Our school district use to pool with another district to higher a keynote/motivational speaker for our first couple days of in-service. I'm glad they don't do that anymore. The speakers we all quite good, but most of us in our heads were making lists of all the things we wanted to get done to start off the year. I wouldn't mind a speaker coming in mid-year, we all need a little pump up at that time.
I appreciate information we actually need at the start of the year. Guest speakers can be good, but they aren't what I need to start the year. This year's inservice days were the best I've had. I got a lot of good information. It also helps that I'm really happy with our new principal, reading specialist, and math coach. I've never worked with a good principal or good reading specialist, and it really makes a world of difference.

That makes sense.
Today's key note speaker was our district's Teacher of the Year.
She had an amazingly interesting personal story.
I'll give you and @PUSH a BRIEF summary on a PM.

18 years old and tearing up her competition in the US Open.
Yet she is such a likable person ;)

This morning I had my students log in to their Chromebooks for the first time. My three new students didn't have their usernames and passwords working, so I had to send in a help ticket for that. As that was happening the bulb in my projector burnt out, so I couldn't use my Smart Board all morning. So it was a wing it type of morning because literally all of my plans revolved around Chromebooks and/or a Smart Board. Luckily I have a good group of kids this year who were extremely patient and made my life a lot easier.

Glad to hear you have a good group of kids this year.
Even so, I hope tomorrow is glitch free for you.

Wow, sounds like it could have been a very stressful morning! Is everything fixed now?

Yikes. Sorry you had to deal with all that. Yet, you're a resourceful type of person, and I'm not surprised that you found whatever workarounds you needed, to (temporarily) get through. When I was in elementary school, the teachers used a slate blackboard and chalk. Worked fine from day 1 -- no issues for them! ;)

There must be a way to do it though because I don't recall any Chromebooks or Smart Boards when I went to shcool and look how well edumacated I are having.

Was today better?
Today for me was the first day of school with kids in the building.
I like that a whole lot better than the professionals only preparation sessions!

Yep, they fixed everything after lunch. Our secretary also called me during all the issues and told me I forgot to do my lunch count. I told him sorry and that it's been a morning. So he told me today I sounded like I was having some issues on that phone call. 😂

That'd be doable if I hadn't done all of my plans based on having the technology available. I also have a student who is legally blind, so he needs everything blown up on the Smart Board. So I couldn't do much without having him miss out. But I'm happy it all got fixed!

Today was my day for tech issues in the classroom. My computer was having strange issue so sometimes I would click on something and it might open or not. The connection to the printer was sometimes there and sometimes not. We have a couple students in quarantine so I had to break out the camera again and teach a couple classes on Zoom & with in class students too. Students had to use a new math and english program too, luckily that worked all okay on their end.

We had our first positive case of the year in our school today. Apparently a good chunk of the middle school is quarantined because they're close contacts, too.

Boy, sounds like a great start to the school year for everyone! I got a message from my husband this morning that his coworker's wife and daughter tested positive and the coworker has been coming to work every day and went to the company BBQ last night, despite the fact that they didn't have the results for his wife and kid yet. He didn't have symptoms, so he didn't get tested, but came to work. So now he is getting tested, but if he has it, he's already brought it to everyone at work. We're vaccinated, and it sounds like everyone at DH's work is, too, so hopefully no one will get it, but it makes me angry that he knew there was a possibility that his family had it....why in the world did he go to work and to the BBQ??
