Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

I have yet to listen to any Christmas music this year (unless you count watching a movie. The songs in Love Actually) but usually Christmas songs are horrible.

Christmas was better when I was younger. At least you didn't have 50,000 people asking you what you wanted for Christmas and for you to do the same.

Nope . Mariah curry still holds the worst song in existence in this household.
I think it is a little to syrupy to really affect me. Momma looked healthier then me. I'm afraid I lost the Christmas spirit long ago. I still participate and do what is necessary to make it good for my family, but my heart is not in it. I don't decorate anymore and if I do it is just the small lighted Santa that my parents bought for me for my first Christmas. And yes, there was electricity back then,. It still works and I don't remember ever changing the light bulb inside, but I must have. No original would have lasted 75 years.

I'm afraid that the people that are all sentimental about it, are like preaching to the choir. It never reaches the evil and if it did they would just laugh and walk away. Sad, but my years have dulled my faith that things would get better due to year after year of disappointment.

I like that you display your small lighted Santa -- it's a nostalgia item that you've kept since your parents gave it to you, many Christmases ago. Hey, less is more at times, and a simple item may be all that's necessary for a decoration.

@Tiggerish , I do not think that you participate in Tripadvisor, but this thread I started there might interest you.
Would you open this link and then tell me your feelings on the matter here on this Bob S thread?
Hoping this finds you well.

I am.honestly not sure how I feel.about that.

I'm sure I could easily be annoyed by it (cultural appropriation, and all that) or I could see it as a derivative work (I've spent too much time with intellectual property lawyers).

If I come to a.decision on it, I will.make sure you are the first to know. 😎

I have a funny story about this song that I will share tomorrow/later today. But first … sleep time.

Happy Monday.
They made a movie based on the song that came out in 2002, but the song had come out a year or two before. I’d unfortunately heard it a zillion times, so I knew the lyrics well.

I’d stopped in to see my mom on my way home from work one night, and she was up in her room watching a movie. I went up to lie on the waterbed beside her (man, I loved their waterbed!) and caught the last 20 minutes of some really shmaltzy Christmas movie.

It didn’t take long to realize it was a movie based on the song. As the movie was ending, and my mom was bawling, I said that the movie was so sappy and clichéd it could almost be a poem or a song or something.

And then in a pensive stance, as if I were making up the words as I went, I start ad-libbing the lyrics as the music only plays over the credits.

“Sir I want to buy these shoes for my Mama please.
It’s Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size.
Could you hurry, sir, daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if mama meets Jesus tonight.”

My mom was very impressed. You should have seen the look on her face. I mean, she thought I was BRILLIANT!

And then the music swelled as it led into the chorus, now with the lyrics … mere seconds after I had just made up my lovely song.

At the end, she looked me dead in the eye, and said, “You are such a (slightly bad word)”, and I killed myself laughing.

I stayed for tea.

Canadians live for their “double digits” (also their double doubles, but that’s another thing altogether), and their is nary a one in sight.

What a miserable day.

Snow is nothing more than fluffy ice. I do not find either one an enjoyable experience.
Snow is lovely at night after everyone is safely home from work, tucked in for the evening … slowly drifting down from the sky, blanketing the brown grass, pillowing the trees’ sad naked branches, muffling the cacophony from the streets and traffic below.

The next morning, it just plain old sucks.

I know you live on a mountain, but i.just don't understand how you.could be so far south of.me and experiencing so much more.extreme weather.

I had some.icy rain while.driving home.
It's a not so lovely combination of altitude and prevailing winds, being farther west.:( You benefit from being both lower in elevation and being farther east/closer to the coast where the Gulf Stream has a slight warming effect.
The good news is it has warmed enough to turn to rain and the carp has washed away:joyfull:
