Day 2 of 187 is done! Okay, I promise I won't do that after every day. 😂

I'm tired again. We had several more meetings, but they were more tolerable. I was on the team presenting in one, so that made it better.

I'm pretty much ready for open house. I just have to find a custodian to vacuum my carpet.

Today at school it was so hot and humid. The temp in my room was in the near 90, the real feel temp was 108, and the floors in the whole school had a layer of water on it. The water was from the condensation from the humidity. By the afternoon it was super dangerous in the hallways but there wasn't anything the janitors could do. The maintance guy said he could turn on the heat to take away the humidity, obviously no one was into that! At one point I had to walk from my room to the other end of the building and I thought it was safer to go outside and walk around the building to get there. My room is very near an exit door and where I needed to go was our front office near a door, so I risked heat over slipping and falling. Tomorrow is our open house, our principal said if the floors are like that in the morning the open house might be postponed. Apparently the district doesn't want others to slip, fall, and sue the district.

Our building wasn't too bad. I'm not saying it was comfortable, but not awful. Some rooms were hot, but I kept most of my lights off when I was working in my room in the afternoon. I've also had a fan in my doorway blowing in "cool" air from the hallway since I got there Tuesday morning. We've been told to all keep our blinds closed, and we can only use specific doors to come in and out of the school.

Cancelling our open house was discussed, but I think we've kept the building cool enough to get by. A bunch of us teachers are going out for drinks afterwards. We'll need them just to cool down!

On the other hand, my apartment is really warm. I haven't had the air on all day. I stopped home after work for about 5 minutes before I went to my parents'. So there's been no air conditioning all day, and I'm trying to force the AC from the living room into the bedroom, which has no AC.

That’s awful! Schools started here this week in the middle of the longest and worst heatwave since the 1940s, and very few (if any) have air conditioning. Temperatures are supposed to hit triple digits today. They just announced last night that presence the next two afternoons is "optional" for sixth grade and below (parents can decide if they want their child to go back after the lunch break) and for the older kids the school‘s administration can decide if any or all classes will be cancelled. At least the end is finally in sight - between the high today and the low on Saturday there will be a 40 degree difference!

I would right before bed take a cold shower , then 5 mg melatonin then drift off to sleep but waking up in the morning could be sweating then another cold shower.

Yikes. Does your school allow for any classes outdoors? I was thinking that maybe there might be some "air" at least out there, but if there's no shade, then it's not much better than inside the building.

When is this heat wave in your area, supposed to clear out?

These heat waves are terrible. It is nice that schools are giving students & parents choices. I wish we, as staff, had been given flex time yesterday. I had a lot of computer work to do and I honestly I could have done it all from home in my air conditioning. Oh well, the end of our heat wave is coming soon too, at least for now.

We could have class outdoors if it suited our purposes. Luckily there are no kids this week. Today is our district open house from 12-8pm so parents and students might drop by our room and visit but the kids mostly just want to test out their lockers and organize them.

It is still very humid here. I'm sitting on my porch this morning and it is really foggy and kind of looks like it is raining but not raining (if that makes any sense). The heat and humid should be breaking today and next week promises to be much more manageable. So I guess we will just plug along. Our district is going to be putting a building upgrade referendum on the ballot in the spring and AC/climate control is on the list for upgrades for that. So actually the more people who can experience how horrible our building can be in the heat & humidity may help our cause in the spring and getting it passed.
