The skillet is good stuff all day long for all meals! Whispering Canyon is a family favorite for us. The food and service has been consistantly good over several years now. We've been once or twice when the "show" was more off than on but I think that has a lot to do with how your server "reads" you at first. We love the place. Definitely a family must-do for us!

Try to go at lunch if you can. You can still get the skillet (which has ribs, sausage, chicken, mashed potatoes, broccoli, and corn bread) and it's something like $10 less per person.

The "show" aspect delends on your server, how they read your "mood", and the rest of the dining room. The more lively it is, the more "show" aspects there will be. If you want to get things going, ask for ketchup.

I think it has slightly different things in the skillet in the evening. We had pulled pork, corn and some kind of beef - and I don't remember sausage. We really enjoyed it, although our rather shy friend wasn't so keen. He enjoyed the food but was almost under the table whenever a server came near him - but to be fair they seemed to recognise his discomfort and left him alone!

This is one of our favorite spots to eat and enjoy ourselves which, after all, is what a vacation is all about!

While the skillet breakfast is our favorite we do enjoy the dinner as well. If we go for lunch it's usually salads and sandwiches.

Canyon Skillet
All You Care To Enjoy $28.99 per person

Smoked Pork Ribs, Pulled Pork, Oven-roasted Chicken, Beef Brisket, Mashed Potatoes, Cowboy Beans, and Corn on the Cob Mixed Greens Salad with Apple Vinaigrette, Coleslaw, and Fresh-baked Cornbread

We love the Whispering Canyon. Don't go expecting a quiet dinner and be prepared for a lot of food. They will bring out one skillet of food for everyone (family style) and will ask if you would like refills of anything.

Have fun and enjoy!

Love Whispering Canyon. We go at least once a trip and always order the skillet. For some reason this is the restaurant where my kids melt down every time...probably because of how it is placed in our trip. But it's still a great experience. Get the apple pie with the sugar cookie crust and ice cream. The queso is super tasty too. Probably the meal with the most food of any other meal...I always eat too much queso then absolutely can't eat another bite by the time the skillet gets there. Every single time we get the same waitress who doesn't put on a great show at all. But the restaurant is so open that we can enjoy others' waiters/waitresses. Overall a good experience. In the past we have sat close enough to the front that our kids could play quietly at the lincoln logs table when they couldn't bear to sit at the table one more moment.

Don't go "in between" meal times. Lunch and dinner service are both excellent, but when we went this past trip around 3:00, there was almost nobody in the restaurant and the atmosphere was kind of dead. The servers did their best but people just weren't really getting into it.

Awwww...that's sad! We went once when we were the only people there for half our meal. It was quiet and not as wild but the service was amazing. The antics felt more like family ribbing each other (very similar to DH's family get-togethers) so we enjoyed it immensely. The experience of it was different but not better or worse for us. Wish it had been like that for you, too.

Trotsky! I know we've had MT and Bridget at least twice. Love 'em! For breakfast have you had that cinnamon raisin French toast?!?! I swear I dream about that stuff! To me, it beats the legendary Tonga Toast any day. I could eat WC every day, too. Yum!:slurp:

The food is great! At least we think so. Its BBQ. Theres a fun atmosphere for everyone, especaially the kids. Make sure you get a milkshake (they're awesome!) and ask your waiter/waitress for ketchup. :D

Love this place!!! Very fun atmosphere and the food is good! I never personally ate the skillet, but from the several times I been there, there was sure a lot of people in the place eating it!

Thanks for starting the thread, Crush! Whispering Canyon will be our first meal when we arrive at Wilderness Lodge in September. We've made reservations for our group to enjoy a good meal together after what will likely be a long day of travel, especially with an 11 month old!

Sounds like we are in for a real treat and should be a great way to kick off the vacation!
