Please don't hunt me down and kill me....

But seriously, who would be much more happy on a WDW vacation if there were NO BIG LAKE IN FRONT OF THE PARK. I sure would. I hate having to plan and extra hour into my day for getting to and from MK. Pretty as it may be it is a real drain over a 10 day vacation that I could do without. Brave few that do agree, you may post, but let the flames begin. Esp. those Poly folks with their awesome view.

Extra hour? That's a bit of an exageration, don't you think?
Its less than 10 minutes across by monorail, and resort busses take you directly to the front entrance. Where are you figuring an extra hour?

For me it adds to the build up of arriving at the MK. The last few years I've used the buses from the resorts and I've missed riding the tram and the monorail. I think it adds to the overall beauty of the place too.

I can't agree with you on this one, JJ. I mean, it is nice to pull up right in front of the local six flags entrance and be in line for the roller coaster ten minutes later, but the fact you don't have a parking lot right on the other side of the train station is part of what makes the Magic Kingdom special. Unless you come from a resort bus, you have to arrive on a big boat or a train in the sky - and when you are on rides, you don't look over the fence and see the check cashing business or the Taco Bell across the street.

20 Min in the morning to get under the bridge, wait, and ride. 25+ at night. That can get close to an hour quick.

Amazing. For some reason, I was thinking this EXACT same thing today. I was even going to post a question, asking if it would be designed differently if it were built today. It is cool the first time, but it becomes somewhat of a hassle. One of the things I appreciated about Disneyland was the ability to walk from anywhere on the resort to anywhere else in 10 minutes or less.

I love the WDW waterways!

Bay Lake is the perfect separation between reality and fantasy for us. Especially if you are taking the boat to the MK!

Also, anyone who has ever stayed at the Wilderness Lodge, Fort Wilderness, or any of the monorail hotels, has experienced the beauty of catching the resort boats right to and from your resort's dock! What a great way to start and end your day at the parks!

Crossing Bay Lake creates the feeling of truly traveling to a distant Magical Land....and the extra 10 minutes is worth it to us!

:sohappy:

It's a slow Friday afternoon and I suspect Jimbo is just trying to stir up some sort of discussion. I always enjoy his posts ("Sorry, you can't scam the meal" is my favorite).

And what about that big castle thingy? Don't you all think it should be torn down and replaced with a big climbing wall like they have in those sporting good stores?

That lake was placed there on purpose. The monorail and ferry boat are there to magically transport you to the "Magic" Kingdom. It wouldn't be very "magical" if you parked in the front and walked up to the gate.

Thanks, love the recog...

But no, just bringing up a thought or two. We park hop A LOT. Esp with little kids. When the kids are tired, it would be nice to shoot right out to the car and not take the 20 minute adventure to get there. We have also waited in the ferry line for 1 hr plus several times because we had to many wheelchairs and not enough strong pushers to get up the ramp. The wheelchair and stroller line can get REALLY LONG. Great for you if everybody in your party can walk, and are in awesome health, but not all guests are. But we hit MK at least 5-6 times a trip. That's a lot of pond jumping. This also comes from somebody that took a few small trips to WDW as a kid for single days at MK. We went with hoppers to DL all the time in middle school and HS though. I got VERY used to walking right into the park there (Pre DCA). Now it seems like a lot of extra struggle for my party to go. May not be for you. If I could pop out $450 a night for GF, sure I'd love 7SL, but I can't. So, I could do without it. I know it wouldn't work ever to do anything else, and would cost WDW billions for Monorail resort rate hikes, but as far as cost/benefit, I'm better without. And without the run-on sentences. Oops.

I understand your argument about journeys taking longer than necessary, but the whole essence of WDW is the theming. It is the extra touches and themes such as the waterways that make WDW different to the average theme park.

the flame/love ratio is about what I expected. I didn't say it sucked. I just said for me, the bads do outweigh the goods. Sorry if that hurts anybody's feelings, and feel free to fling the insults because I feel that way. Again, a few "brave" may reply with agreement. I did say that didn't I?
