TV Show is Done on a Mac OS System Running Final Cut Pro.

Wall-E Full Charge sound is a Mac Startup Sound, and Eve was design to look like a iMac. (i know is Pixar)

Now wasn't there a rumor back when PI was about to close that DTD was getting an Apple Store, A Flagship store?

I don't hate Apple. I've used 'em, and liked 'em, but I personally prefer a product I can do stuff with without needing to have Apple's high and mighty permission for first XD
