Why I may not go again

I wish everyone who said that they are done with WDW would actually be done with WDW. Would result in a lot shorter lines for the rest of us!
I said I’m done with Disney and I’m done! My next vacation is an all inclusive Caribbean resort and the next is a cruise. I am used to two Disney vacations a year. And that’s gone. I want to have fun on my vacations.

Maybe they are and there are just enough new guests to replace them and more.
This was definitely true in the past. I think recent changes will be enough to turn many people off after their next visit. It likely will take a visit by anyone who would like to go, but I think a good portion of people will not like the changes and not return, or perhaps not return as often.

I have a friend who recently visited since these changes and he paid for all the extras and doesn't need to worry about money. He was completely turned off by the entire experience. He wasn't a diehard and didn't go often, but that proves my point. People who think to themselves out of the blue... hey, let's go to WDW for a fun vacation will do so at least once despite price increases. After this last experience though he said he wouldn't consider it again. I think many people will be turned off and do the same, especially those who don't have lots of disposable income.

Btw, I realize I've been very down on Disney on these boards recently for anyone who's noticed. I like everyone else here was once hooked enough to join this forum. This was not only my go-to vacation, but really the only destination I considered. That's why I'm so down on the place with one bad change after another.

I’ve noticed that too. Roughly only in the last five years or so. And it’s accelerating. There were virtually none a decade ago.

Says something….
And it's everywhere. I don't participate in other Disney forums, but I do browse here and there, Reddit, etc. and this isn't just your standard churn. And although I don't do much social media, the only people who I do see that I personally know on social media that still are going are the ones who are "travel planners" who are getting comp'd left and right.

I can speak for myself - they priced me out awhile ago. At least WDW did, Disneyland at least is still manageable. But obviously, I'm still here - so I every so often entertain the idea of "to heck with it, I'll pay their stupid prices"...but then - I realize that even if I gave in on the money part, WDW still isn't a very pleasant place any more to be in my eyes.

Reading the OP here, personally Magical Express part doesn't bother me (I haven't been without my own car, even on property, for well over a dozen years, I want my flexibility), but everything else said really resonated. WDW has just become too restrictive and complex for me to actually have fun.

The fact that I can't just pay one price for a park hopper ticket to be able to go where I want, when I want, is a total dealbreaker. I'm the type that I wouldn't know what to do for a full day in a single park. I want to rope drop the MK, do my favorite rides - head over to AK for lunch and a spin on Dinosaur, then head over to MGM or Epcot for the nighttime show.

It was one thing back when it was just about booking restaurants three or even six months out. I'm one of those people who loved to plan, but also realized - plans are a guideline, sticking to them on a military schedule was never a good idea - the best planners know how to take advantage of whatever situation is going on at the moment, and are able to "plan" on the go. Sure, you labor over itineraries because it used to be fun - not required, and you weren't beholden to it. So you make your one reservation of the day for a sit-down meal, and just work around it.

But now? Park reservations? It's just crazy. I can almost see it if it is your "once in a lifetime" trip, but as someone who has spent months worth of days in my life at the parks - it is just so completely unappealing to me. I would feel like I was wasting my money. I want to go where I want, when I want. I would feel like it was a severely truncated experience.

And now, when you factor in all the other stuff - that I could write an essay about, but it's all so awful I don't even want to go there - the Genie + /pay per ride stuff, the decimation of entertainment, and so on...

...Let's just put it this way. If you had told me ten, even five years ago that the magic would have gone like this for me - I never would have believed it. I imagined I would be an AP holder until I die. And it has nothing to do with me falling out of love with the parks themselves - it is everything crappy around them that Disney has insisted on doing with them that has sucked all the fun out of visiting them, at the same time they have upped the pricing so high that it's cheaper to spend a week in pretty much any location in the world other than WDW.

Except...it almost doesn't matter how many people are actually in the park when you go.

If the park is slated to be less crowded, then WDW will find 20 ways to cut back. Like, when you go to eat in the food court, only 1 line will be open. When you try to eat TS, you'll wait...to be seated...for your food...for your bill. Try mobile order, and you'll wait and wait for your order to be ready.

The park hours will be reduced.

Only 1 side of BTMRR will be running...

You'll wait longer for a bus/boat to take you to the park....

And mysteriously, there will still be no way to change your park reservation to a different park, because all the parks are full.

And good luck trying to contact anyone using the MDE 'chat' feature. It will be at least 20min before anyone replies.

And good luck trying to call someone at WDW. You'll have to wait on hold for an hour.
You will find misery if you really want to find it. I don't look for it. Go with the flow. I'll be on vacation, not a quest to find problems. To each his own.

The way I see it, if somebody says they are "done" with WDW, but are hanging around WDW forums regularly, they are not truly DONE with WDW. Maybe taking a hiatus, but not fully done. Like a person saying they are DONE with sweets but still lingering around a bakery window, seeing what's going on and what's new... wondering if just one more bite will harm their waistline.

Great post! Don't know that it can be said any better. Being from the Midwest, I'd only say that DME being axed while not a deal-breaker for me, was extremely magic-breaking. It's where the magic all started... right at the airport. If I have to take an Uber or taxi... not so magical, seriously. Just not the same vibe. I could even look past that. OR better yet I'd have been willing to pay extra to keep it, even though I know it was built into the hotel rate already.

The rest of your post is spot on for me. I know this isn't true for all on these boards, but the magic started dwindling for me when FP+ replaced FP... simply because of the whole slave to your phone thing and planning FPs months in advance making spontaneity non-existent like you said. Now, with having "lost" that Disney desire, I feel like an important member of the family has passed because I don't see returning until they fix some of their big problems.

That’s ridiculous. The only reason I’m still here on the forums is to literally complain about what’s going on now, and to talk about what once was. :p

Literally, no joke. One can be a fan of the past and never go back. And there are plenty of conversations to be had about such.

You will find misery if you really want to find it. I don't look for it.

So that's what I've been doing wrong all this time.......

I set out to look for theme parks that require reservations with asinine hopping restrictions and that won't employ parking lot trams at 75% of its parks and I found it in Disney.

next time I won't look

Really? Or were you joking?? Reminds me of the old folks no one pays attention to because every sentence stars with "back when I was young". 😆

This past Easter my church challenged the congregation to give up "complaining " for Lent, we got plastic bracelets to wear as a reminder, we were supposed to "snap" our wrist when we realized we had been needless whining, I totally admit that the first day I lasted all of 30 minutes. I had to take a break from here when I realized just how many of the threads here are complaints.
All good, they make interesting reads

I'm surprised that people feel the same as I do. I was preparing for backlash and negative comments.
I’m not…it’s almost the main opinion now and on the long list of Chapek’s problems.
The 2 things that bother us the most are park reservations and genie+. Paying for genie+, while annoying, is understandable, but why not just use the old FP+ system, where you could do it for your whole trip 60 days out, and then just charge us for that. The idea of having to go through the stress of essentially what we did for the RotR virtual queue (which was fine for one ride) every day of our vacation is crazy. How is it that nearly everyone could get a minimum of 3 FP+s/day before, and the lines still weren't crazy, but now the lines seem to be backed up through the park like we've never seen before. Same with park reservations. Sometimes on past trips we might change our minds which park we want to start out at the next day, or maybe get to the park, use our FPs, and then by 11 or so want to hop to another park. Now we have to wait until 2. And insane lines back up throughout the parks - doesn't seem like "crowd management" is working - or it doesn't mean what we think it means...
It’s been rehashed a billion times…but the prebooked fastpass was a disaster and that’s why they killed it. All the way around.

That doesn’t mean this is better…but I get them killing it.

The only way to fix it is to add capacity…like 5 rides per park. Yeah. So that’s not going to happen and this is your new “normal”.

Well, call it what you want, but you've proved my point. But to each their own.

I like reality and informed choices. I come to these forums to hear about everyone's experiences, so I try to help everyone by providing information and returning the favor.

My responses are for the greater good.:)

lol. Of course not. Just most of these "The magic is gone" threads quest hard to find faults.
It's great you don't see fault in Disney. Disney is wonderful for those with littles. I want to take my 2 year old someday. Now if I were to ask my 11 and 12 year old nieces I'm taking them, their answer would be can we go to Cedar Point instead as they are into thrill rides now.
