for me, it wouldn't be Thanksgiving without the macy's parade.

but even though I've lived in NYC or on Long Ilsand my entire life, I've never seen the parade in person.

nor have I ever gone into the city the night beofre to watch them inflate the balloons.

my daughter Jen was invited to go with a friend's family this year, they'll head up to Central park Wednesday night and watch the ballooons take shape, and then they'll grab a bite to eat

I admit to being just a tad bit jealous.

Kinda reminds me of this picture. Watching it on television while it's happening in your own backyard.

But, yes, I always get up to watch the parade.

I always watch for a little bit while I am cooking. My Mom always loved it and I watched it with her as a kid. She still calls me every Thanksgiving morning to tell me to cut it on. :)

I used to watch it all the time (although now I can't, due to assisting the marching band at HS). I do tape it though. I also love watching March of the Wooden Soldiers on Thanksgiving.

One day I would love to see the balloons inflated, and watch the parade in person.

Yes! I've watched it every year since I was a child. I still get a tear in my eye when Santa appears at the end of the parade! That moment always marks the beginning of the Christmas season for me.:xmas:

To me... watching that parade on Thanksgiving... is the official start of the holiday season.

But since I dont own a TV -- live in a flat -- and refuse to give comcast any of my money... I'll just have my sister DVR it for me... and watch it when I get to her house.

Same here (though I now live upstate), but then I've never had the urge to do so...too many people.
We have to watch every year though, even though the kids are older.

When I was younger I marched in the parade several times. Now, I just have it on while cooking the turkey and stuffing the mushrooms. :D

Every year! In my flannel pj's! :D

Went to it in person a couple of years ago. It was neat seeing it in person, but is MUCH better from the comfort of home...and flannels. :king:

LOL. I've never done NYE in times Square either.

my parents did, once, back in the 50's, before they were married. but I never managed it when I was in my 20's, and now I'm too enamored of my comforts to stand out in the cold for hours just to watch the ball drop.

now, if you're paying for my room at the Marriott Marquis, I'll be glued to my window at 11:58.

The very last time we went,i was 8 1/2 months pregnant with my third child. But,we got hooked up with a building, 1 block from macys on the parade route. We were on the 14th floor. The floats were going right past us and we could see the entertainment in front of macys.Awesome.I think that is one of the reasons we havent gone back, unless i line up at 5am,the experience could never be repeated.and ,another thing,WHY does ch.11 in NY have to show" The March of the Wooden Soldiers "at the same time as the parade?that really stinks.

Yes, I watch it!
I loved to sit & watch every minute of it as a child.
Even though I don't have time to sit & watch the entire show anymore, I love to just listen to it.
My kids will let me know if an interesting float or balloon is coming up.
It sort of kicks off the holiday season. :xmas:
