Who else HATES 7 Seas Lagoon?

I don't like the ferry at all. Last time I was on it I was like cringing to get off.... there isn't enough seats for people who need to sit down, and it's over crowded during peak season- which feels unsafe. I still love the view when on it though. I take pictures of the contemporary and wish I could afford to stay there again.

Well the title of your thread is "Who else HATES 7 Seas Lagoon?" and that implies to everyone that you think it does.

But that aside, I read why you dislike it and can see why. I know that even though I don't have strollers or wheelchairs in my party sometimes I just want to get to MK as soon as I can. But I know there is no way around it so I build it into my plans.

First off have you ever waited for the monorail at Disneyland (especially before they connected the Disneyland Hotel to the park? And the parking lot there is even farther away.

I for one am glad that WDW is not like Disneyland. Yeah you can get anywhere in 10 minutes because the place is small.

I wish Disneyland was like WDW so I did not have to fly 3,000 miles to go on vacation.

I agree with LilDucky. There is no way it takes an hour. You can be out of Disney property in half that time.

The first time I went to WDW, I thought that the 7 Seas Lagoon was a big obstacle too...of course, I took the ferry...

Now, I appreciate its beauty and last year, saw the 7 Seas Lagoon Floating Electrical Pageant.

I can't imagine the Magic Kingdom without it.

I can honestly say I've never really thought the MK would be better without the lagoon. :lol:

I understand your points, but I don't agree. In fact, even though we usually stay onsite, we try to utilize the TTC some just for the magic of arriving by monorail or ferry. Love the boat launches to the other resorts also. For those staying offsite, I guess it could be a little tiring to HAVE to use a ferry or monorail several times each way during an extended visit. That's easily fixed by staying onsite. :lol:

The lake themes the whole Kingdom (Wilderness, Contempory, Grand Floridian, Polynesian). One tip, if you are at the ticket and transportation area trying to get to the MK, use the ferry, as it can process so many more people than the monorails (and between the two, they really move a lot of guest to the entrance gates very efficiently). It takes twenty minutes tops; of course then you have to wait for the park to open anyway, and then there's the bagage check (if you need that rucksack), then the ticket turnstiles. Plus, where are you gonna fish, where?

The Seven Seas Lagoon serves it purpose theming wise as a means of separation from the parking lot to the Magic Kingdom. You park your car and are transported to a magical place. You might say the Magic Kindgdom lost some isolation when the bus depots for WDW Transportation were built allowing you to bypass the monorail and ferry boat. Prior to this, the illusion was created that the MK was only reachable via crossing or circumnavigating the Seven Seas Lagoon via monorail.

The lines you wait in for the ferry boat and monorail are now your introduction of what to expect when you get to the park and I guess if you really analyze it, build the excitement for when you finally arrive at the turnstiles.

I guess it can be a hassle for some, but I consider it a minor hassle.

I love the lake. Its just so beautiful to walk out of the MK gates at night and see a huge lake in front of you. Its just beautiful.

On our trips.. we try to plan our park hopping to make sure we travel across it as many times as possible. Same with the boat from Epcot to MGM.. always take advantage of that one too! They all to the Disney Magic for us.

Theres nothing like traveling from Dinner at the Poly on that little boat over across the Lagoon with the Magic Kingdom sparkling in the background. Then you see the big barges going past you, etc.. its just beautiful!

I honestly think that without the Lagoons and water transports to and from the different parks and restuarants that Disney World definitely be less magical.

Me and my wife also like to rent a Sea Racer together and cruise around the Lagoon ourselves also.. thats really fun and adds to our vacation.

First off..

I just literally got back from Disneyland, in California,and stayed at the Grand Californian Hotel. There is literally no way to be more "convienient" to getting in and out of things there than my location - and it was physically impossible to get into or out of the park in under 10 minutes not because of a lagoon, but because of their turnstiles.

They need biometrics instead of the stupid old fashioned CM-manned manual turnstiles that create mile-long lines.

Plus, their security lines are insanely long. It was faster to go in through the hotel's private entrance to DCA, cut through the plaza, then enter DL, then to go out and through security into the plaza then DL.

Besides, that lagoon means our monorails have air conditioning and don't cruise around with the windows open and we have real monorail resorts. I'd rather have those then any of DL's "resorts."

I think that the lagoon just adds to the magic. Besides, most parks don't have a large body of water in front of them. I like it!

Oh heck no....thats probably some of the best fishing I have ever done in my life on that lake. There is nothing like pulling up to the ferry landing on the MK side with the guide and pulling in very large bass while all the guys on the ferry are drooling and are being dragged off by their wives... :lol:

WED uses the Seven Seas Lagoon as a means of preview and anticipation. The distances and angles of sight from the monorail keep the viewer from reaching optimal vista. A viewer can see part of the castle or the park but can't see the entire park and certainly can't keep the same view from the moving monorail. Once the guests reach the turnstiles, the castle is veiled by the ultimate curtain - Main Street USA train station.

The lagoon also marks a transition from real to fantasy.

That's why you gotta have it.

Did anybody read where I said Disneyland PRE-DCA? It used to be AWESOME getting in. Just like Epcot. Not like MGM/AK where it feels like you are parking on the hip.

But seriously, who would be much more happy on a WDW vacation if there were NO BIG LAKE IN FRONT OF THE PARK. I sure would. I hate having to plan and extra hour into my day for getting to and from MK. Pretty as it may be it is a real drain over a 10 day vacation that I could do without. Brave few that do agree, you may post, but let the flames begin. Esp. those Poly folks with their awesome view.

Oh, by the way, I am one of those Poly people.

In 2-3 more years, when not having tired kids, sure, it might change. But I have been known to have some lagoon rage. (yes, the emotion describers are exagerations, but I don't take back that life at WDW would be easier w/o it for ME)

The only thing I wish was different would be to be able to swim in it again like I did as a kid. One of my first memories is staying at Poly and seeing Goofy come up on waterskis right onto the beach!

I take as much advantage of the water transport as possible. In February when we stayed at the Villas of Wilderness Lodge, while the wife took a nappy, I hopped a launch and enjoyed a nice blustery, drizzley, cool Florida day and read a book for about three hours between WL, FW, and the Contemporary.

Also, since it is actually a lagoon, I wouldnt mind seeing them put one of the old 20k subs on a track in the lagoon and have it play like its going to ram the ferry as it goes by.....talk about add to the magic. Can you imagine seeing that sub lit up under the water at night, with the wake from the nose heading for you.....that would be so sweet!!!
