I definitely don't regret booking our flight with an 18 hour stop. I got a hotel for the night and it was a life saver to break it up a bit.

Would there be a nonstop flight to this island that not many people go to? Sounds like a connection would be necessary anyway.

An 18 hour stop is lovely, almost like a sight-seeing day. It’s the 2-5 hour connections that don’t appeal to me. Too little time to do anything, too big of a chance that any kind of delay getting in will cause you to lose your connection. Sometimes they transfer your luggage, sometimes they don’t. Sometimes they transfer your luggage onto a totally wrong plane.
I’ve willingly paid a hundred or so more per person for a direct flight. I certainly wouldn’t pay $500 more.

That 2 to 5 hours is necessary if it's international and you have to go through immigration. I won't take a shorter connection.

Pretty sure it’s 6 hrs. U.K. is 5 hrs ahead of ET. Not sure about Toronto but I think NY and NJ are on ET.
Yes flying from Manila to an island off of Boracay. Transfer to a bus ride then transfer again to a ferry boat to take all to Boracay. My friend said he regretted the exhausting trip from East Coast to Philippines with multiple connections and several hour layovers.

Your opinion, my friend regretted the long exhausting trip to get to PI, said would never go that route again. Your weird non stop regret post is straight up bizarre. Give you an F.

It depends on the layover and the itinerary.
If the layover is after an international flight I would always allow 2 hours to get through immigration - and back through security if changing terminals. It’s unlikely any airline would give you less than 90 minutes anyway.
An extra 2 hours or so allows time for a proper meal before the next leg.
As for luggage transfer the rules depend on whether you are staying in the country you’ve just arrived at.
So flying U.K. - Iceland - US then the bags will be transferred between flights in Iceland. And the connection can be 45 minutes because it’s one long building and you go in one door and queue at the next gate after a restroom break.
But if I arrive in the US at EWR and then fly on to Orlando, then at Newark I have to go through immigration and customs. And the luggage has to be collected before that and then dropped off again before going through security.
@Mr Ferret 88 , we found Philly the easiest US transfer! Sailed through, no delays, all smooth and seemless even having to collect the luggage. Everything seemed to match up really well timewise.

But...you said they sacrificed the non-stop flight so they could treat the whole family to the trip. They wouldn't have been able to go with the extended family if they had done that. I certainly wouldn't regret that. If I had to choose between a non-stop flight or spending time with my family, I'd take a connection any day. Those memories are well worth it. And I couldn't afford a non-stop flight anyway. it would be a choice between going on vacation or not. I'd regret nothing.

That makes sense , my friend and neighbor feelings about the long voyage was very clear to me. He's got a dilemma on his hands. Other family members he did not invite and pay for showed up at Boracay that he found out a few days ago. They paid their own way there including lodging. He advised they are the type of individuals that show up at a huge gathering and expect and look at him to pay the bill when the server comes with the check. When some see someone from USA is coming to town, they see dollar signs $$$. He's learned from experience. I don't appreciate @Ferret's ridiculing of my posts but that's not surprising.

We generally only fly to Orlando (from Buffalo), so a short layover and plane/terminal change in Atlanta is totally worth paying to skip.
We also fly to the Caribbean (from Toronto), but those have always been direct flights.
But yeah, I hear ya. It’s not always possible to fly direct.

Thank you I don't drink soda but will gladly take a wine or coffee
