While Disney has been fooling around with RFID bracelets...

Isn't it telling that the company that still trots out the Waltism that 'We have enough land here for all the timeshares and real estate developments we can possibly imagine' is a traffic-clogged nightmare that has been selling off parcels of land since the 90s, while that competitor that no one ever gives enough credit to is actively buying land and making what they have count.

BTW, how's Flamingo Crossing coming along? Oh, no ... OK, what say you guys/gals about Hyperion Wharf? Oh, I see. ... But, seriously, they must be ready to build that second ring of nations in the World Showcase with 18 nations now at EPCOT? WHAT, you gotta be playing with me. So, how many E-Tickets has the MK added since tickets crossed the $50 a day barrier? ... I give up!!! Someone ...anyone ...please pass the Pixie Dust!

I dance & dance while you sing the song! Such fun when your eyes are wide open. Can you believe IIIIII have earned the title of "selfish" for refusing to fall backward and close my eyes again? :)

It's going to be interesting to see what kind of theme park Universal Creative can think up. If their Asia parks are a good indicator (or the plans for Universal Dubailand (holy cow!) or Moscow) this is going to be really cool times.

A good question, any former (or soon to be) WDI folks going to be involved? Very exciting stuff.

Dubai is still possible, but back burnered now behind US developments, South Korea and Russia.

This is such an exciting time for Uni. And for theme park lovers who aren't insanely loyal to WDW. :)
I could see this as a good thing even to people who are loyal to WDW. As someone else said, I hope this eventually kicks off a huge theme park war between Universal and Disney. Doesn't matter whether you like one or the other or both, competition is a healthy thing for customers.

The only problem is if Disney continues to refuse they've got serious competition now and just allows Universal to build an empire while they just sit back and do nothing to try to prevent this. If they wait too long to start putting more effort into their projects, it's going to bite them in the and make it even more difficult to salvage their customer base.

There needs to be a little more economic and political healing for a major US company to build a theme park in Russia.

I believe it's being backed by a Russian billionaire, who's already put the money up for it. So it's happening. And I believe it's getting its own indoor water park as well, which looks pretty cool from the limited artwork that's out there.

Disney gave up on trying to compete with Uni. Disney thinks people will just keep on coming, no matter what.

There is no war. There isn't even a battle. Disney isn't getting out of bed.
UNI still has A LOT of catching up to do. These new expansions are a great step for them though.

Could South Korea be UNI's answer to TDS?

Doubt it. I would think Universal Studios Japan in Osaka would be UNI's answer to DisneySea.

http://www.usj.co.jp/e/index.html

South Korea and Japan don't have a very deep friendship (plenty of hard feelings left over from the way Japan behaved in the 1930's and 40's), and Universal already has a park in Osaka about 2.5 hours south of Tokyo via bullet train. So if there's a Disney/Uni rivalry to be had in Japan, it can stay on the home islands without crossing the Sea of Japan.

Disney competes where it feels it has to. The company is pouring billions into its P&R division. All over the globe ....it is just that in O-Town it largely is in NGE, while other resorts get shiny new bling.

And that just fascinates me.

And now DCA is rumored (cough, Al Lutz, cough) to get Monstropolis and a Door Coaster E Ticket for 2016?!? On top of all that DCA and Disneyland already got in the last five years? And all that WDW did not get in the last five years?

The Disneyland Resort marketplace can only grow so much. It pulls from a huge swath of the world, from Calgary to Sydney to Seoul and everything in between. But a huge chunk of that market is ocean. Not that DCA doesn't need another big coaster thrill ride, because that will be great when it opens in three years. But if they can go gonzo like this with new E Tickets and expansion in Anaheim, you would think that would equate to at least something in Orlando besides another vague shot of white guys staring at green Styrofoam that may or may not become a ride of some sort based on a movie no one really cares about.

How does that happen? I just don't understand it.

I don't know about that. I'm not a Uni expert, never been in any of their Florida parks, but I'd say they're kicking Disney's . Adding on to existing parks, now land for another park, they are creating consumer excitement and a desire to go to their parks, and you just know that Comcast wants to stick it to Disney for being shot down on the attempt to purchase Disney.

I'm as die hard/loyal Disney as they come, but even I'm going to venture over to Uni on one of my trips next year. Hell, I may even do an all Uni trip.

Universal is definitely getting half my time next visit and depending on the final price of their new resort I may stay there and travel to Disney. Yes universal has a LOT of catching up to do.... In the area of time shares and meet and greets! Meanwhile universal is adding attractions and Disney is replacing or removing them.

You are not giving disney enough credit. Clearly you are forgetting about the brand new Fantasy land "expansion" which significantly increased MK's footprint right? Not to mention the rumored DHS "expansions" for carsland and star wars land which will likely double DHS's size, because it isn't like they plan to get rid of attractions to build new ones right? Then there is the ultimate potter swatter known as the mythical land of Pandora which will turn AK into a full day park. With all these new attractions they need somewhere to put guests, hence all the timeshare real estate development.

Dhs is totally old! Think of it as a "park reboot".
