Who likes Food Network?

I miss Delia Smith, it was a programme that I watched pretty much every week it was on (I know, it's sad isn't it  ) but some of the stuff she made looked absolutely wonderful :)

She had such an influence over what England as a country ate:

"In 1998 How To Cook showed a nation of incompetents how to boil an egg. When the programme was aired 58 million more eggs were sold in six weeks, and sales of an omelette pan featured on the series leapt from 200 to 90,000 a year "

I have known the supermarkets in my local area to sell out of a certain product after it has been featured on Delia!

Still, even she's not perfect, her last episode had loads of bloopers from the series, such as dumping a cake on the side, food that sticks in the bowl because it is burnt, her swearing and various others :D

Does anyone remember Darina Allen of the Ballymaloe Cooking School? The show was from Ireland. Loved how she used real butter & eggs. :slurp:

Did anyone watch the "Two Fat Ladies" when it was on regularly? I loved that show, they made interesting things, but they were hilarious! Unfortunately one of them passed on last year (I think), so their show is barely on anymore.

DMC-12

It's HarmonioUS, NOT HarmoniYOU.

Unwrapped is another favorite. Not sure about Bobby Rivers, but I know Marc Summers suffers from OCD. I saw a 20/20 piece on him, its really sad. The camera man dislodged a tassle on his rug & he spent a half hour fixing all 700 (or so) of them. The OCD is what made his leave Double Dare...too much mess all the time

You know what... your right... its Marc Summers.... sorry... I was up late posting...

That's all pretty sad about Marc and Bobby.

Random thought: It's always kind of bugged me how Bobby will sign off from Top 5 with the same phrase every time ("Foods that are fun, foods that are festive, and foods that are just plain fabulous," to paraphrase). I always just assumed it was the writers, but now I wonder if his condition makes him feel compelled to always say the same thing everytime. No way to know, I guess.

p.s.: Not trying to denigrate the poor guy's condition, just spouting random cogitations.

I love Unwrapped (and miss Double Dare. Fun memories) and Good Eats. My daughter loves the $40 a day show for some reason. I use to watch Iron Chef back in the day when people had never heard of it. I don't sit down to watch it much anymore but when I do...I have to go to my favorite Japanese restaraunt soon after..it makes me soo hungry!

I will say this, after watching most of these shows, and the ingrediants they use, being hungry is usually not my problem. . . sauteed Squid liver in octupus ink anyone :hurl:

I'm the type who could sit and watch the Weather Channel for hours. However, my son loves watching the Food Network, and makes a big deal of he and I watching the show together. It means a whole lot to him if I do this.

Usually their main ingredient is something like potato, lobster, onion, etc. The ones that involve fish make me sick..don't watch those. But my daughter and I love seafood!

I watch the Food Network all the time. I have even downloaded some of the recipes and made them. My favorites are Paula Dean, Barefoot Contessa and Emeril. I tell my husband he is addicted to ESPN, he tells me I'm addicted to FN!:)

self confessed, somewhat obsessed food nework fan...
We love Unwrapped! I also watch Alton Brown, he and Emeril make cooking fun, and they have great recipies on the website too. But I have to admit, when they do the Unwrapped shows, it does make us wonder what happened to some of the favorites we liked as kids...and it makes us want to go to the family home made candy store here in town.:)
I like this site best...http://www.hometownfavorites.com/nostalgic-candy.htm
I enjoy TLC and Discovery too...
American Choppers and Monster House...LOL

OMG! HOW DID I MISS THIS THREAD?!

Mad, Im right here!

Two words: TYLER FLORENCE! Food 9-1-1 and Tylers Ultimate! :slurp: I love how he laughs and how he explains what hes doing. I loved when he went to the home ec class in Atlanta and had a flour fight with the kids, big adorable kid that he is I loved how he jumped up and down laughing when he fried the Mars bar on the Fish & Chips epi. Loved how he went to the Chalfonte in my favorite beach resort, Cape May. I love how he loves what he does! Im guessing here that I just love Tyler

My mom is a big Rachael Rae fan. I dont know why. Her 30 Minute Meals look more like a dash for dinner. One time, she did this leg of lamb, right? You all know how big a leg of lamb is. She had it deboned, granted, however, she dumps it on that old grill pan of hers (that sometimes looks a bit, uh, dirty) and goes for a commercial. We come back, and that raw and bloody leg of lamb is now FULLY COOKED! I kid you not! COOKED THRU! BROWNED! DONE...in a minute and a half! I also watch her $40 A Day when theres nothing else on. Everything that goes into her mouth is always declared YUMMY! I want to know how much she tips, though. Her "tax & tip" is always like, $1.32 on a $16 dinner. I dont get it (someone once told me that New Yorkers tip high, but still..isnt that like, cheap?)

I LOVE Paula Dean! She never fails to make my mouth water with what she makes. I loved the show she did in Plains, GA with President Carter. And I just covet that beautiful kitchen of hers!

Barefoot Contessa is another favorite. I WANT THAT HOUSE!! I have gotten quite a few good recipes from Ina Garten and I have actually made them too! The cole slaw I did of hers was FABULOUS! :slurp:

Unwrapped...love it, but I wont ever eat Kraft caramels again  (Look for the James Taffy epi :slurp: )

Lisa I knew you would show up sooner or later.

Tyler just went off...made lasagna tonight. :slurp:
Now Jamie is in Scotland cooking seafood...a passion of mine. :sohappy:

Paula Deen is a hoot. She is the only person I know who cooks with "grease".

Rachel Rae has never met a beer she didn't like. And yes, her tips are a little chintzy.

Thank you. I thought it was just me thinking, how the heck is she figuring those tips? And I know what you mean about the beer...and any other alcoholic drink that comes her way
