I haven't had soda/pop in about 5 years but over Easter when I was at Disneyland my niece texted me and asked me to buy a special 100th anniversary souvenir cup for her. It came with a choice of beverage and I decided to get a Diet Coke. I used to love Diet Coke. Well I took about 2-3 sips and then threw it away, it was just so sweet and weird tasting. The next day when I bought a different mug for myself I got coffee as the drink, a much better choice! ;) :)

I guess I have had ginger ale/ginger beer but that has been in adult beverages. Usually if there is soda in an adult beverage, like 7-Up or Sprite I ask for Club Soda to be used as the replacement.
When I vacationed in Jamaica I drank a soft drink in a bottle called ginger beer from the island. It was delish with some beef patties for lunch and a huge ripe mango for dessert. Ginger beer I can find in Caribbean small mom and pop groceries stores here in the USA . I love it with the strong taste of ginger in the soft drink.

Ginger beer is delicious with vodka, a splash of lime, and either cranberry or pomegranate juice. Ginger beer is sold in our regular grocery stores and in the liquor stores.

You assumed I told my friend he would regret it, I explained to my buddy about his non stop would be better since he had 4 young kids and his wife with him. He texted me he regretted talking the long route to his country as opposed to a long non stop flight
Let me ask you this. Did he ASK you for that advice or did you just tell him what he should do based on your preferences? That's the issue for me. If I ASK someone for their advice, or if we're just talking and someone says "oh, I could never handle a connection like that because it takes too long", that's not offensive. To each his own. You're just stating an opinion and I am free to say "oh, I hadn't thought of that" or "I can't afford non-stop". But if we're talking and he says he's getting a connection and you say "it would be better if you...." then you are crossing over into "not my business" territory. You are absolutely welcome to share an opinion, but the words "You should" or "it would be better" are not merely sharing an opinion. And that's where MY initial reaction came from. He's a grown adult and his wife wanted him to go the cheaper route. That was their decision to make without regard to what you would or would not have done. But that's one of my pet peeves and I am really sensitive to people telling me what to do. My mom was super controlling and I had to do everything her way, which didn't always work for me. I value being able to make my own decisions and it drives me nuts when someone starts telling me how I SHOULD have handled a situation. Trust me I know what works for me and I don't need anyone to second guess me or tell me I'm wrong.

When he discussed his plans to forgo the non stop route and chose the multi connection route to his country he had concerns he advised along with the stress he said by paying for many others in his family that he and his wife invited. His wife calls the shots in his family even though he is the main breadwinner. His reasoning which I get is he wanted to save money by paying for the long route but he had concerns he said to handle the long voyage multi connection with his 4 young kids and his wife. By the time they all got to Manila late in the evening after almost 2 days of flying , early the next morning they had to return to the international airport to board a small plane to fly to an island near the tourist island of Boracay , board a bus to take them to a ferry boat then the boat take them to their final destination. The several times he advised me clearly he was reaching out to someone to talk to . I'm sure many stories will be shared when he returns .

Tonic kinda went the way of the dodo bird. When I was a kid, everyone here called it tonic, but I think once I got into my late teens, it had switched over to soda. I can only assume it was from marketing pushing the soda, so it finally caught on. Even the signs in the stores all read "soda" and not tonic, after a certain point. Never could figure out why it started out being called tonic.
I would think it came about because before things like Coke or Pepsi or Dr. Pepper there was carbonated water or tonic water thought to be healthy I think. I know as late as 1968 I was in basic training with a guy from Boston that still called it tonic. But, hey, that's Boston.

I used to drink soda almost exclusively. A handful of years ago, I switched to just one a day. And now I rarely drink it, unless I'm at a restaurant. I've had the same four cans of pop in my fridge for months, and I haven't touched them. I pretty much stick to water, and I'll sometimes use the flavor packets to spice it up.

I want my money to last longer so I bring mini lemonade packets to the parks and ask the CM for a cup of ice water.

Hmmmm, I always thought it was because true tonic water contained quinine, and was used to prevent malaria by British soldiers fighting in India. (Quinine is very bitter though, which is probably why British soldiers started adding gin. 😂😂)

Today’s tonic water does not contain enough quinine to be considered a treatment to prevent malaria. Now it’s just a flavouring ingredient.

When my cousin was attending boarding school in Kenya, she used to drink a quinine concoction routinely. She said it was absolutely horrid. (Auntie contracted malaria half a dozen times in 40+ years. Apparently that wasn’t much fun either.)

Here’s the kayak scoop! Yes, we both fit. When the both of us are in it, Mike paddles from the rear. When I’m in it myself, it moves way faster - probably a “less weight” thing vs a “stronger stroke” thing.

We HATE the double sided kayak paddles. We’re just going to use canoe oars. I’ve got a blister on each ring finger top knuckle from hitting the canvas with each stroke.

Now to check Amazon for canoe paddles.

Big Brother Season 25 started tonight. I totally missed 24. This one looks fun. There’s a surprise Survivor connection @PUSH.

100 days, taking us into … counts on fingers … early November! Should be fun. There’s no one I’m rooting for to be the first to leave, and seven or eight I really like!

You had me until you added Splenda. Living in the south now, Sweet Tea is the thing, but I will never understand why everything must be sweetened. I used to drink unsweet Iced Tea all day long (homemade) but lately I have cut back to one glass a day. No particular reason other than I have gotten to lazy to make it and too cheap to buy it. Many days, none at all.

Years ago I had a Pepsi in my hand constantly. Got sick of that too. Now I occasionally have a Diet Dr. Pepper less than once a week. My biggest pet peeve when it comes to beverages would be flavored Ice Teas. Why? If I want something that taste like lemons, I'd have lemonade.

I've been waiting for it to start and of course it started on a night that B wasn't home so I have to wait until tonight to watch the first episode. It seems so weird that it is starting so late but I guess CBS wanted something for the Fall with the writers and actors strikes.

That was exactly their thinking. I think you’ll enjoy it.
