the flame/love ratio is about what I expected. I didn't say it sucked. I just said for me, the bads do outweigh the goods. Sorry if that hurts anybody's feelings, and feel free to fling the insults because I feel that way. Again, a few "brave" may reply with agreement. I did say that didn't I?

Jimbo, I've got to confess that I was overjoyed when they started bringing resort guests right to the front gate. :lookaroun I especially like to stay at the Contemporary because I can just walk.

The Seven Seas Lagoon builds anticipation for your visit to the Magic Kingdom. Plus it's a buffer from the parking lot. Would you want to see a parking lot full of cars when you exited the Magic Kingdom ? I wouldn't.

You know what's weird?

When i went to DL, I stayed at Grand Cali to try and be the closest to everything.. and I still griped about the walks to everything.

At WDW, I park at Epcot and ride the monorail to MK. That makes me happy.

I think monorails, big monorails, make people happy.

Besides, that lagoon means our monorails have air conditioning and don't cruise around with the windows open and we have real monorail resorts. I'd rather have those then any of DL's "resorts."

That's why Disneyland has Hotels.

As for the monorails... The Monorail WILL have Air-Con come 2007.

Also, there are no Monorail Hotels at Disneyland - it links the Downtown Disney disctict to the park. It's just a coincidence that DLH guests can use the monorail to get to the park. It's not an included amenity.

(Admittedly, before DTD the DLH used to cover the area currently occupied by the RC, ESPN and AMC and the station did actualy link to the hotel, but that's been changed for a while now).

When I stayed at the GCH, we were close to everything and the walks to the parks, the monorail (which I used to enter the park every morning, leaving via Main Street) and Hotels/DTD were nothing compared to my daily walk to the Train Station at home - infact, the walking was quite relaxing. Security was fine, and the Main Gate CM's were great. They are here to stay, they just upgraded the turnsiles with Color LCD monitors for the APs.

The DL I remember was always walk up... and awesome with the parking lot in front. Better than shuttle busses and moving walkways like US.

We just arrived home from our trip, it drove us crazy at MK that people jump up and leave at the end of Fantasmic just to beet the crowds. It is hard work getting out at the end of the show. I do agree that it adds to the magic when going to the park, but i think it takes along time to get out and people are tired by the end of a long day.

I, for one, agree that while taking the monorail or the ferry to the MK in the morning is part of the fun, that trek at the end of a long day and evening is not something I look forward to.

The first time I visited The Magic Kingdom, I agreed with a lot of the posters in this thread. It was a wonderful way to separate the Park from the rest of the World and blah-deedy-blah-blah-blah theming. In subsequent trips, however, I find myself wishing that lake was not there. I don't want to spend an extra 15 minutes riding a ferryboat to the Park when I just got off a 5-10 minute tram ride from the parking lot and a few minute walk to the next form of transportation to the Magic Kingdom. And while I love the Monorail, it's usually swamped first thing in the morning or late at night.
I think what really turned me off to it was one of the evenings my friends and I stayed until closing a few months ago. We had to wait over 30 minutes for the ferryboat. What made it worse is that my friends have two children, one of which lost it halfway through Wishes, while the other made it as far as the queue for the ferryboat before also losing it. So, you can imagine the fun of having to wait with two whiny kids an extra 45 minutes just to get to the other side of the lake, where we had to then get on the tram.
I'm sorry, it's beautiful and all, and I like it - in theory - but I'd have preferred it if they'd simply surrounded the parking lot with huge trees to separate it from the Park instead of putting in a huge time-consuming lake.

The Lagoon is never going away. The reason it was designed and put there is to force guests to take a couple of minutes and savor. I can't hate Disney for that. It is in those 10-15 minutes that you anticpate your arrival at the Kingdom. It is also in that 10-15 minutes you savor the experience you had. And if you aren't that way, then you are way to go, go on your vacation. RELAX!

Also stay on property cause the on prop buses drop you right off at the MK gate.

Also, try walking from Universal's parking lot to their two parks.

Also, I spent two weeks at DL and had to walk all the time, now granted if you park in the regular lot the tram drops you off at DTD, but that is still a bit of a walk sometimes too.

In closing, which is how it opened - it ain't going away.

Absolutely could not disagree with the original post more. It's part of what really makes MK a more magical place than Disneyland, IMHO. Disneyland has the history, but the approach is really no more momentous than any other theme park.

The anticipation, and the sight lines, really help make the trip magical. In fact, on my first time at the MK on any trip I go the long way to the TTC first instead of taking the bus straight there cause I love to see it across the lagoon, away from the ugly parking lot.

The only people that have to go across the lagoon anyway are those that drive...just take Disney transportation. The bus brings you right to the MK.

Also, we already know it ain't going away. We just all don't necessarily care for it.
Also, we have already pointed out that we know WHY it's there, just that it takes away from valuable Disney Park time.
Also, the walk from Downtown Disney at Disneyland is nothing. It's basically the distance from the tram unload at the TTC to the ferryboat. Except at Disney World then you've also got to take another ride aboard another transport...also after waiting in its line.
Also, no one hates Disney for it. Jimbojones hates the lake and the time it eats up. And I can see his reasons, because I've also encountered them.
Also, to those who are saying if you stayed on property you could avoid the whole thing, aren't you really saying something similar? You're trying to avoid it too by taking the bus from your hotel around the lake to the drop off point by the entrance. It's fine for those who are staying on property, or who like being at the whim of the Disney bus system, but some of us can't afford to stay on property (and we like to shop, go to more affordable restaurants, etc. off property), and my few experiences on the Disney buses were long and painful. I don't care to do them again.
Also, I try to look at the lake as one of the attractions when I go, but the problem is, it's one of those attractions I do once or twice and then I've pretty much gotten tired of it. Now if they could create some theming and a story around the whole thing, that might be interesting enough to want to do it again...though I still doubt I'd be interested at 10:30 at night after waiting in a 30 minute line with cranky children.
Also, Universal? Who's talking about Universal? There's no magic there at all.
Also, I just want to throw in one last also, because I'm also done. Also.

Also, also: Please know I'm not trying to pick on you Magic Maker. I simply thought the style was interesting that you chose to use and decided to rip it off. I only argued your statements because they seemed to be pretty similar to what a lot of others have said. These are all just my opinions, and can easily be ignored...

The journey to the Magic Kingdom was carefully planned and designed by the Imagineers, as with everything else, as a story. You are transitioned from the real world into Disney World, slowly being led to a grand reveal of Cinderella Castle as you walk underneath the train tracks onto Main Street, just like you're in a movie. If you don't like the story they are trying to tell, don't go.

This thread is as pointless as a 5th park thread. Walt Disney didn't like the traffic and the noise that he had with Disneyland, come on you all have seen the video. Like someone once told me...You can wish and one hand and ________ in the other, and see which on fills up first. I nomally don't stereotype people, but your propblay the reason WDW now has Rascals! So lazy people can be lazy!

BTY, hate is such a strong word don't cha think?

Actually I “G” rated the ______ it was the software that changed it. Just go to Universal, they have covered parking and those moving sidewalks that lazy people like so much.

And I didn't even type it. I merely used the underline key. Besides, how is it lazy to not want to have to ride the ferryboat or Monorail? There's no actual work on your part there, except wasting time waiting in line, getting aboard, and standing around while it takes you to the Park. Some of us would rather spend that time WALKING around the actual Park. I only get to go once every few years, and I usually only get time to do most everything once. To have to do this "attraction" multiple times doesn't excite me...espcially if, for example, you accidentally leave something you need in your car and then have to go all the way back to get it. Kiss over 40 minutes of your day goodbye then.
