Hi all

My DW and i are taking some time out from the world after 10 fantastic trips and not returning till 2013 ( when the majority of the FLE has been completed)
Since it is such a gap we are looking to go Duluxe and would like some advice on which way to go.The only 2 which are a definate no are the Grand Foridian and the Contempery.
Looking forward to hearing everyones opinions and experiences ( good or bad )

I'd split it up, with one half at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, Savannah View. The other half, I'd defer to where you think you'd spend the most time on that trip. More time at MK - Poly (Wilderness 2nd choice). More time at Epcot and/or Studios - Yacht Club (Boardwalk 2nd choice). More time shopping at DTD, a 1BR at Saratoga.

It depends which park you want to spend more of your time in. I'm an Epcot nut, so I love staying at the Beach Club. The 7 minute walk into Epcot is fabulous.

I suggest Wilderness Lodge, Animal Kingdom Lodge or Yacht Club. Honestly though, they all have their pros and cons so pick one that you feel best suits your tastes and where you'll spend most of your time on property.

Well, my signature line kind of says it. In our experience the Epcot location can't be beat, but Boardwalk has never appealed. Last trip and this upcoming trip, we spent and will spend 3/4ths of our time at Beach Club, then moved to Animal Kingdom Lodge to "do" Animal Kingdom. Unlike some who feel AK is a "half-day" park, we're on the other extreme, and for us AK is a 2-3 day experience. Everyone is passionate about their favorite resort, and to us nothing says "Disney" like Beach Club (and it's not that the architecture is so different for us, as we're from New England). Now, if only Art hadn't retired....

We tried Yacht Club several visits ago, and unlike some didn't find their CM's "stuffy," but did spend 3 days there without hot water, which kind of soured us for YC. Some of their rooms are also a significantly longer walk than BC. OF course, if your thing tends more to Magic Kingdom than Epcot, your mileage may vary. . . . . .:)

We've split our last few trips in half. We did the first half at Bay lake Tower or The Boardwalk Villas (near the parks, with hustle and bustle), the retreated to the serenity (now!) of Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Since you said not The Contemporary, I'd suggest half at the Polynesian or the Boardwalk, and half at the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Do you and your wife prefer to be closer to the MK because of the FLE, or do you not have a preference, geographically-speaking?

In the Parks
No
sorry thought it read you were going for 10 days and i see you dont want GF or Cont. so id still say an epcot resort (yacht or beach because of the pool) or poly the walks to epcot and HS are great from those resorts and poly makes transportation so easy

After 5 straight years of trips, I'll also take off 2012 before returning in 2013.
I love your idea of returning to a Deluxe.

You're asking for opinions, so I'll go ahead and give my Favorite and Overrated list (while probably ticking a few people off in the process)

My Awesome 3!

While some don't like its location, the Animal Kingdom Lodge is my favorite "stand alone" resort.
Its awesome restaurants, pool, lounge, gift shop, and lobby are unmatched.
Throw in a savanna view room = Perfection.

The Boardwalk Resort puts you figuratively and literally at "The Center of WDW".
You can feel it.
And what a feeling!

The Wilderness Lodge also has a very special feeling that's hard to explain.
As soon as you leave it, you'll be wanting to go back.

The Overrated 3!

The Poly. Grounds are beautiful. But the restaurants, lounge, pools, and property in general are pretty much always packed with people. Blame the monorail line I guess.
And no jacuzzi? What????
Save a Polynesian experience for the real thing in Hawaii or the South Pacific.

The Yacht Club.
The Beach Club.
Stormalong Bay is overrated, plain and simple. Too crowded and not themed as well as it should be.
I strongly prefer the AKL's Jambo House's Uzima Pool or Boardwalk's Luna Park pool.
So in my mind, it makes no sense to stay here when the superior Boardwalk is just across the water.

Have fun, and let us know when you make your choice.

We have no location preference as we have stayed at all stars/pop century and CSR previous and never had an issue with "how drasticly far away the theme parks are"
we also dont want to split between two resorts as it seems kinda strange to pack up and move in the middle of our holiday.
with all the comments on here and a UK forum we are tending to lean towards WL or AKL(savannah view) but please keep advising.

having looked at youtube/peoples photos of all the deluxe i kinda agree with what you are saying here as the theming seems kinda plain in a lot of the hotels mentioned.sure i dont want lion king or nemo plastered everywhere but the Wl and AKL seem jawdropping rather than nice

In total favor of AKL! It is so amazing to wake up and see animals roaming the savanna's from your balcony! Great dining options to choose from there as well... Boma quickly has become our favorite buffet and you can not go wrong eating at Jiko, or so it should seems from the rave reviews of the place.

The atmosphere is so amazing, It is so nice to return HOME after a long day in the parks and relax in such a serene atmosphere. You can't go wrong louging in one of the plush sofas in the lobby or rocking in the rocking chairs by the fire pit at night!
