There was a rather long landing strip across the boat canal near the Contemporary. Years ago you could see quite a few corporate type jets parked there. It paralleled the monorail and ended by the road to FW. It’s long gone now and seems to be used for construction storage. I also believe it may have been a bus driver training area at one time.
It's not long gone and is easily visible on the monorail between MK and Epcot. In recent years there have been used, as you say, for storage trailers and other equipment. It still exists but it has not been used as a runway for many decades. Once Epcot area construction started it seemed rather fool hardy to have plays taking off and landing with a flight path either over or very near Epcot and crossing the Monorail track.

The use as a landing strip is long gone. No kidding it’s still there as another use. I’m sure there were other reasons why the decision was made to discontinue its original use other than your Epcot theory.

I believe I had read or heard that with the pylons being there, the approach angle would have been too steep for most planes to land there.

Not technically correct. While It's normal use is currently storage, When The President is scheduled to visit WDW the runway is cleared of obstructions so it can serve as a landing pad for the helicopters. If I recall we last saw this happen when Obama made a visit in 2012 and again with Michelle Obama in 2013. There's threads on this forum talking about them clearing the runway for this purpose but I don't have time to find them.

You mean he wasn’t trespassed when he got kicked out of DL when he was young when he was caught smoking on a ride? 🤔

I believe that is what I said. Even if it wasn't the total reason it would still have to approach over World Drive or close to it.

nope.

Still, the former president wasn't banned forever. In fact, the officers told him he and his pals could come back anytime.

In fact, Disney CEO Bob Iger reinforced this notion by tweeting "he can always come back, as long as he doesn't smoke!"

Does the fact that the registration is still valid mean that they could be working on making the plan airworthy and able to fly itself to California?

nope.

Odd rules, Walt was a heavy smoker , smoking if I recall was allowed in parks but one is escorted out of the park for smoking? I get that maybe not in ride. Gone are the days where one can light up pretty much anywhere, then about 15 years ago “ smoking sections “ in the parks then no smoking in park at all.

At his age I think that smoking in the parks was allowed then, however, smoking on a ride was not. In other words, it simply wasn't a big deal at the time.

It used to play "when you wish upon a star" when planes landed. (Grooves similar to the strips on the sides of highways.)

I listened to it in a video somewhere a long time ago, but I can't find it anymore.

So, technically it’s a landing zone when a dignitary lands their Helo there.

If one lands in Epcot there is a private landing pad behind the Land/Soarin. Seen helicopters land/take off when at Soarin.
