Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

That’s easier said than done having home insurance in hurricane prone states ( ie FL ). I was in FL during the freakish 3 hurricanes in 14 weeks 2004. A number of insurance companies went bankrupt after claim payouts and or cancelled policies later in the year to “ limit exposure “. When the insurance adjuster visits you weeks after the hurricane gives you dollar figure for pay out. Then the blood suckers repair companies advise 2x or 3x the price if you want your roof windows walls etc fixed in a timely manner. That’s just a few examples. If you report price gouging it is like talking to a brick wall.
Yes, that is a problem and only one of, what seems like, a thousands reasons to NOT live in Florida right now. I shudder when I think about how seriously I considered retiring there and so happy that fate put me here in NC instead.

All those weather warnings makes me wonder how we all survived before that technology existed. No matter how many warnings we get it doesn't really affect how we will react to the actual event. If there's 10 feet of snow, then we had to shovel 10 feet of snow or drive through it, if it was 10 inches the same ratio applied. We listened to the radio to find out what schools were closed or delayed in the morning of that day not days ahead of time only to have it swerve off in a different directions and not affect us at all.

I know that no one wants to hear about what it was like back in the day, but just the idea of snow removal was so primitive that now it is almost laughable. Winters were a little different because it usually remained below freezing for almost all of winter and that meant that snow banks at the end of the driveways were many times house gables high because it never melted. (Made a great thing to slide down). On the roads, (two lanes, one each direction) sometimes had snowdrifts that were higher than the cars and it took hours for the plows to arrive only to have to come back again in an hour or so to plow it again even if it wasn't snowing at the time. And people wonder why I left the north. I know many people were/are not able, for different reasons, to move like I was, but it is still a puzzle to me why those that can, don't.

My sister is one of those. She cannot bring herself to leave even though she really hates winter. She says that all her memories are there. I disagree, to me the memories were formed there, but the reality is that you bring your memories with you wherever you live. I left as soon as it was possible and all, but one of my family were gone, that is the biggest hold that people my age had. I waited until the time was right and made the plunge with a compromise that is south but still has definable seasons. No big deal, I feel that life is always a series of compromises anyway.

I like the fact that NC has regular state inspections on vehicles to ensure address issues. In SC, inspections don't exist.

It's a super exclusive one I found. I had to venture all the way to the second link when I Googled "baked potato recipe". 😂

I didn't add the onions or sour cream. Instead of frying bacon, I just put a full bag of bacon bits in.
This is pretty much the recipe I use, but I use more potatoes to make it thicker, and I can't get the green onions in small quantities, so I just chop what I have. I freeze it all the time.

With both boys in class next week there may be a few shoveling day for me. Maybe get some rum stocks to go with the wine stocks
