@PUSH and @ajrwdwgirl
I'd like to wish both of you a good 2024 -2025 school year.
May you have many nice students that brighten your days and great health so you can be there often to brighten their days as well. ;)

Thank you, same to you and @PUSH as well. I had to report back on Wednesday this week for inservice. Yesterday we had an open house day, got to meet a few new students and reconnect with some I've had before. Next week the students will be there in full swing and of course next week is looking to be some of the hottest temperatures we've had all summer!

We start inservice next week, then kids come back after Labor Day. Our open house is next Thursday.

No sir. It's totally voluntary. Yet a classroom teacher has so much to do, even though they don't get paid to come in...they kinda have to. Waiting until Professional day concludes on Tues. Sept. 3rd and Sept. 4th and "staying late" wouldn't likely cut it. Agree?
Agreed. We don't get any contracted time to set up our rooms, either. It's all unpaid, but like you said... if we don't do it, there is no way we'll be ready for the first day. It takes multiple days of work to get it ready.

@Goofyernmost , here's some VT news for you. Heard about this sale yesterday, and it's good that some local residents bought Killington. I think the main benefit is that they live in the community, and really want to see the ski area succeed. (They mentioned it did well under the previous company), but that they could add additional local enhancements.

The ski industry in Vermont really is the biggest multi-month business that Vermont has. Killington is a great location because it is in the southern part of the state very close to large population areas of Mass. and Conn. so it is a solid investment. At least it is until climate change makes Vermont a winter snow bird location and the south becomes a winter wonderland. I don't think I will still be around for that, but I'm starting to believe that might happen.

It's the last day of summer break. 😢

This may have been my favorite summer as a teacher. I did a lot of fun stuff, especially in June and August. A friend's wedding, two weeks in Disney, hiking at Governor Dodge, hiking at Devil's Lake, an overnight waterpark trip, Wisconsin Badgers football practice, a golf outing fundraiser, Mississippi River Museum, bike riding, just spending time with friends and family. I'm not ready for it to end!

Also, we go back tomorrow with a heat index near 110 degrees, in a building without AC. That will be fun.

It has been a fantastic summer, I didn’t want it to end either. We have one last day tomorrow of inservice then kiddos come on Tuesday.

We too have the same weather forecast for tomorrow and no air conditioning in our classrooms. I might have to visit the office a lot, that has ac. It is supposed to be cooler the rest of the week but packing 30 bodies in a windowless ac-less classroom isn’t great. We have never closed for excessive heat but who knows.

Our office area has AC, too, and some of our interior rooms. I hope they crank the AC up in those rooms and try to force it into other areas.
