Which Moderate?

Hey everyone, going to Disney from May 7th - 14th, 2011. I got a good deal on Animal Kingdom Lodge but I still feel like it's a lot of money and I'm thinking MAYBE changing to a moderate since it would be more budget friendly and honestly it's pretty out of the way.

It's a first time visit for my fiance and although I've been to Disney a handful of times I've never stayed on-site so I guess you can say it'll be a first for me too :animwink:

Coronado doesn't really interest me so it would be a choice between Caribbean, PORS or POFQ. We won't be renting a car so we'll be relying on buses. I also plan on coming back to the resort for a few afternoon breaks. Any suggestions...advice?

Thanks
Rach

I would go with POFQ because of its small size. The other two are massive.

However, why are you not interested in Coronado? That's a mod that has the look and feel of a deluxe.

I'm not sure why Coronado doesn't interest me. I look at the pics and read about it and I don't feel it...lol. I do keep going back to POFQ so it very well may be that one!

I prefer CBR for it's more central location. I'm with you on not being excited about CS and I just think Port Orleans is just way out there on the fringe at DTD.

But you'll be find whereever you decide. You'll be at WDW!!!

First do a search...we have dozens of posts on the moderates with thousands of opinions...

That being said I no longer stay at any of the resorts except POFQ for size, sheer convenience (the busses are probably the best of all the moderates) and the boat to DTD. It's also less crowded; has far fewer young children; and is ideal for adults. I was in a refurbished room a few weeks ago and it's lovely...flat screen tv and all.

As to being too remote...HUH? it's one of the most convenient resorts for all the parks...4 minutes by bus to Epcot, 5 each to MK and Hollywod studios, and 8 minutes to MK. Plus the boat to DTD.

Ya know, POFQ's rooms are currently getting overhauled & are set to be finished in the spring. POFQ will have the freshest moderate rooms.

Oooohh, I didn't know they were getting overhauled, POFQ sounds better and better. I like the boat to DTD and I like that it's smaller too.

POFQ is a great resort. The boat ride to DTD is a plus, and you can walk or ride to POR and enjoy that resort also. There are carriage rides around the resort and the piano play at POR is one of the best entertainers on property.

I didn't know the rooms were being refurbished but that is an added bonus for me too.

We're staying at Port Orleans:French Quarter in the Spring for 4 nights. Been there before and I loved the theme. Simple, but still very well-themed. I recall it being quite convenient and the bus rides were not long. The more quiet atmosphere is nice, too. As others are also saying, I think this is the one you should go for.

We stayed at PORS and CB and of the two, we prefer RS. The overall theme has us hooked as we are booked for there again in the summer. I am intrigued by the smaller size and convenience of POFQ but I am not in love with the theming like I am at RS. Don't think you can go wrong with either!

- looks like I was a few minutes late! Congratulation on your choice and enjoy you trip!

I love AKL, POFQ AND POR! I doubt you'd be unhappy with any choice really. But my 2 cents is that if you feel this will be your only trip to wdw for a few years or longer I would go for the gusto and do akl. True you spend few hours in that expensive room but the theming and dining options there are unlike anything anywhere else in the world. If the savings are a major factor than PO will not disappoint either. One suggestion is to make a reservation at boma or jiko for a dinner while on your trip. you can grab a late afternoon bus from a park and check out the amazing lobby, stroll out to the overlook of the savanna and maybe grab a drink at victoria falls lounge and have an amazing/relaxing meal. then you can sample the highlights of AKL w/o the price tag....Have a wonderful trip!

POFQ is very nice, but it lacks nightlife, and also has the smallest beds of all resorts, including values. This was a major setback for us, and we are not big people, 140lbs and 165lbs. It was a nightmare. CBR is great all around, own busses, more relaxing atmosphere, the only setback is the foodcourt, but at least they have one, whereas POFQ does not.
