Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

We’re having a doozy of a storm right now. Took Daisy out for a quick pee, and the weather is fit for neither man nor beast.

It’s actually been snowing on and off (mostly on) since last night, with intermittent squalls and heavy drifting. It was so windy last night that I finally broke down and went to turn on the heat. Turns out that the Super has to turn on the rads in each apartment every year. I regretfully called him just before 9pm. I could have sucked it up and just piled on the blankies, but I have a teeny tiny dog and two kitties to worry about.

Dave was actually a good sport about it. I asked him if I was the last person in the building (58 apartments) to activate their heat, and he laughed and said, “By months!”
I think I've shared before that last year I turned my heat on in my apartment for just a few days in January when it was -30 out. I only turned it on this year so far when it was -30 out. Otherwise everyone below and around me keep me warm.

On a side note, it got to 50 degrees today! It was windy as can be and didn't feel like it, but I walked into the grocery store after work with no coat on. It was glorious. Unfortunately I have morning recess duty, so it's still cold when I go out, and I don't get to enjoy the days when it's nicer in the afternoon.

I’ve only ever felt one earthquake … but I really felt it. September 25, 1998 - Google variously describes it as either 5.2 or 5.4 with the epicentre in Pyntanung, PA.

I was driving home from work and my car literally shifted sideways on the highway. It was terrifying because my brain was fighting with reality - cars don’t move laterally, and yet for a second or two, mine did. Not a swerve like a wind gust … literal sideways movement.

Earthquakes happen multiple times per day across the country, but they’re imperceptible - detectable by sensitive seismic-measuring equipment only.

Earthquakes aren’t really something Canadians worry too much about. Except for reports of one death in an earthquake in Montreal in 1732, nobody has ever been killed by a quake in Canada.

I had a 6th grade teacher (Mr. Dawson) that was in the San Fernando Valley quake of ‘71, that occurred at 6a on Feb. 9th. He was staying with his wife at his in-laws house, and said they were jolted awake, and then the bed started moving across the bedroom.
That was a 6.6 quake and, unfortunately, his in-laws home did sustain damage.
We have very small quakes here in Texas, from time to time, but they’re usually undetectable by the residents.
We also have a fault (the Balcones Fault) that runs through the hills of west Austin, but it’s been inactive for 10K+ years.

Pretty much the same here. This is a building populated mostly by seniors, and they keep their apartments WARM! All of our windows face south, which means lots of sun. We also face the courtyard, which means that the building next door generally blocks the rare wind from the south.

Last night was an exception due to the extremely high wind and squalls.

I’ve got the heat off now, via the thermostat; but until Dave came and activated the rads, the thermostat was just a wall ornament.

The bedroom window is again wide open, with the drapes open. The regular two tower fans are also on. 😂

Amen to that. Unfortunately I don't think most perpetrators of this type of crime get much more than a slap on the wrist. I guess we'll see.

Yep, seems to be the trend these days, and it’s absolutely disgusting.
If you don’t mind, please keep us informed in regard to the recovery of the young lady, and the legal action against the psycho perp.
Again, many prayers for her.

According to her mom, the surgery went well and the plastic surgeon doesn't think there will be any scarring...just that it will look like she has a dimple on that side, so that's good. And the swelling is pretty much gone, but but mentally, she's struggling, which I can totally understand. She's written a victim impact statement to read at the trial, but I haven't heard anything about when that will be, or if they will even progress to an actual trial. I guess most of these things just end up being settled without a trial, with a plea bargain or dropped charges. I sure hope they don't drop the charges!

Before we went to pick up Matt (we got him an order to go) from work tonight, Carolyn and I enjoyed a nice meal at our local Casa Garcia’s…
Chips and salsa, my Dos Equis Ambar Especial, and my chicken flautas with rice and refried beans, and a bit of guac, sour cream, lettuce and tomato…!!!!! :hungry:

Thank you for responding.
Very glad to hear the physical aspects of the attack on her will be, mostly, resolved.
With any kind of head trauma, especially losing consciousness, you just never know.
I’ll continue to pray for her emotional recovery, as well, and hope the perp gets some serious jail time.
I know that back in the day, men that were in jail for abusing/brutalizing children and women were even considered low-life scum by fellow inmates.
Maybe there are so many of them in prison for stuff like that these days, that it just doesn’t matter anymore…?!
Makes me shudder.
Anyway, thanks for the update, and please continue to do so, if so inclined.

Sorry to hear that.
It’s Texas, so we’ve, fortunately, got Mexican/Tex-Mex food (and BBQ) comin’ outta’ our Mexican/Tex-Mex food…!!!!! :hilarious: ;)
Carolyn always orders the cheese enchiladas with ranchero sauce plate. Sorry, no pics of her plate, but maybe that’s for the best…!!! ;)
Carolyn also makes killer beef and cheese enchiladas (her Moms recipe) that are amazing…!!!!! :hungry:
There are tons of recipes online, so maybe you could find enough ingredients to make some decent ones yourself…?!!! :)

They aren't easy but they're not hard to make from scratch. Might be a fun thing for you and E to make together
We already looked up some recipes, but we have to wait until we have time to test them out. Today is my last day at my job, and E had a test yesterday and now has a week off because she doesn't have to do any retakes of tests because she already passed everything. So we might be able to do something this week, but I just came down with some respiratory thing...not sure what it is, but it's uncomfortable. I'm not really motivated to do a lot.

My mom had an enchilada recipe that she made when I was growing up, but it was definitely not authentic and I didn't like it. I remember it was topped with American cheese, and had black olives in it. Not my thing. But I don't want to use that recipe....I want real, autentic ones, like you get in a restaurant run by an actual family from Mexico.

The like is for E passing her tests and for you leaving that toxic words best not used here
