Why Hollywood Studios is being rebuilt

I would agree with all of that.

But maybe there is another, overriding consideration. DHS is only one of four theme parks. WDW can afford the luxury of specialised parks. And one of DHS's specialisations is shows. Even if more rides would mean that DHS attracts more visitors, with higher customer satisfaction, then still guest satisfaction with WDW as a whole could go down. Because guests would go through the same tired formula of 'collection of IP franchise rides' in all four parks.

Varitation is key!

Agree ^

I was going to say that it does look like DHS has carved out a niche for itself with the shows. It's no secret that Fantasmic was added to DHS to boost attendance.

WDW does have the blessing of size, and part of the vacation for many is the freedom to park hop. Epcot in the morning, MK at night, whatever your heart desire. DHS probably gets visits from folks who come for a show, and to ride a couple rides, or have dinner.

One could argue that Carsland could be put almost anywhere on property and it would draw in the same number of guests to WDW.

While merchandise sales have been cited as a need to put down the massive amounts of cash required for Carsland . . . there was virtually no Carsland specific merchandise when the place opened.

As much as I love attraction-specific merch, with Cars, there is such a massive amount of consumer product (the first "boys" toys Disney has been able to tie to it's films since Toy Story, and because of the car theme they have been able to far surpass that in variety) that I can see why they didn't feel a big need.

Unfortunately, to the kids they are selling to, they don't care if it's branded with the attraction or not. It's old foggies like us that like such things and think they matter.

Expanded offerings and shrunken footprint...

I'm sure it's naive, but I'm still hoping that they expand the guest areas to some current backstage stuff. Some of it would be a no brainer (like the LMA practice area), others it would depend on the future plans (like the current parade buildings behind Backlot Express). Plus, hopefully they finally use Soundstage 1 for guest purposes.

My point being, I don't see the point in shrinking the footprint of onstage areas, when it could/should be expanded. Though replacing Backlot Tour and LMA with walkable lands will help out a lot with guest flow and space.

Varitation is key! And WDW has an amazing advantage over its competition in having the blessing of size, of four theme parks. There is no need for every park to be follow the same formula of a full, two day park with thirty rides. WDW can specialise, with a food and drink park (the formerly great park of EPCOT), a show park (DHS), and a leisurly atmosphere park (DAK).

While I think that variation would be a good thing, there's no reason that every park couldn't have a solid core of rides in addition to other experiences. Having 6 rides in a theme park is pathetic, no matter what other offerings it has. There's a reason why MK is so much busier than the other three parks and it isn't just nostalgia -- it's because there is a ton more to do, especially with rides.

Put 10-15 rides in each park as a baseline and then, yes, you can have more specialized activities that distinguish each. No one is saying eliminate shows from DHS; in fact, I would argue that one of the crimes is having the Premiere Theater sitting there empty most of the year. Fill it!

No Cars Land, or no Cars merch? It has always been about the latter. Everywhere I go I see Disney Cars stuff, it's as ubiquitous as Princess merch. I think this is why Cars is pushed, from the movie sequel to the theme park presence.

Didn't think I would ever do it, but finally used the Ignore button.
On Pixie? Why? Because he holds a minority position?

I find him a delight to read. With refreshing insights and a with just a lovely penchant for anti-authoritarian, original thought. And, especially, always with a calm politeness that is a far cry from the horde of bullies who somehow think it appropriate to habitually call the loner beastly names. (And that on a family Disney forum, tsk tsk!)

Rarely do I ever comment. And first off if this has been said sorry, I didn't read all 77 pages. I love Hollywood Studios but its almost not a family park. By that I mean there's the thrill rides like ToT and Aerosmith. And then there's the little kids like Playhouse. And then you have Star Wars. And a few other things all mixed in. But with my family the park doesn't work as an all day park. I have on child, my 8 year daughter old who is afraid of anything high, fast, dark, or loud. And being a girl all Star Wars means to her is the thing the boys in her class ramble about with the scary green cat with hairy ears, aka Yoda. And to her Cars is ok cause Mater is amusing. But that's it. So although Aerosmith is one of my fave rides in all of WDW I haven't been in on it since 2002 before she was born. But my daughter loves Muppets so, so much. She wants to be a Muppet and sometimes in her mind I think is. In the recent movie the song something about Am I Man or a Muppet practically spoke to her. LOL. But also because of the park she knows what Singin in the Rain is. The little quirks of the streetscape or whatever they are called. So, please don't get rid of Muppetvision. It is also the last thing Jim Henson ever worked on. And that makes me sad if the last thing Jim Henson did was forgotten about. Thank you for my ramble.

I think 'Planes' will provide a fresh platform for a great E-ticket attraction, as well as a variety of merchandise. They should leave Carsland on the left coast where it belongs. IMHO .

Maybe, if, and that's a big if, it turns out to be a good movie. If it had been made by Pixar I would have a little more faith in it. Just have to wait and see.

My two biggest concerns are Muppetvision and Sci-Fi.

I can even understand that Muppetvision is an old attraction and needs sprucing/spiffing up. But why not do something else for the Muppets. The Hensons got a crap of a deal. The Muppet representation in DHS was half-hearted and remained that way until it deteriorated. Either they get a better section or the Hensons should think about pulling out and going elsewhere. But I don't know the stipulations/legal contracts and what went down when they made that deal right before Jim died. I don't understand it, I don't know enough, so I will stop posting now. I just wish they were better represented in the park. I can only go by what I have observed for years, and I realize that weakness on my part.

Why get rid of Sci-Fi? Why not relocate one of the best/unique ideas and most popular restaurants in the DisneyParks East? We have the 50's in the Prime Time restaurant, and Sci-Fi is late 50's to early 60's. It is perfect. So upsetting if it goes.

I can't always come on and check the site as often as I'd like. Life gets busy. But if there are any updates about these two things in the future, somebody, please pm me and let me know...

Disney bought all the Muppet rights years ago I believe. They can do what they wish, or in this case what they dont wish, unfortunatly.
