That's neat that you have a Lidl and Aldi . Both bare bones operations to buy items at lower prices.
Yes...Brick NJ has both Lidl and Aldi. That leads me to make a point re. that...but just a brief set up first: My daughter will live in Roanoke Virginia. Getting married in May.
It might be an emotional pull some day for us to retire down there...but we like Brick NJ's convenience.
In our town we have: Shop Rite, Trader Joes, Target, Walmart, Lidl and Aldi
*
We have : 2 McDonald's, 1 Burger King, 2 Wendy's, 1 Taco Bell, and White Castle
*
We have Outback Steakhouse, Longhorn Steakhouse, TGI Fridays, Applebees, Carraba's Italian Grill, Bonefish Grill and 3 different independent Jersey Diners, I-Hop and multiple different breakfast-brunch restaurants.
*
Brick NJ has public ocean beaches and has multiple entrances/exits to the Garden State Parkway.
NYC is 1.5 to our north and Philly is 1.5 to our west.
*
It'll take a really cute future grandchild to get us to move.
.............'cause we are so spoiled here.

I very rarely go to it either, but they have 3-4 products that aren’t sold elsewhere. If I happen to go to the commercial center up the street and feel like stopping, I’ll go in to get one of those things. If not, as I mentioned, the convenience of having a grocery store on the ground floor of my building trumps all 😉
Yeah, I'm only about a block away from our store, and it is next door to Aldi, and then there's a drugstore on the other side for things like shampoo, soap, over-the-counter meds, etc. But then, I've never been to an Aldi in the US, and from what I've seen online, Aldi here is MUCH smaller. There are only 3 or 4 aisles here, and those are like half the length of American grocery store aisles. I think that's a huge difference with European grocery stores, though. My kids were blown away the first time we went to an American grocery store...the sheer size is just MASSIVE, and you have an entire AISLE just for nothing but cereal, where here there are like 6 kinds of cereal and everyone calls cereal "Cornflakes" because they don't know any other kinds of cereal. People here don't want to be overwhelmed with choices, so we only have a fraction of the offerings of an American store. And Aldi has even fewer options than other stores. So really they just don't meet my shopping needs.

Just curious....do you buy groceries for a whole week, or do you go every day, or what? Because I grew up in Wyoming, where the grocery store was 40 miles away. We went once a month to get groceries and bought everything in bulk. We only bought the perishables in our town grocery store, because the prices were high there. So we'd buy 20 lbs of ground beef and break it up into one pound packages to put in the freezer, and we'd buy canned and frozen vegetables, etc. We had very little fresh produce. But we only had to go shopping once a month. But if you forgot something, you were in trouble. Over here, I just go every day and get what I need for that day. MAYBE I get stuff a day in advance if I'm making something like chili that takes hours. And I think most people here just go daily. So I was curious whether you do that, since it's right there, so convenient.

I am in foodie heaven when visiting the Northeast especially NYC and NJ, non winter time - real pizza, Taylor ham on a real bagel with the works including salt pepper and ketchup, hot dog heaven , ethnic Asian especially Chinese / Taiwan cuisine and many ethnic grocery stores , diners , delish Italian in small mom and pop locations etc. The largest Palestinian population is in NJ so I enjoy trying small business owned Middle Eastern cuisine. You won't miss the high property taxes NJ residents pay if you leave.

I can’t really shop for an entire week because I have the typical european apartment size fridge 😉. But I do at least try to have something for a few nights of dinners in case I don’t get out of the office in time or if I want to go to an aquagym class after work.

The Packers made it to the playoffs! Most of you probably don't follow the team very closely, but this was supposed to be a big rebuild years with a young team. To make the playoffs is about the best possible outcome. And our QB, Jordan Love, looks fantastic in his first year as a starter. I'm so happy for this team. Today was a good day.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
I saw this on FB. Most commenters pointed out that prior to the 8 x 5 = 40 hour work week, most workers laboured 10-16 hours/day 6 days/week.

Again, according to the people commenting (and the links they provided that I did not click) research indicates that productivity for most people wanes after 6 hours.

My prep is at the end of the day. I never get anything done. I end up talking to coworkers most of the time.

Yeah, we had problems with Christmas and New Years this year because our grocery stores are closed on the holidays, so we have to get stuff the day before. But the grocery store where my in-laws live is open on the holidays, and we were planning to spend Christmas at their house, so we had planned to go shopping when we got there and knew what they needed. (They are in poor health and can't do their own shopping) But they called on Christmas and weren't up for having us come because they couldn't even get out of bed that day. So we couldn't go there, but we also had no food bought and our store was closed. We ordered in that night instead. Then on New Years, we had everything planned and we had the groceries, but then my FIL ended up having to go to the hospital on New Years Day, and my MIL can't be left alone, so my husband had to go with his dad to the hospital so his brother could stay with their mom. So the planned meal went down the tubes and we had to just eat snacks because my husband is having to live with his mom right now while his dad is in the hospital. The meal we had planned is something my husband makes, so he wasn't home to do it. All in all, not the best holiday season for us.

Yeah, sucky holiday for sure. Hopefully next year is better for you. 🙏🏻

How is your FIL doing now?

Same. I gave the “love” for the deer and the Christmas card perfection of it, not for the actual white gunk itself.
I got a text from dh when he got to work with a whole lot of #$@$##@%$$$##@@ and a note to stay off the roads. He said the main one was decentish considering but the side roads were still bad. Thank goodness we're on the corner of a "main" road so it was only a few feet until he could see pavement.
Tomorrow we're getting 3 seasons beginning with more snow, ICE, then spring rain with flooding ending as ICE and snow. There's also a wind advisory      I'm keeping my fingers crossed power an interweb stays on

Round one of the caca weather here starts tomorrow - depending on the temperature. Round two at the end of the week into the weekend. And this could all change 30 times before then.

96 mm of precipitation in the next 24 hours.
