Where is the old Epcot Fountain prism?

Wow, I had completely forgotten that fountain ever existed. Very cool looking indeed. I hate the Leave-A-Legacy garbage there now (even though my Family left a legacy ). Someone here had an avatar that had their child putting their hands on the Leave-a-legacy "tombstones" and it was captioned "Never Forget," as if someone had died. VERY comcical!

You called?

I remember someone (maybe Mouse Surplus), on this forum, saying that they had become yellow over time because of the sun. It could have been the sun, or it could have just been jealousy. Jealousy that the Legacy tomb stones took all the attention away, it then cracked it self while attempting to run away in shame. Shame that a bunch of ugly rocks took all the fame, and shame that there will be nothing left in his place.

It`s the same base. Instead of mosaic tiles it has the dappled lumps added and was recoloured.

I am surprised the structure was able to hold the granite and the concrete holding it in place.

Plexiglass gets very disgusting after a while. I heard it was cracked during all the work happening around it. Probably because the idiots who were stupid enough have tomb stones installed didn't put the prism in a safe place :hammer: ( I have always wanted to use that face LOL). I am surprised they didn't goof up enough to have a granite prism installed.

I think one of the reasons why the fountain isn't there anymore is because Disney doesn't produce the pavilion logo signs... wasn't a good bit of them replaced around 1999?

Horizons (1999), Universe of Energy (1996), Communicore (1994), World of Motion (1996), Imagination (1999), The Land (1995)

The only logos you had left were these..

Wonders of Life (2007), The Living Seas (2006)

which then closed. :p

I think that Disney was fazing out the EPCOT logos and this was one of them they needed to faze out...

True... Epcot went thru some dramatic changes. The logos seemed to go along with the rides. Just in case you haven't noticed, Spaceship Earth has its logo again in an updated form. It is on both signs. I hope they keep on making them for each ride. It seems like they are coming back with the original format slowly or at least that plain simple look.

It was a very strong, complicated base with water lines, lighting channels and equipment for the prisms, support for them and a whole lot of other things. The tiles were just the covering.

Bring back the prism!

I need it to emotionally start and finish my day at EPCOT Center. I need it just as much as the view down Main Street on the castle. SSE is incomplete without it, I'm lost, can't fix my gaze.

Surely with the current eighties revival and the love for EPCOT retro now would be a good time to re-install it? :sohappy:

Anyone else notice that the fountain can be seen on the Spaceship Earth web site? It's odd that they would use such an old photo.

It's not so odd - anybody can see the visual power of the combo of SSE and the prism.

The picture was probably picked by an editor who didn't know the prism was gone. (S)he simply picked the best looking picture of SSE, which naturally is one including the prism.:animwink:

I disagree with the idea of not replacing the prisms. They should put something similar in it's place. If they had a problem with them getting dirty, then clean them more often.

Perhaps the photo was chosen because during that era, SSE was lit at night with rotating color schemes to project different atmospheric "moods" upon the geosphere.

Speaking of which, what is the status of the nighttime lighting coloration of SSE? Back when the Wand was coming down there was discussion about how the color rotation was halted due to the Wand's effective obstruction, so that there was only one color scheme all the time. Is that still the case or have/will rotating color schemes made/make a comeback?

Epcot just needs to get over the Millennium Celebration all together. To me the leftovers seem so out of place. Leave a legacy looks even more out of place with the new landscapes and contrast that surounds Spaceship Earth. I dont see why they picked granite. It doesn't match at all, cement or tile tombstones would look much better. A fountain with a prism would look very sharp with the new Spaceship Earth color scheme and landscapes.

The Epcot park logo is still used, although sparingly. I think the fountain should be restored to it's original glory with a new centerpiece and the pavilion logos should return. SSE has it's new one and Energy, The Land and Imagination are still around, all we need are logos for Mission: SPACE, Test Track, Innoventions and The Seas with Nemo and Friends.

Remember the flower logo was brought back with the new drop off area crowd gates and the fountain railings?
