Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
The 25 cent cart system allows Aldi to keep prices lower than other stores , not needing to pay an Aldi staff member to pick up carts all day and discourage theft. Also more staff on duty increases the chance of a work related injury that comes out of company earnings to pay for medical items. Full stop. In some sections of FL, the local homeless help out and return the carts to the corrall, pocket the quarter.
Again … how do the carts get from the outdoor cart corral back into the store? An employee retrieves them from the corral, puts a strap around them, and then returns them to the front of the store. That’s how it’s done here. (We don’t have Aldi’s so I can’t speak to whether they have outdoor corrals.)

Yes but do you have to employ a staff member all day long to retrieve carts in the big parking lot? No. The Aldis I shop at when I buy a few items have 2 cashiers , no floor stockers and 1 mgr roaming the store and that's in a busy time of day with the cashier lines about 15-20 people deep. Some can't understand Aldi is a low cost leader in many ways to keep prices down. One of the several reasons is payroll. Our Aldis have a corral which is outside the front door where customers get their carts and and return them or the homeless help and return them eventually return it to collect back their quarter. At the end of the day an Aldi staff member brings the carts inside.

Mike and I and Daisy are spending a night at the apartment, for the very first time.

Brand new mattress + brand new pillows + brand new location = a raging case of “hotel headache”. IYKYK

Still no couch, so in addition to the chaise lounge I stole from home, I brought out the flip out foam mattress that we bought for the trailer but never used.

Apparently it’s quite comfortable.

Pizza on the first night in your new digs is an excellent choice! (I've ordered that, myself, a few times in the past. :hungry:)

By the way, your "apt." looks very spacious -- much larger than most apts. I've seen. You selected a nice place. :) I know that in time, your interior design magic wand will have "Jennifer-ized" it, into a living space out of House Beautiful. 👍

I remember shopping at Food Lion, Winn Dixie when living in NC back in the day . A cheaper option and unique Southern specialities in the South in smaller towns and some cities is Piggly Wiggly. Customers love shopping at the Pig. Good selection and cheaper prices. For higher priced goods others went to Kroger in NC . All Food Lion locations in FL closed approx 10 years ago.
I don't know about the rest of NC but about 5 years ago Kroger closed all their stores in the Raleigh area.

They started in Germany and then expanded to other European countries, and using a coin or token to unlock the cart is very common here (as someone mentioned, it is to discourage theft) so for Aldi it is "normal business practice". From what I have understood, their business model is "no frills" so that they can offer lower prices than the regional or national chains. If I have reason go up the street to the shopping center I will go into Aldi for a couple of products that are not sold in other grocery stores here, but as there is a grocery store on the ground floor of my apartment building, I usually choose convenience.
I rarely shop at Aldi. They just don't have a lot of the products I use, so I'd have to go to a different store anyway, and if I'm already going to a different store, I'll just get everything there and not have to store hop. The Aldi is right next door to the big chain grocery store, so I just go to the big chain store. And for some reason, the people who work at Aldi are always less than friendly.

I very rarely go to it either, but they have 3-4 products that aren’t sold elsewhere. If I happen to go to the commercial center up the street and feel like stopping, I’ll go in to get one of those things. If not, as I mentioned, the convenience of having a grocery store on the ground floor of my building trumps all 😉

I go to Lidl because they have low prices for the basics: Milk, Orange Juice, Cereal, Laundry Detergent.
Brick NJ's Lidl is a 3 minute drive from my school so it is additionally convenient for me to stop there after my teaching day is over.
My wife DOES stop at ALDI now and then because she passes an Aldi on the way home from her job.
She has the same reason as me... Aldi has low prices for weekly things that we always purchase.

That's neat that you have a Lidl and Aldi . Both bare bones operations to buy items at lower prices.
