I’ve always felt that this was a wonderful, smallish (but not too small), city in which to live. A “leave your door unlocked, know your neighbours, walk the streets comfortably after dark” kind of place.
And then the drug dealers moved in. Big time. Big time drug dealers. Big time drug problems. Big time people dying; my brother and many of his friends among them.
Today, three young men, all aged 23, all schoolmates of Ski (but thankfully not friends) were arrested for possession of 784 grams (that’s about 1 3/4 lbs to you) of Fentanyl, a quantity of opioid pills, a couple of guns, lots of ammo, a hydraulic press (to make pills), lots of cash, and two high end vehicles.
There was also a shooting today (presumably unrelated) by police - the first time a Brantford Police Services officer has discharged his weapon in almost 5 years. There was a tragic targeted fatal shooting of an elderly couple last week to make an example of what happens when your PoS kid takes off owing money to drug dealers.
Remember how I used to boast that Brantford only ever had one murder every couple of years, and that it was almost always a domestic, seldom involving a gun? Yeah well, not anymore. There have been 23 gun “incidents” this year alone, which included 10 people being shot, four of them fatally.
The RCMP have moved into town. This is the second huge drug bust involving local men in the past two weeks.
How much damage can you do with 784 grams of Fentanyl? How many deadly pills can you make? How many more dead addicts and first time idiots have been spared? Ski says these three were trouble even in high school, but how sad. 23 years old and hopefully going away for a very long time.
Dead from an overdose is forever. These punks will each get less than 10 years. Betcha.
